Lunch date.

This week has dragged!  The cold probably hasn’t helped but I sure am happy to get to Friday.  The added bonus today is that MM got to take some time off too.  Of course his idea of a fun morning is shopping – NOT – but I persuaded him to nip down to Atlantic Station with me to the local West Elm to look at vanities/dressing tables.

For nearly 20 years I have been in search of the most perfect dressing table.  I see it in my head but cannot find it anywhere.  I want a modern design, clean lines, drawers for storage – but it must also allow for a chair to be pulled up like a desk.  Now all the vanities I can find here are very traditional and ornate, with large overwhelming fixed mirrors.  Surely us contemporary girls need somewhere to apply our make-up too?  I thought, online, I had found the perfect answer – the mirrored Parsons desk from West Elm.  Unfortunately, having seen it in real life, $599 is ridiculously expensive for this piece.  I don’t mind paying $600 for the right dresser but not for something that looks and feels cheap:(  So on we go, hunting for my perfect dresser.  Maybe I need to just get a carpenter out to create my vision?

The Parsons desk, West Elm:

We have just got back from lunch at Houston’s – my new favorite lunch spot.  It’s lovely and cosy and dark…perfect for a Fall lunch.  Two crab cakes and a glass of suavignon blanc later I am feeling remarkably chipper.  As I was having ‘a day out’ I decided to make a bit of an effort clothes wise.  I chose the Zara grey harem pants, Zara animal print t-shirt (no longer online), Sam Edelman Louie boots in rose taupe and finally the Boden blossom tipped blazer (some sizes left in clearance) from SS 2012.  My favorite combination of colors – grey and pink – and yes I LOVE harem trousers right now – so comfy:)

  1. Love West Elm and their modern sensibilities. I took a year to find bedside tables (needed round white and with drawers) but when I found them (Roche Bobois) snapped them up even though there were a ridiculous price. Hopefully I won’t have to buy them again in my lifetimes…. Loving your pink jacket with the pleated bottle (or arm? ) green trou, great combo

    • Love Roche Bobois – I have searched high and low for this damn vanity – it must have drawers for the ridiculous number of lotions and potions I have…will keep searching. Most vanities I see don’t have the gap for the chair – they’re more like a dresser/chest of drawers. Might have to build one out of drift wood:) The trousers are a grey/khaki color I think? More grey when worn with grey and more green when worn with green! x

  2. My mum used to have a dressing table like you describe but you just don’t seem to find them anymore …perhaps you’ve found a gap in the market! …hire that carpenter! 🙂

    • I think I have definitely found a gap in the market as I can’t find a contemporary style anywhere! I’m planning to do a sketch and give it to a carpenter to price – that way I can match the color to my existing furniture too:)

  3. I love harem pants but they don’t love me!

Just wondering – have you ever counted how many pairs of boots you have? I’m just curious. A different pair for every day of the month? I wish I did. Severe boot envy.

    • I’m still not convinced of them on me either – but they make a nice change from skinnies and they are super comfy…as for the boots it’s a tad sad how many I own given I live in such a warm climate most of the year…I have always loved boots – knee highs and ankle boots. When I moved here I discovered Fryes and you can see here my shameful collection – I did just sell a pair though that didn’t get worn often. (ssshhhhhhh I just ordered the Dickers too)….

    • You are too kind! So glad you like reading the posts! I protect most of my boots with Kiwi waterproof spray – I don’t think I’d use polish on the rose taupe boots as the leather is more like nubuck…thanks for the comment:)

  5. I know what you mean about trying to find a perfect piece of furniture, we have been searching for the perfect coffee table/trunk for about 2 years to no avail! Love the outfit too, the trousers are a great style and perfect with the blazer, a great mix of looks. Love the boots tooxx

    • Thanks for stopping by Charlotte!! When I lived in the UK I never had money for furniture so it wasn’t a problem:) You have made me think about trying an antique market though for something mid-century!

I love hearing your thoughts and I will reply as soon as I can if you have a specific question! If you prefer email you can contact me at Thanks for taking the time to comment xx
