The leather jacket – but not a black one in sight!

I adore a leather jacket – I always have – and this season there is an abundance of fabulously colored jackets to try instead of the tried and tested black leather jacket.

Let’s begin with top dollar on the high street – and some of the best leather jackets out there in my opinion – AllSaints.

The Balfern jacket is a regular style – a real classic. There was a baby pink available in the leather version which may still be available in stores but has sold out online. However, my favorite on me is the coral.

AllSaints Balfern leather jacket coral

The sky blue is really pretty – more of an egg shell blue.

Then there is suede – personally I prefer leather to avoid greasy finger marks – but this plait Balfern in clay pink is beautiful. It also comes in lemon yellow and luna blue here.

TheOutnet.com is always a great place to look for leather jackets. A couple of years ago I scored a gorgeously soft Maje jacket in a great orangey red. This Isabel Marant jacket in claret is 51% discounted.

Isabel Marant Kheo leather jacket

This beautiful yellow jacket from IRO is 65% off.

Another amazing jacket from Isabel Marant at 68% off!

My favorite leathers this season are from Mango. They are always well priced, good leather and fit well. I actually just ordered this beautiful yellow leather jacket – I love the soft color with my coloring as opposed to some of the really vivid yellows. My skin is yellow enough thanks! I also love the plain neckline – most of my other leathers have a collar.

Mango yellow leather jacket

This red leather is fabulous – a really great price too.

Mango red leather jacket

I am super tempted by this blue jacket. I have a really deep indigo blue leather jacket from AllSaints but I really like this more summery blue here. I love the buckle detailing too.

Mango blue leather jacket

Finally green – just the perfect green for me too – a deep forest green.

Mango green leather jacket

TopShop have a great vivid red suede jacket that will add instant cool factor to any outfit.

TopShop red suede jacket

Of course whenever you’re in doubt of where to find something ASOS is the place to head! This beautiful pink suede is available in all sizes and reduced by $200!

ASOS pink suede jacket

This one is so similar to the AllSaints jacket – well except for the pice tag – this is $500 cheaper!

There is of course a tremendous selection of studded and embroidered jackets out there right now – I’m afraid they just don’t appeal to me and I think they will date quickly. I like my classic leather jackets but I really don’t mind what color they are. There simply is nothing better to throw over a dress or jeans all year round.

My FIL arrived last night so we have a fun week ahead. It’s his birthday on Sunday so hopefully we will indulge in a good meal out once all our cheer competition commitments are over! It’s also my nephew’s birthday tomorrow so HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACK!

Today I’m in one of my favorite jacket and top combos – and I may have new sneakers on ūüėČ

The other day Poppy and I went for a browse in her favorite store – H&M. The neon shoe thing was complete coincidence I assure you!

A second look.

I am currently trying to save for some big trips in the summer. I’m off back to the UK in May and then Turkey again for the month of July. My husband has actually enforced a spending ban…that doesn’t stop me from browsing and here are a few things I’ve taken a second look at this week.

These trousers are chavtastic (US readers can refer here!). They are SO me РAdidas, drop crotch, and comfy!

Adidas drop crotch trousers

I’ve always loved drop waist dresses – super easy to throw on and wear in the heat here (though the heat is severely lacking right now!). These are perfect and gingham is everywhere this season.

I love this washed black denim dress.

Denim drop waist dress

This gingham dress is a super price.

gingham drop waist dress

H&M are on fire again this season and I’ve tried on all of these bar the shoes (shhh I’ve ordered them – don’t tell him!)

These jeans – unusually for H&M – fit on the large side and they are super stretchy. So comfortable and again a fabulous price. If I didn’t already have 100s of jeans they’d be mine.

I love this pink denim jacket – pink and khaki are two colors that are everywhere this Spring.

H&M pink denim jacket

This pink gingham off the shoulder top is an absolute bargain and will look adorable with denim shorts and white Superga.

H&M pink gingham off the shoulder top

Here are the shoes – just such a pretty shade and a great shaped toe. I can’t wait to receive them – be quick as sizes are selling out fast! They are also available in black suede.

H&M pink leather ballet flats

Continuing from my sneaker obsession the other day Рthese were released here on Wednesday. The leather Nike Jewell LX. Just divine Рso sleek and perfect lifestyle wear Рthe tortoiseshell trim is gorgeous. They also come in white and black.

Leather Nike Air Max Jewell LX

Finally I can honestly say I’ve looked at these probably 100x in just the past day. I cannot for the life of me find them yet in the USA which baffles me as Nike is a US company! Anyway please meet the pearl pink Nike Jewell premium. They are a delicate ballet slipper pink with gold trim. If you’re in the EU you can get them here now.

Just looking above at what has caught my eye there are some great combinations for spring with these items alone! What are you hovering over the order button for right now?

Now a couple of outfits from the week. On Tuesday evening we went to see Bryan Ferry. OMG it was one of the BEST GIGS I have ever been to. At 72 he is as suave, sophisticated and charismatic as ever and he owned the stage. He included mainly Roxy Music hits in his set list – Slave to Love, Avalon, More Than This and Virginia Plain to mention a few. As soon as I heard his voice the hairs on my neck stood on end and I had shivers – the venue was small and intimate and I felt so privileged to be there. His band were also incredible – just a wonderful, wonderful night.

I had to get wrapped up as it was the coldest evening of the year!

Jeans – H&M // Sneakers – Golden Goose // Coat – Zara (old) // Scarf – Zara (old)

On Thursday I had my haircut – I always feel 1000x better after a good cut – I just wish it didn’t have to be every 5 weeks!

Sneakers – Nike Air Max // Jeans – Zara (old) // T-shirt – Mango // Jacket – Mango (old) // Bag – Stella McCartney (old)

Yesterday the kids were off school with a teacher work day. Poppy headed off on a sleepover so Hugh and I went off to see Kong, Skull Island. It was a great movie – enjoyed by both of us for different reasons. Nothing to do with Tom Hiddleston…at all…

My Black Friday List

I have a definitive list of items I want to buy on Friday. I’ve already made a couple of purchases from H&M as they have had some codes available since the weekend – but here is my list so far. I’ll of course publish a list of codes on Friday for you all!

So with H&M they have various deals each day this week but there is also a 20% off code with free shipping – 2806.

I can’t wait to try these imitation leather trousers – especially the navy pair.

H&M imitation leather trousers H&M imitation black leather pants

There is definitely a theme here. These coated leggings in khaki are great and such a fabulous color. They are also available in black.

H&M khaki coated treggings

Moving on to COS – I am absolutely smitten with these drop crotch trousers. I am praying that they drop below the $125 price.

COS drop crotch trousers

Another pair of drop crotch trousers – and to be fair it’s been a while since I’ve bought any harem trousers though my love for them runs deep. These sequin trousers could easily be worn year round with a t-shirt and denim jacket.

Zara sequin drop crotch trousers

It’s been a while since I had a good trawl through ASOS and the other evening I was stopped in my tracks by this skirt. It’s beautiful, though I’m not sure how it will work on my thick waist. I’m willing to give it a go though if only because it’s camo!

ASOS camo pleat skirt

These Pull & Bear velvet trousers are also in my cart waiting for Friday. Just perfect paired with sneakers and a graphic t-shirt.

Pull & Bear velvet trousers

Finally a little indulgence – definitely an investment. There are very few sizes left around the internet but Selfridges have the best price at the moment – here’s hoping they have Black Friday deals too. The Stella McCartney Elyse in rose gold.¬†European brands are SO much cheaper in the UK stores than here in the US – compare $670 with $1,100!

Stella McCartney Elyse

So what’s on your list? High street brands? A designer splurge? Remember to check back later in the week once I have access to all the appropriate codes!

Big knits

I love nothing more (OK, maybe boots) than a big chunky knit. Again it’s probably genetics – growing up in the North West of the UK and then 5 years in St. Andrews meant they were a required staple in the closet. You could NEVER have enough big cardigans or chunky sweaters. They aren’t needed quite so much in the balmy climate of Atlanta, but that doesn’t stop me investing in a 3-4 new ones each November. Needless to say I have way more chunky knits than a girl in Atlanta really needs. Is it going to stop me? Of course not! That vacation to the North Pole may happen one year, not to mention that Arctic plunge that seems to happen earlier each year, even if it does only last a week or so!

With the above images from Pinterest as inspiration here are some of my favorites available this season.

This oversized cardigan from ASOS is a great shape and price.

I love this neutral color block cardigan – it’s even blocked on the inside too – really different yet easy to wear.

asos-colorblock-cardigan

This is a perfect slouchy cardigan – equally easy to wear slobbing on the sofa or out in the pub.

Absolutely love the length of this New Look ribbed cardigan.

H&M is always a favorite of mine for great knits at a great price. They do oversize very well too.

This is the dress I am wearing below – I’ve worn it all day and it is SO comfortable and soft. I have a medium so it is pretty generous. Love this light grey color but the darker version is fabulous too for wearing with opaque tights.

knittted-dress-hm

I just love this sweater. The green is my kind of green – in fact I got a mohair cardigan in this color last year which I must dig out.

green-mohair

This deep green is one of my favorite winter colors. Not in your face but definitely some color that can be worn easily with black or grey denim. The sweater is also available in 3 other colors – it’s a great winter staple.

oversize-green-mohair

This long sweater can probably be worn as a dress by some of you but I really love the idea of it over distressed denim skinnies.

I love grey and I love a polo neck, so yes I kinda like this one a lot. It’s also available in blue and black.

ribbed-turtleneck

I love the neckline on this sweater – a great price too at $34.99 and it is available in 4 colors.

& Other Stories is another great source of sweaters – H&M’s more grown up sibling. Slightly pricier but fabulous quality.

This red berry sweater is the one I am wearing below. It is also available in the grey shown. Use FRIENDS in the USA for a 10% discount on a new account. I have the medium – it is hugely oversized – the large drowned me. I can’t wait to wear mine with pleather skinnies.

I have this green cardigan too. I love the belt – it gives great shape – but it looks equally good unfastened. Perfect over a grey t-shirt with black skinny jeans.

screen-shot-2016-11-12-at-4-00-10-pm

This oversized, sparkle sweater is on my list. I love it – simple, but a little special.

Err this might me on my list too – I love the graduated sparkle.

& Other stories metallic mohair sweater

I have this one – it’s shorter than others so I opted for a large. A great knit in a great pattern.

& Other Stories Jacquard sweater

This cardigan is available in grey and 3 other colors which are sold out here online. The perfect length.

The shape of this wool blend cardigan is perfect – again great for both in the house and off out down the pub on a cold night!

My Husband is currently in London and has texted me numerous times complaining about the BITTER cold. I am SO jealous – I can’t wait to actually NEED to wear a big jumper – it’s still loitering in the low 60s here but I’m going for it nonetheless! And here just to prove I really can’t wait to get the big knits out, here are my outfits over the past 3 days!

Countdown to Turkey!

It’s all a bit crazy here! Visas are sorted, passports are found¬†and bags are out ready to be packed! I spent bloody hours figuring out movies for the kids yesterday and making sure they were all synced on iPads for the plane. I guarantee we will get on the flight and they won’t play or will have disappeared – it always happens no matter how often I check. Anyhow hopefully they’ll be out like a light as soon as they are settled in their seats as it’s a late flight. I’ll of course be enjoying all the services offered!

The new normal

My mum and dad left for home yesterday after a lovely visit. It was so nice to have them here and show them some of our regular haunts. We ate out nearly everyday, which got me thinking about my weight. I exercise almost daily, running at least 3 miles with some weights thrown in here and there. I also plank every day with Poppy! However, the scales never budge as I still indulge in my food and wine – maybe even justifying it after a long run.

Long term readers will know that I lost about 40lbs probably about 5-6 years ago now using Jenny Craig. As successful as Jenny was I am loathed to use them again as I really don’t like the idea of frozen, processed food 3 times a day. So after hearing about the success that friends in the UK have had with Slimming World – I have signed up to give this a try! It makes sense counting syns and optimizing your food with ‘good’ food, so we’ll see how it goes! Today is my first day. If any of you have tried Slimming World before I’d love to know your thoughts!

After Memorial Day we now have a new normal routine – the kids are at camp in the morning while I work, we then head to the pool and then I work out in the evening! It seems I have more to fit in a day than when they are at school! Plus we only have 4 weeks till Turkey wooo hooo!

Here’s today’s¬†comfy outfit for the heat and the first day back in the office for a while!

Harem pants

I’ve never made a secret of my love for harem pants. They are so comfortable, and these days there are so many options available that if a full on drop crotch isn’t for you then you can opt for a smarter jogging pant. I’m wearing mine today as it is going to be in the 80’s and their fluidity keeps me cool all day. In fact they are the first thing I pack for vacations as they are perfect for traveling in too. You can then dress them up for evening wear with a lovely top and even a light jacket. The footwear options are endless – sneakers, sandals and even heels all look great with them.

The pair I am wearing today is from ASOS Рjust $28! They have an elastic waist that can be folded over to be worn lower on the hips if needed.

I am waiting to take receipt of these tomorrow – a little lower crotch which I love..

Etsy is¬†a fabulous source for harem pants. I’ve had some great purchases in the past and these caught my eye.

H&M offer some wonderful choices as well. These are similar to the ASOS pair I’m wearing – less drop crotch, more smart jogger.

H&M1

I have this pair of joggers – and they are definitely joggers so better worn with sneakers but I adore the drop crotch and the fabric is great! Perfect paired with a simple white tee and leather jacket.

Finally if you are in the UK I hear great things about the Hush harems. These have a fold over waistband and they look so comfortable. They are available in black. olive, navy, charcoal and blue. They will deliver to the US for £12 but it is not DPD, so make sure you know what customs will charge you for your order.

The pinstripe blazer

I absolutely love the warmer weather. It means the coats can be replaced with a blazer. A blazer can transform an entire outfit. If you pick one that fits well they are beautifully flattering. I find they give me shape by enhancing my shoulders and giving me a waist. I stand taller when I wear a blazer – and you can’t beat a striking¬†pinstripe blazer when you need that extra pizzazz.

I own the first two here from Mango. They are amazing quality and in the sale. I am wearing the navy today – and it’s what I would call chalkstripe rather than pinstripe, and it has a pop up grey felt collar. It’s now just $47.99.

Mango pinstripe jacket

The grey is lovely – I don’t normally go for double breasted but I love wearing this one with black or grey jeans and this is now just $39.99.

I’m probably going to order this off-white jacket¬†as it is perfect with blue jeans for spring and just $39.99 – reduced by 60%.

This grey blazer is reduced to $128 from $321 on Asos and I love the darker grey.

This is a beautiful alternative to a blazer from TopShop – I think this would look amazing with leather leggings.

Another from TopShop but I can only see it on the Nordstrom website here. I love the long lapels on it.

Now for the pricier versions. A blazer is always worth the investment for a fabulous cut and gorgeous fabric. This is TopShop Unique and lighter weight for the summer.

Don’t shop in the US right now if you’re traveling to Europe!

A while ago I wrote a post that had actually been requested by quite a few readers – What to buy in the UK vs. he USA. Sitting on the loooonnnngg flight home yesterday I thought it was time to update you all in case you are planning a trip from one side of the Atlantic to the other.

I think there is still a common misconception that the USA is much cheaper than the UK. Right now it isn’t! A pound will currently only buy approx. 1.4 dollars. Two years ago it would buy about 1.75, and even last year it was around 1.6. When you remember to add the approx. 8% sales tax to the US sticker prices, on top of the current exchange rate, it means that several, in fact many items are much cheaper in the UK!

Take for example my incredibly indulgent purchase in Selfridges on Friday. A Givenchy Pandora bag. In the US it retails for $1950 + 8% sales tax. In the UK it is £1155 Рapprox. $1625 Рsignificantly cheaper!

Cosmetics are also cheaper Рadmittedly many of they high street brands that I buy are British Рsuch as Nip + Fab and Soap and Glory. As Boots always seem to do a 3 for 2 deal or some sort of discounting make sure you stock up there and not here in the USA. Having said that it is still the case that many high end cosmetics are cheaper in the US Рa Mac lipstick is $16 here and at least £16 in the UK.

High street brands are much cheaper in the UK. A pair of jeans cost me £29.99 in Zara Рthe same pair here is $49.99 + the sales tax (sales tax varies state to state, and even county to county here).

So while there is so much uncertainty about the UK Brexit I would encourage you to do more sight seeing than shopping on your trip to NYC! Your pounds aren’t going to buy you many dollars!

I’m back in the office today – albeit very jet lagged. After a 9 hour flight yesterday (highly recommend all 3 films I watched – The Big Short, Black Mass and Carol) I went straight to the polling station to cast my vote. I still get tremendously excited about the privilege of voting with my new citizenship. My lovely Husband treated me to a huge Thai takeaway and I hugged my children tightly. It’s lovely to go away, but it’s really lovely to come home, especially when the sun is shining and the blossom is blooming!
