Memorial weekend outfits!

I hope you are all having a fabulous weekend! It’s a Bank Holiday in the UK and Memorial weekend here. The kids have finished school and we’ve been at the pool most mornings. We watched and enjoyed the Eurovision even though my kids are totally confused by it – and the atlas will be coming out later so they can fully understand why the Georgia that entered is not our Georgia!

We’re about to go for Mexican and it will be my first true test of not drinking. I’ve made a decision that I am going to abstain and I’m really happy about it, but Mexican with no margarita will be odd to say the least – well the first time anyway ūüėČ Not sure how long it will last – maybe forever, maybe a year, maybe a month – who knows but I feel the benefits already. It really wasn’t doing anything for my state of mind or waistline.

On Wednesday night I was out on a girls night out and had a lovely time but stayed out way too late!

Also I ended up asking for a photo with Dennis Shroder who was enjoying a quiet moment with a hookah pipe outside a bar. Poor guy – a) I didn’t know who he was at first – but he was obviously a famous dude given the poss√© of chicks and guys around him, and b) the Hawks had just lost so he probably really did just want to be alone!

On Thursday my lovely¬†husband took me out for lunch to celebrate the last week of school – long lunches are a thing of the past when the kids are at home – it’ll be picnics at the pool instead!

Zara topTop – Zara // Jeans – Diesel Fayza (massively discounted here) // Booties – Nine West Glynn (yes I have multiple colors – so easy to walk in even with a 3″ heel!)

Finally today and I’m just about to walk out the door for enchiladas – which I’ve sort of earned after a jog with the dogs!

Shorts Clogs – Lotta // Shorts – J.Crew (30% off with code WEEKEND – these are a 29″ and they are so comfy with lots of stretch) // Tunic – J.Crew (on sale plus an extra 30% off with code WEEKEND)

Enjoy the long weekend!!

Jeans and t-shirts

Always a reliable combination at this time of year when it can go from the 80s to low 60s and back, even within a day here! I’m not sure how many pairs of jeans I own these days but I have definitely put my skinnies aside in favor of boyfriend jeans and ankle length crops. Skinnies are much easier to wear with ankle boots in the winter, but now spring is here I love showing a bit of ankle!

Today I am wearing J.Crew boyfriend jeans – they are super soft and comfortable for re-entry after spring break!

A night out, a day off and off out shopping

It’s MLK Day here on Monday so we have a lovely long weekend. I wasn’t looking forward to it earlier in the week as it was so cold and lashing it down with freezing rain. Now though I am thrilled as the skies are blue, the sun is shining and my windows are open. Spring is taunting us.

On Thursday night I had a lovely dinner with an old friend from my corporate days. It was so much fun to catch up especially as she has got married and is now in the process of changing jobs – my stories felt comparatively dull!

Yesterday was my day off and after completing another grueling work out (I will be 20lbs lighter by the summer!) I was lucky enough to have the afternoon with my Husband chatting and walking the dogs in the sunshine.

Today I took Poppy to the mall. It’s always so much fun to treat her after a good week at school and right now her favorite store is The Body Shop and who am I to discourage cleanliness and personal grooming!?

After hitting The Body Shop, where of course we had to buy the limited edition¬†Smoky Poppy product line, we headed to Sephora where I bought the travel sized Hourglass Veil Primer to try. I’ve heard amazing things about this stuff. Lets see if it delivers.

Tomorrow is my Blogversary – 3 whole years! I still love this little creative outlet as much as ever and my world would be empty without all the amazing friends I have met through it. What will year 4 bring?

Kool and the Gang

It’s 1.47am here and I am listening to BBC Radio 2 online. ¬†Can you believe they just played Kool and the Gang “Joanna” – oh yes it is a sign…I’m tired, a little tipsy and a lot happy. ¬†After an amazing dinner I am off to bed ready to begin my 44th year on Sunday!

Today started with a great hot yoga session, followed by an indulgent lunch out on my own, a scary storm, and then dinner at our favorite special restaurant.

You can’t beat a great dress.

Dresses have been¬†my go to item in the summer – they are so easy to throw on and dress up or down. ¬†This season I have been obsessed with scuba material dresses – they hang so well, don’t crease, and I find them really comfortable to wear. ¬†My favorites have been from River Island via ASOS. ¬†This coral reptile print dress is really fun and I am wearing a UK size 12 which fits perfectly. ¬†The stretch in the material means it’s great across my bust without being too wide at the hips. ¬†Oh and did I mention it’s currently on sale ūüôā

Back to school.

Off they headed this morning with a skip and a jump to the bus stop.  It never ceases to amaze me how they both adapt to school so quickly.  Maybe the new alarm clocks helped Рbut there was no arguing, no complaining and no whining.  They were ready after 8 weeks off!  So I now have a 3rd grader and a 1st grader Рhow did that happen?

Due to heading back to school today we decided to have a fairly lazy weekend around the house. ¬†On Friday I invited some of our fabulous neighbors over with their kids, for wine and nibbles. ¬†It was great fun – kids really are fabulous resources for meeting new people. ¬†The rest of the weekend was spent eating pizza and watching movies, with a few “Orange is the New Black” thrown in for me, once the kids were in bed of course! ¬†It was perfect – the kind of weekend that required no make-up and a comfy dress.

After packing the kids off to school I headed back to the office – routines are lovely.

Just about over the jetlag…

The laundry is done, we’ve caught up on sleep, I’ve worked out and had a good sweat, drank copious amounts of tea, and I can safely say I am starting to feel human again. ¬†2 days of travel and gaining 6 hours completely knocked me sideways! ¬†The kids always cope admirably and they were up with the sun on Monday morning ready for their last day of camp before school starts next week!

I really need to get better at packing – I took way too many clothes again – but I find it so challenging when you are traveling for 5 weeks, in two different climates, with little idea about what you might end up doing from one day to the next!

Anyway it is fabulous to be back home after a great break Рsleeping in my own bed and showering in my own shower.  Everything works how it is supposed to, and I know where everything is once again!

As for what to wear with jetlag it has to be comfort that wins every time!

Finds of the week!

Being back on wifi has it’s pros and cons. ¬†Under both pros and cons lies sale shopping – it’s great to see what is out there, but at the same time I need to resist temptation. ¬†It’s far too easy to hit the order button sitting in the sunshine with a glass of sangria! ¬†I have, however, found some amazing bargains to share with you!

First up the iconic MiH jeans. ¬†Bloggers everywhere have been singing their praises and Sue and Annmarie both have them. ¬†They were favorites of Jane Birkin and Farrah Fawcett and apparently the denim and cut feels supportive – holding you in, not leaving you short for air! ¬†ASOS.com have several styles left in the sale at incredible reductions. ¬†Keep checking back if your size isn’t available they do keep coming back in stock and ASOS updates regularly. ¬†My favorites are:

The Casablanca – reduced from $314 to $70:

I love this wash – so retro and great for summer.

Casablanca

The Breathless (reduced from $453 to $82):

This raw Japanese selvedge is stiff to start with but with wear becomes beautifully soft, aged denim. ¬†Every review says size up in the Breathless so you’re not left breathless.

Breathless

The Jane Jean (reduced from $362 to $68):

My personal favorite – I love the wash and the cropped, flared cut.

The totally trendy Phoebe jean is no longer available on Asos but I found them half price on Amazon here Рincluded in their Prime shipping program too!

Next up shoes – and I know this may be problematic for UK readers but Zappos.com have some GREAT discounts in the US.

My Nine West Oslos are now just $63.99:

These Angellicas are perfectly on trend with their lace up and will look perfect with dresses or jeans (reduced from $119 to $77).

Another of my favorites is the Kurrious Рavailable in black or taupe.  A great heel height for every day wear (reduced from $119 to $77).

My favorite Sam Edelman Reeves are now on sale too. ¬†I ‘ve worn these tonnes on vacation (reduced from $100 to $69.99).

I don’t need these Katarinas at all but they are sitting in my basket on Zappos right now – I love the putty shade – again reduced from $100 to $69.99.

These following dresses are not in the sale but are still great prices so I wanted to share them with you! ¬†This sleeveless swing dress is the same I have in grey, white and black – it is perfect for day to night on vacation and I have also worn mine as a beach throw on. ¬†I’ve just ordered it in navy.

This version is gorgeous Рthe pussy bow could be left looser for daytime, and I love the lower neckline.  The green and navy are stunning and are great vacation evening dresses.

Finally don’t forget the Nordstrom Anniversary sale has started. ¬†People in the US go crazy over it and they ship globally. ¬†It is a sale of NEW fall season items so you can stock up and be ready with your boots and coats! ¬†There are some amazing brands available at great discounts before they sell out in September!

A night out with MommyEnnui.com

After a failed attempt to get out for lunch on Friday, we thankfully made it out on Saturday night. ¬†We had a marvelous night at a local restaurant with MommyEnnui.com and her Husband. ¬†We have known each other for a while but our friendship has blossomed recently, and they mean the world to me. ¬†There are some people in life (few and far between unfortunately) who you know just love you for being you – warts and all; don’t judge – or if they do you debate it face-to-face; can laugh at themselves – and if they laugh at you you laugh right along too; and have true joie de vivre – but are happy to also admit it ain’t all perfect. ¬†We live in a bubble here in Atlanta where the houses are perfect, moms and their perky pony tails work out daily, and the children are smocked and monogrammed – so spending time with ‘normal’ people is cherished. ¬†We laughed all evening and I tried more vegetarian dishes than I ever thought possible:) ¬†Here’s to next time.

Belated birthday night out.

On Friday my lovely Husband got to celebrate his birthday at last. ¬†On the 30th I was so full of a cold that we decided to postpone till I had more ‘get up and go’. ¬†That happened on Friday. ¬†We went to Abattoir – absolutely our favorite restaurant to dine at here in Atlanta. ¬†There is a new chef and I was thrilled to see the steak tartare back on the menu, along with oysters. ¬†If you’d asked me five years ago if I’d be craving raw beef and oysters I would have heaved – how tastes change! ¬†If you get chance to go you must try the duck empanadas – they are to die for!

I’ve been waiting for an opportunity to wear my Zara harem jumpsuit – unfortunately as I swaggered into the living room feeling happy with my attire, my Husband had to quickly change his plans to wear his harems – we’re not ones to go out coordinated like Posh and Becks:)

As it was his birthday I decided not to wear a tank underneath and show a little cleavage. ¬†I don’t think he noticed…though he did notice my fabulous new AllSaints Monument jacket. ¬†I ADORE this coat – it’s so versatile and warm.
