The leather jacket – but not a black one in sight!

I adore a leather jacket – I always have – and this season there is an abundance of fabulously colored jackets to try instead of the tried and tested black leather jacket.

Let’s begin with top dollar on the high street – and some of the best leather jackets out there in my opinion – AllSaints.

The Balfern jacket is a regular style – a real classic. There was a baby pink available in the leather version which may still be available in stores but has sold out online. However, my favorite on me is the coral.

AllSaints Balfern leather jacket coral

The sky blue is really pretty – more of an egg shell blue.

Then there is suede – personally I prefer leather to avoid greasy finger marks – but this plait Balfern in clay pink is beautiful. It also comes in lemon yellow and luna blue here.

TheOutnet.com is always a great place to look for leather jackets. A couple of years ago I scored a gorgeously soft Maje jacket in a great orangey red. This Isabel Marant jacket in claret is 51% discounted.

This beautiful yellow jacket from IRO is 65% off.

Another amazing jacket from Isabel Marant at 68% off!

My favorite leathers this season are from Mango. They are always well priced, good leather and fit well. I actually just ordered this beautiful yellow leather jacket – I love the soft color with my coloring as opposed to some of the really vivid yellows. My skin is yellow enough thanks! I also love the plain neckline – most of my other leathers have a collar.

Mango yellow leather jacket

This red leather is fabulous – a really great price too.

Mango red leather jacket

I am super tempted by this blue jacket. I have a really deep indigo blue leather jacket from AllSaints but I really like this more summery blue here. I love the buckle detailing too.

Mango blue leather jacket

Finally green – just the perfect green for me too – a deep forest green.

Mango green leather jacket

TopShop have a great vivid red suede jacket that will add instant cool factor to any outfit.

Of course whenever you’re in doubt of where to find something ASOS is the place to head! This beautiful pink suede is available in all sizes and reduced by $200!

ASOS pink suede jacket

This one is so similar to the AllSaints jacket – well except for the pice tag – this is $500 cheaper!

There is of course a tremendous selection of studded and embroidered jackets out there right now – I’m afraid they just don’t appeal to me and I think they will date quickly. I like my classic leather jackets but I really don’t mind what color they are. There simply is nothing better to throw over a dress or jeans all year round.

My FIL arrived last night so we have a fun week ahead. It’s his birthday on Sunday so hopefully we will indulge in a good meal out once all our cheer competition commitments are over! It’s also my nephew’s birthday tomorrow so HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACK!

Today I’m in one of my favorite jacket and top combos – and I may have new sneakers on ūüėČ

I missed you too much to stay away!

I’m back! It has to be said that a break from blogging has done me good. It’s given me time and freedom to consider the things that are important to me, rather than¬†my final thoughts each evening being ‘what am I going to wear tomorrow?’

I’ve made several changes

  • I’ve stopped drinking alcohol and never felt better – I really am an all or nothing person and those glasses of wine were turning into regular bottles of wine which left me moody, tired and unfocused (if you are considering quitting I highly recommend the tools I used – Jason Vale’s ‘How to kick the drink¬†easily’ ¬†(kindly recommended by Nikki at Midlife Chic)¬†and Sober Mommies – a Facebook group of incredible moms, around the world, across the entire¬†spectrum of addiction and drugs – from those of us like myself who just enjoyed our wine too much – to those who have lost their children and families through opiate addiction. It’s an incredibly supportive group with¬†completely no judgement.)
  • I’ve lost weight – after falling for Jason Vale’s technique to quit drinking, I decided to turn to his juicing recipes to kickstart some weight loss. I managed 12 of the 28 days of the Super Juice Me¬†and now I’m following his 5:2 approach.
  • I got a tattoo! Yes my first and definitely go big or go home! Poppies happen to be my birth flower.

I’m happy to be back and I hope many of you are still out there to listen to my waffle ūüėČ

Peep Toe Booties!

As you know I’m quite partial to a pair of ankle boots. Given the warm temperatures here it is really hard to justify another pair (not to mention the fact I already have more pairs than a girl can wear in the deepest, longest winter!). Peep toe booties though, well they are quite another thing entirely. I happened to be in Nordstrom on Friday returning some items when lo and behold I noticed their shoe sale had started. They had a single pair of these left on the rack. The Sam Edelman Asher – reduced by 40% here.

Sam Edelman Asher Sam Edelman Asher Sam Edelman Asher

I actually tried an 8 instead of my usual 8.5 and it fits great – possibly because they are peep toe. Don’t let the height scare you either – they are ridiculously comfortable.

They are also available in a beautiful wine color here.

Sam Edelman Asher

And grey here.

These are stunning too and Amazon currently have 20% off for Veterans Day – these are very Emmanuelle Alt – I can see her wearing these with a pair of cropped kick flare jeans and a white shirt. The Sam Edelman Abbie boot.

Don’t forget in the UK the Carine Roitfeld collection launched last week – the jackets are stunning – especially the fur bomber jackets but they do fit small.

All I need now is cooler weather!

I love winter weather – it’s in my genes. Unfortunately I am still waiting for it to arrive with gusto here – yesterday we were baking in 80 degree weather while trick or treating! Not to worry I am still preparing for a long winter with a couple of new purchases.

The Alexa collection for Marks & Spencer is now love and I couldn’t resist the Briggate trench. I think it will look super cool with skinnies and ankle boots with a graphic t-shirt. It’s now available here and I BET it sells out before the end of the week!

The Carine Roitfeld collection for Uniqlo is released in the UK on November 3rd at 10am. If you want anything I’d advise you to be quick with that too! Anything leopard print sold out here day 1 – including the bomber jacket and the above coat. I’ve stalked the coat here and it just came back in stock in a Small and Large – thank you!

I’m going to try and hold off now till the end of the year…ah hem…I know, I know…but we are off to Costa Rica for Christmas so not sure trenches and fur coats will be required then!

We had an amazing weekend celebrating Dave’s 50th – we had a lovely family dinner out on Saturday. It’s so nice now that the children are old enough to come with us. Poppy is just like me and loves getting dressed up for dinner out! I wore this fabulous dress that was 50% off in the & Other Stories sale – it’s one of those every occasion dresses that will be perfect for beach vacations too.

Yesterday was a rather tumultuous day. After campaigning for Hillary on Friday and receiving my yard sign I was very proud to display it. Someone stole it on Sunday – not only is it illegal but I felt violated that my property had been taken and that somebody had actually been to the trouble to walk into my yard and take it. After venting my frustration on our neighborhood website, in what I considered and non-partisan manner, I was then mocked, attacked and abused by online comments all day. I love democracy and would never attack another for their opposing views – this election is making me VERY sad though and the hate that it is proliferating is nothing but terrifying. Onwards and upwards. Wearing new boots helped.

How to wear joggers out of the house!

I know many of you swear that joggers, or sweatpants, are for indoor, slobbing in front of the tv, use only. Many are I agree. I have some lovely slouchy Reebok joggers that are so soft – but their shape is massively unflattering and only my immediate family will ever get to see me in them! However, I do believe that if you select the right shape – maybe slimmer in the leg, with a proper cuff at the ankle, then joggers can look great for casual wear. In fact you can even try heels with them – a step too far for me.

My favorite inspiration for wearing joggers comes from Sincerely, Jules. She wears them with absolute cool and aplomb.

I also love these looks.

I really love the idea of a pair of off white/cream joggers but they are hard to come by. I found these at TopShop, which look great.

I have an old pair of Zara camo joggers but these look amazing – I love the stripe down the leg. It’s always promising when an item gets great reviews!

Uniqlo are a great goto source for joggers. Always great quality and a great price. These are similar to the pair I am wearing below.

A new children’s tv presenter?

I only ask this question as those of you who remember Floella Benjamin and Brian Cant may see why my jumpsuit and fringed sneakers made me think of them today! I’m ready to step in a present Play Away anytime!

I am head over heels in love with these new premium leather fringe Converse. SO comfortable – I always seem to take half a size down in Converse – these are a US 8 instead of my usual US 8.5.

Cashmere for Christmas

I think my appreciation for the finer things in life has definitely developed over the past 5 years or so. At one point I would have considered cashmere an unnecessary indulgence. These days I can’t live without it at this time of year (well of course I could live without it, but I’d prefer not to have to!!).

My most favorite pieces of cashmere are my Marks & Spencer Rosie for Autograph cashmere lounge pants/pajama bottoms. I call them lounge pants because I never sleep in them – they are purely a winter alternative to sweatpants. I currently have 2 pairs that I have had a couple of years and last night was their first wear of the year. Absolutely blissfully soft they are just gorgeous for slobbing out in, watching the Sunday night football, with a cup of peppermint tea, admiring the Christmas tree!

This year I have treated myself to these additional pieces.

This wrap is beautiful and perfect for throwing over my pjs in the morning – I always have the heating off at night so it can be chilly when we get up!

wrap dressing gown

These are similar to the pairs I already own but have the cuffed hem instead of the straight leg. Just throw a t-shirt on and your done – perfect for after dinner when your waistline needs some sympathy:)

cuffed hem Rosie pajama pants

Finally – these are similar to those that I already have in light grey and black. These days I much prefer grey for around the house – white boxer hair is no friend of black knitwear!

straight leg rosie pajama pants

If you deserve a treat or know someone who does I can’t think of anything more perfect to find under the tree this year!

Finally I’m jumping for joy as the cold has arrived here in Atlanta! Time to get the coats out!

Partywear!

Yet again I have very few Christmas parties lined up. Something for which I am truly grateful for Рespecially when vague memories of drunken Christmas parties from my City days rear their ugly heads! Free wine, dancing and 25 years old Рa messy, messy recipe Рespecially when London black cabs disappear off the streets at midnight, and cell phones are not common place. Yes, yes, yes I am much happier with a lovely dinner out with friends these days!

However, that does not mean to say I don’t like to get the glad rags on still! I’m all for dressing up for the season! This year H&M have knocked it out of the park with sequins and sparkles at great prices, so you can indulge in a one hit wonder for the festive season!

I am all about jumpsuits and boy do they have some amazing ones on offer. Don’t be scared of the romper either – with opaque tights and ankle boots they can be a winner at any age!

This halter neck jumpsuit is stunning – so 70s and very sexy.

glitter jumpsuit

I adore this sequin romper – imagine with opaque tights and some block heeled ankle boots.

How divine is this one shoulder jumpsuit? Again super sexy with a little 80s thing going on. At just $59.99 it’s in my cart as we speak!

I haven’t hit the order button yet as I am torn between that one and this one – it looks incredible comfortable and is just $39.99.

Another romper – it looks far more expensive than it’s price tag. Just love, love the lace and the high neck – it might not love my boobs though.

Finally how stunning is this little number. I so badly want to wear this but fear the neckline is too high for my chest. If you have less up top than me – you lucky girls I implore you to try it!

I’m wearing a bit of daytime sequin too from H&M today – this jumper is only $19.99. I’m wearing an XL as I wanted it oversized. I’ve already had compliments a plenty on it at the gas station this morning!

Yesterday was spent getting the garden dressed for Christmas. I have spent all morning trying to tell a daft, deaf dog that no matter how loud or often she barks, the ‘intruder’ in the red hat in the garden will not leave as he is inflated, staked in the ground and plugged in!

What to wear now the cold is here!

I’m so excited! Atlanta is COLD! Yay!! At last I get to wear some of my winter clothes – of which I have far too many for our climate! I’ll be in flip flops by March again…but I won’t rub it in!

So what am I wearing now the cold is here? Well I have my eye on several of these beautiful faux fur stoles. Even though it is cold here, with our car culture, I can pretty much get away with a leather jacket and scarf. So why not dress up a great biker jacket with one of these beauties?

Sue first noticed this one in TopShop and I have it in my closet – it looks far more expensive than it’s price tag of $60.

colorblockThis green stole is beautiful – much more subtle, but again it looks more than it’s price tag of $52.

19R51IBRN_2_thumbI love mongolian furs Рthis takes me back 20 years when I had a black mongolian fur jacket that I bought on Portobello Road with my measly student funds.

ombreThis New Look stole is gorgeous – it keeps going in and out of stock on Asos – but be persistent their website updates real time. At just $36 it’s hardly surprising it’s selling out!

On arriving back home laden with goodies for Poppy and Hugh, I was thrilled to find my Carine Roitfeld coat from Uniqlo had finally arrived. Their customer service has been atrocious – no one picking up in their call center, orders being cancelled with no explanation, and delivery taking an obscene length of time. Not good, not good at all for a global retailer. Thank goodness I love it!
