The London trip!!

Sorry for my unusually long absence – I normally try to keep blogging while I’m back in the UK but this year my trip is shorter and I’ve been busier! I arrived last Monday morning and then Tuesday my sister and I took my Mum out to Manchester for an early Mother’s Day shopping trip and lunch. It was fabulous fun and we had lunch at a great restaurant, The Alchemist, in Spinningfields. Lots of sharing plates and prosecco!

The shopping continued though we were quite restrained! We did end up back in Selfridges for a little more prosecco before heading back home. My poor Dad was at home waiting for his supper 🙂 Apparently I led everyone astray…

Wednesday was spent pottering at home with my nephews – they grow up so fast and it was lovely to spend time with them – though they are always a tad cautious to start with – Auntie Jo is a bit mad apparently…

On Thursday it was time to head to Laaandaan town. Having lived there for about 8 years in the 90s it’s hard to explain the feeling of ‘heading home’, but at the same time feeling like a tourist! My heart was pounding with excitement when I got off the train at Euston. On Thursday night I headed out south of the river and met up with some old work friends from my graduate training days at PwC. We haven’t seen each other for years and it was so lovely to catch up. I walked across the Millennium Bridge from St. Paul’s to get there and it was simply breathtaking!

On Friday morning I popped by to see Liz, while detoxing with a run through Green Park.

Saturday was the MAIN event! Our annual blogger meet up. I’ve made the most amazing friends from blogging and these are truly some of the most important women in my life. I always plan on taking a tonne of photos but once the prosecco starts flowing we always end up forgetting. The afternoon flies by! I can’t even begin to count the number of topics we covered – none of them fashion related! 😉 Thanks SO much to the following girls for making it such a special day!

I’ll be back on the other side of the Atlantic tomorrow ready to place my US vote on Super Tuesday, once I’ve hugged my Husband and kids tightly!

Stubborn as a…

…Mule – only we’re talking about the trend for the flat leather variety that seems to be with us to stay in 2016, not the ass.

15 years ago, one of my first purchases on this side of the Atlantic, was a pair of Kenneth Cole leather, flat mules. I LOVED them. They were cheap as chips from a shoe outlet, beautiful leather, and the perfect shoe for my new US ‘business casual’ attire. They hid the toes in the absence of a pedicure, yet were cool enough to wear in the heat here. I have to say I am rather pleased that they are back on trend.

My favorite pair are these from Rag & Bone. I have some Net-a-porter.com credit to use and once I’ve returned from my UK trip I’ve a feeling these may be ordered. I adore the suede and leather combination.

This croc effect shoe from Robert Clergerie is gorgeous, and similar to those in one of the images from Pinterest. Much more masculine than the Rag & Bone mule.

The Pierre Hardy mule in tan suede is stunning. Very chic and minimal.

For some high street options take a look at the TopShop Kola – I understand it fits small – but it is beautiful and I especially love the bordeaux.

These from Camper are a little more out there – but I have to say I quite like their quirkiness – they look super comfy too!

The Lauryn mule from Via Spiga is a classic. I love the toe shape – also it is currently 40% off!

Another of my absolute favorites that I stumbled upon are these Moroccan Tia slippers from Dolce Vita. They also come in caramel.

Urban Outfitters carry them in this fabulous black and white print too.

Anthropologie has the Rachel Comey Brie slides which are beautiful and so neat. Pricey, but classic.

Finally, just for the hell of it, – how about the classic brown leather Gucci Princetown?

So what do you think – have you bought into the pedi saving mule or are they too much like house slippers for you?

As for my weekend it was a leisurely one at that – lots of dining out and little else while the kids were on Winter break. The countdown to my transatlantic trip on Sunday has now begun!

Back to black

I’ve experimented with all sorts of colors and patterns yet I always come, as ACDC say, back to black. I love how dramatic even the most basic black outfit can be made to look with a great bold lipstick. I’m still obsessed with flares – I find them so flattering and this pair from ASOS are so comfortable and have a great high rise. I decided to try and play around with some proportions today so I have a longer sweater on under a shorter jacket. This bag has become my favorite this winter – it’s so comforting on freezing days!

It’s snowing – let’s get the faux fur coats out quick!

I have previously bemoaned the short winters here in Atlanta. I love winter dressing and try to make the most of the winter months. Today we woke up to unexpected snow flurries so I quickly changed my planned attire (I always select my outfit the night before to prevent harassed mornings!) and grabbed my over the knee boots and faux fur for extra warmth. I love a good faux fur and there is so little opportunity to wear them that perhaps having 3 in my closet is overkill, never mind the AllSaints shearling that made it’s way to my home late last year!

I love faux fur so much I actually have a Pinterest board dedicated to it. In my opinion the blogger Maja Wyh and Kate Moss wear fur the best. They always look incredible and never anything close to a character from Monsters Inc.

Back to the grindstone!

The flu bug has left the house! Hooray! All have returned to school which means I have to drag my sorry arse back to the office! Wasn’t sure what to wear today and in the end I opted for what I am calling ‘polished comfort’! Stretchy crepe flares which have an elastic waistband – so they are basically tailored sweats, sneakers and a shirt and jacket. Trying to channel Emmanuel Alt again with my tie waisted jacket which was a complete bargain in the sale at H&M.

A must have coat that is now 50% off!

I much prefer Mango these days to Zara. Zara still grab my attention with their shoes, but for coats, tops and dresses I always have far more luck with Mango. I find their sizing more generous.

This coat is now 50% off in their sale. It’s a beautiful cocoon shape and not too long. Yes, yes I know I have the M&S checked coat (which is now also in the sale with lots of sizes left!) that I also love (and wore here) but trust me this purchase is warranted as the two coats are very different! Take note of the coated jeggings too – cheap as chips (just $12.59 on deal now!) and wonderfully stretchy and comfortable from H&M – I highly recommend them! I’ll certainly be buying the gray while they’re on special offer – I’m comfortably in a US 10 and H&M tend to fit tiny in my experience.

Still at home with a poorly girl so hopefully will have time to blog more than an outfit soon! In the meantime today we are binge watching old Survivor series!

Unexpected movie days

I’m watching the end of The Devil Wears Prada snuggled up on the sofa with a poorly girl. She’s on the mend but while I have her home its lovely indulging in some chick flicks with her.

Needless to say I have spent most of the time in sweats but decided that the doctor may prefer it if I turned up dressed. I took advantage of the warm weather to get the ankles out with my new Zara shoes. They are fabulous Prada tributes! I hope this isn’t the end of winter though as I am still in boot and coat mode!
