That dress!

How serendipitous! Remember those dresses I blogged about the other day from & Other Stories? Well they are currently running a promotion with 20% off all dresses! Take advantage of it – my dress arrived yesterday and I adore it. Not to mention the new shoes! I put them both straight on today so ignore the packing creases – the humidity here today will sort them out!

I needed to do a quick tan top up on the legs but it is now easy as pie as I have discovered the best mitt and tanner that I have ever used, and I’ve used a lot so thank goodness the research has paid off at last! All the other mitts I have used have fallen apart after a few uses and washes. This one is a beautiful soft fabric with a waterproof liner so it can be washed and washed, and you won’t stain your hands.

The tanner I have started using is Vita Liberata. It’s pricy but it lasts for ages before you need to top up – 2-3 weeks, depending on how often you shower and exfoliate. It gives a great natural tan – in fact my dermatologist thought I had been in the sun and scalded me before I told here it was self tanner! It’s also 80% organic and has no nasty smell.

OK it’s Thursday and I’m off to start my weekend! Enjoy!

Even shorter!

How can a great haircut make a girl so happy!? I absolutely love my new shorter do. I knew when I first went short again the other month that I would be going even shorter soon and here I am back to my old self! I feel me again! If you are in Atlanta I urge you to pay O’Neil at Van Michael a visit – best cut ever, and you won’t stop chatting!

Yesterday the husband didn’t disappoint with his quick witted ‘are you still painting?’ jibe – I should have put money on it. I don’t care however, I love these dungarees, best fit ever – lovely and slouchy – I sized up to a large, with a lovely shaped leg. The bib on these seems to sit really well on my boobs – it can be dangerous for us with boobs as that bib can get lost or stuck! 😉 These and the indigo version are 40% off in the US with code HAPPY.

In other news these fabulous espadrilles have now arrived on the US & Other Stories site – they are here on the UK site.

Enjoy!

We’re off to watch the Hawks basketball tonight – it’s going to be a late one and some cranky kids will be around tomorrow morning – think of me as I am trying to herd them out of the house for school at 7.15am!

My current favorite store

I haven’t shopped at Zara for months, I dip in and out of Mango, and I’ve been cruising H&M more and more. That’s when I remembered that H&M also has sister brands – & Other Stories and COS. I’m thrilled that we now have a COS in Buckhead here in Atlanta – I’ve yet to visit but will report back soon. On their ‘About’ page this is how COS describe themselves:

COS is a fashion brand for women and men who want modern, functional, considered design.

Offering reinvented classics and wardrobe essentials, we create pieces that are made to last beyond the season. Traditional methods and new techniques merge to form timeless, understated collections.

Since launching in 2007, we have opened stores worldwide in carefully considered locations, applying an architectural design concept that preserves buildings’ original features whilst creating a modern, welcoming space.

For now let’s focus on my new favorite online store – & Other Stories. Online as it currently only has two NYC stores in the US. Please come to Atlanta soon! Here is how they describe themselves:

& Other Stories is a fashion brand offering women a wide range of shoes, bags, accessories, beauty and ready-to-wear to create their personal style, or story. Our creative ateliers in Paris and Stockholm design diversified fashion collections with great attention to detail and quality at an affordable price.

Today, a woman with a love for fashion creates her own style.

She wears things that feel right to her and reflect her personality. & Other Stories is about bringing everything she can wear into one place, focusing on the whole look. We believe shoes, bags, jewellery, lingerie and beauty are key for styling and just as important as clothing.

Our collections are built around inspiring fashion stories. All our lines are diverse, ranging from masculine tailoring to feminine chic and designed to provide endless styling choices.

Their collection really is diverse. I also love how their site is designed with a ‘Ready-to-wear’ section – it really elevates the brand.

I’ve just made an order and I’ll let you know what’s on it’s way shortly. First I want to share some of my favorite items and help some of you who are new to & Other Stories get familiar with it. I am still navigating my way through it. The price points are great for the style and aesthetic of the clothes, more than H&M, but you’re getting better quality and a more classic piece for your closet. If you are in the US be warned – stock sells out FAST! New stock also shows up slower than in the UK. Looking between the US and the UK sites there are far more sizes still available in the UK.

This dress is beautiful – very D&G – and it also comes in white. So feminine and pretty but could easily be toughened up with a denim or leather jacket.

I’m in love with the shape of this shirt dress. It’s so flattering, wonderfully cool for summer and really easy to wear dressed up or down. I particularly love the herbarium print in white. It’s just $55 too! If you sign up as a new site user you will receive a FRIENDS code for 10% off your first order.

This dress is the herbarium print too – so fun and funky. Beautifully abstract. The asymmetrical hem here is perfect. I love this for a spring or summer wedding then it can easily be worn as a day dress.

I’m in love with the styling here. I’d like to look like this every day please. This layering shirt dress is such a basic but looks so cool over leather pants or jeans.

Here’s the dress I’ve ordered – I’m afraid it’s sold out on the US site but there may be returns. It’s the print I love and the shape is perfect for my shape – I get to show my legs and hide my tummy! It’s just £45 in the UK, and $65 in the US – I LOVE the fact they don’t just double the numbers for the US as many European stores do.

Now to my other & Other Stories obsession – their shoes. SO cool, great unique designs and great prices.

These are in my order –

I just love the color of the beige mule and the shape of the toe. At $135 they are even cheaper than the Everlane version. They are also available in black in the UK.

I’ve had the ATP Atelier version of these sandals in and out of my basket on NAP forever! Now I have these on their way for half the price!

These espadrilles haven’t arrived online in the US yet – watch out for them – they will fly out of stock. I am particularly enamored by the blush pair available here in the UK. The black and white are a great Chanel tribute.

Finally these are so cool – a mule skate shoe or a skate shoe mule? Perfect for slipping on for vacation travel.

Do let me know if you have shopped with & Other Stories for a while – I’d love to know your thoughts, equally if you are new to the brand – what do you think?!

Big shoes!

By big shoes I mean chunky, platforms, flatforms, wedges and so on, not shoes that are too big for you! I love shoes – shoes and bags being my main indulgences. You can change an outfit in an instant with different shoes or a different bag. I’m no wall flower when it comes to shoes. I like big, brash, loud, outlandish shoes as much as I love a fabulous simple flat or elegant pump.

Yesterday I wore my Isabel Marant wedges. When I was back in London I was really surprised how many people were wearing them – I saw several on the street and Selfridges still sell them. I was fortunate enough to grab these on TheOutnet.com last year.

I love this espadrille flatform for the summer!

I adore Kurt Geiger shoes and they ship to the US. This pair is divine and Alex at The-Frugality.com owns them, there aren’t many sizes left though.

KG bow

I am obsessing over these – the perfect white flatform for summer. Great with shorts or boyfriend jeans.

The Logan in khaki is in my bag – just debating the navy too – really don’t need more navy flatforms but the fabric is beautiful

I have this pair – called the Lizard – in black and snakeskin, last worn here. They are incredibly comfortable!

I also have this pair for summer that are in the sale, but be quick there’s only a couple of sizes left.

Flatforms are now so popular in fact, Kurt Geiger has a whole section on their site dedicated to them!

These have to be the most perfect, contemporary, beetle creepers that I have seen in a long time. Obsessed with them!

So lots to consider – now you just have to be willing to draw a little attention to your feet – and I warn you, not everyone loves them like me! 😉

The maxi dress

I admit I have struggled with the maxi dress. I have a couple of lovely jersey Splendid dresses that I wear on vacation, but I tend to feel too ‘dressed up’ in them for everyday wear. That is until I tried this H&M dress. I was actually really surprised how much I like it. Maybe it’s the sheer lower half that helps – I don’t feel too covered up if that makes sense!? I also love the colors and the pattern. It’s got a little stretch in it so it is really comfortable to wear. Dressed down with sneakers it is a great day dress. It’s now on sale at $29.99, reduced from $59.99.

Here are some other maxi dresses I am now tempted to try! I may be hooked!

This dress is also H&M and beautiful – very Grecian!

This Mango dress is stunning – I love the colors and it’s sheerness.

This is also Mango and stunning – I love the back detail. As a side note – I have the sandals in this image and they are gorgeous, I love the thong toe.

Mango again – the embroidery on this is lovely. I also really like the length. I love how they have styled it with the black sandals – perfect.

Back to H&M – unfortunately this is sold out online here in the US but I will be trying to track it down in store and checking for returns online – it is so elegant and just $24.99.

This dress is so Marrakech – I think I can also convince myself it’s perfect for Istanbul this year with the covered arms.

So do you do maxis or not? I’d love to hear where you them down!

Getting the legs out

It’s hot, hot, hot here in Atlanta. Summer may well be here – April 18th – not bad going! These are the days that short hair really is a bonus! In honor of the sun I got my legs out and wore a favorite dress and boot pairing of mine that I wore way back here too.

Gap have been getting a lot of attention from me recently – not only are their reductions great but their offerings this season are gorgeous! Here are the dresses that have caught my eye so far! Today there is 40% off with code HAPPY – if you miss it don’t worry there will be another one soon!

I absolutely adore this one but with long sleeves I’m not sure how practical it is now the heat is here. It also comes in a beautiful off white with navy stitching.

I love orange with a tan and this sleeveless dress is so floaty and cool looking.

I love the double layers on this linen-cotton mix. Really simple with an added twist. It also comes in black.

While we’re at Gap the tencel trousers that I love are now on sale – plus the 40% off can be applied.

They also come in black, olive and chambray – perfect for spring.

A slightly heavier looking denim pair, but still a jogger shape, have caught my attention. I love these. I think they would be perfect for airline travel – comfortable yet a little warmer for that freezing in flight AC!

denim joggers

And how awesome would this sweatshirt look with them!? I love the wide neckline and 3/4 length sleeves. It would be great paired with denim shorts too. It also comes in chalk and light grey.

Going back to the joggers I discussed last week, I think these slim cut, sun washed joggers are perfect for dressing up a bit. These also come in grey marl and space dye grey.

Lastly, given several of us have fallen in love with dungarees again, how about a white distressed pair. Imagine a little sun kissed skin showing through, with a simple tank under them. LOVE.

So much great stuff – well done Gap – you have won me back as a regular customer. Thanks for the 40% code too!!

How to wear joggers out of the house!

I know many of you swear that joggers, or sweatpants, are for indoor, slobbing in front of the tv, use only. Many are I agree. I have some lovely slouchy Reebok joggers that are so soft – but their shape is massively unflattering and only my immediate family will ever get to see me in them! However, I do believe that if you select the right shape – maybe slimmer in the leg, with a proper cuff at the ankle, then joggers can look great for casual wear. In fact you can even try heels with them – a step too far for me.

My favorite inspiration for wearing joggers comes from Sincerely, Jules. She wears them with absolute cool and aplomb.

I also love these looks.

I really love the idea of a pair of off white/cream joggers but they are hard to come by. I found these at TopShop, which look great.

TopShop joggers

I have an old pair of Zara camo joggers but these look amazing – I love the stripe down the leg. It’s always promising when an item gets great reviews!

Uniqlo are a great goto source for joggers. Always great quality and a great price. These are similar to the pair I am wearing below.

Uniqlo grey

I absolutely LOVE them in the olive.

So here I am in an attempt to look effortlessly cool in my joggers 🙂

So have I convinced you that they can be worn outside, or do you still think they are for sofa slobbing only?

Today I’m feeling quite bright and springlike, now we just need the sun again so I can get back into sandals as opposed to boots!

Parenting 101

My 8 year old son, Hugh, was miserable yesterday morning. Tired, grumpy and sulky. He listed off several grievances in the car on the way to school – ‘we boss him around, and don’t appreciate him’ being just two of them.

Normally I would react like this…

Parenting 101

My Husband, however, had a different approach. When I got to work he gave me this letter which he had written for Hugh. We co-signed it and when Hugh returned from school I handed it to him. He accepted it, read it and didn’t say much except ‘it’s a long letter’.

Since reading it he has been eager to please and all smiles. It might not last, but it gave me reason to believe that sometimes kids just want to have their grievances acknowledged, like any adult would. Thank you to my amazing Husband for balancing my quick temper and lack of patience with his thoughtfulness and abundant patience.

(Excuse the couple of typos – it wasn’t proof read before handing it over!)

Overalls or dungarees?

Festival time is here – whether it’s a music festival or a fun neighborhood festival (we have many here in Atlanta), it’s time to dig out the festival clothes. Dungarees are a perennial favorite. Comfort, style and versatility make them my choice. Admittedly for the larger chested of us, they can be problematic, but I have discovered a great pair from H&M with thinner straps and a looser fit that seem to work well. I like to wear dungarees as simply as possible with a plain t-shirt and sneakers or espadrilles. I’m definitely a proponent of the dressed down dungaree look as opposed to the dressed up look – though I did try them with heels back here and here – I was a very early adopter of dungarees!

H&M are a great source of overalls – though be warned the sizing varies drastically! Some are teeny tiny and others need a size down. I think the pair I am wearing today are true to size – with a looser fit.

button overalls

I also have this pair in a medium – they are sold out here online but check out stores – they are gorgeous and a great boyfriend fit.

loose fit overalls

I tried this cropped pair on in London and they are small fitting – I probably sized up 2 sizes! Having said that ignore the size on the label – they are gorgeous.

Again a pair that are unfortunately oos online – but I love the fit and flare cut of these.

Gap have a very similar style here. They are now on sale with an extra 35% off here in the US using code STYLE – certainly worth a punt!

I’m also smitten with this style – I love Gap’s denim. These are an online exclusive – with 35% off using STYLE.

Finally another of my favorite stores for denim – Madewell. I just love this skinny cut and they get rave reviews.

Here I am today in dress down comfort. My new Primark jacket also gets it’s first outing – thank you so much for sending Sue!! I’ve cut the label off the sleeve now after leaving it on all morning much to the amusement of my Husband!

Back to work

And just like that spring break is over with. We had an incredible week with the best weather ever, topped off with the Masters this weekend and what turned out to be a fabulous last round resulting in an English winner!!

Re-entry really hasn’t been that bad today – the kids were happy to be back at school, and even happier to know that they only have just over 6 weeks left before school is out for summer!

It’s a bit chillier here in Atlanta this week so the cardigans are back out, but I’m thrilled to say, after another 3 miles on the treadmill this morning I am back in my Zara US 6 coated trousers! Yes they have a bit of stretch but I don’t care, I feel fit, healthy and strong! I’m alternating between watching Sons of Anarchy and Happy Valley on Netflix on the treadmill – I don’t even notice the miles when I get sucked into a series!

booties CollageTrousers – Zara (old) // Boots – Steve Madden (REALLY old) // Top – AllSaints // Cardigan – Zara (last season) // Bag – Givenchy Pandora

I had a couple of parcels waiting on me when I got home. One contained these fab Mango trousers. They are quite Indochina – cropped, khaki and yet have a pattern embossed in them. Size down – they fit big – these are a US 8 and I bet I could have got in a US 6 as they give a bit on wearing too.

Mango trousersTrousers – Mango // Top – Zara (old) // Leather flip-flops – Gap

I’ll reveal the other items as the week goes on, with one very exciting item!
