Fall shopping in 90 degree heat…

I hope you all had a great Bank Holiday weekend in the UK! We have our long weekend here this week for Labor Day. Labor Day traditionally signals the end of summer but in Georgia it will be in the 80s till well into October! Having said that the heat doesn’t stop me from thinking about all things Fall!

I’ve already ordered this awesome jacket. Zara have a similar version but I prefer the Mango one as the fabric is a short furry fabric…softer and more appropriate for leopard print – at least I think so!

I’ve also ordered these dresses. Yes I know, I know…I couldn’t decide which color so ordered both! Not to mention they are a great price. How cool will they look with a biker jacket or the jacket above to give them a little attitude!?

I did a little survey on these boots the other day on Instagram. I was torn – I love the blue but they are higher than the brown and pink. Both are stunning and perfect with dresses or jeans. I think I’m going for the higher blue pair

Cambell boot Taye boot

These are on my MUST HAVE list for winter – but I will try and wait for these, hoping they won’t sell out!

Sable boot

Finally I have just ordered this sweater from Zara – it comes in mink, khaki and grey. How fabulous is it with either skinnies (with the boots above!) or boyfriend jeans – so slouchy.

Oh how I love dressing for Fall and Winter – I really do live in the wrong part of the world!

Poppy and I had fun the other day – I did my own #2 undercut – so easy, a little nerve wracking, but easier than anticipated!

The dog days of summer

Mid August in Georgia is just miserable…moan, moan, moan…hot, humid and hot! Thank goodness for AC! Though the AC in the office blows snowballs so a jacket is still required for inside! Today I have just a quick outift catch up from this week – it’s been a busy one now we are back at school and normal work weeks have resumed. Oh and yes I’ve been learning to drive a manual car again – not too much gear crunching thankfully! I still love my GTI and I’ve just about figured out the radio and all the buttons!

A birthday and an unexpected gift!

So the celebrations have ended, but definitely on a high note! I was greeted by the children with breakfast in bed on Wednesday morning – so lovely! Then it was off out for lunch with my husband, and maybe a glass of prosecco. I do love a long lazy lunch!

That evening we went out for dinner and cocktails. It is fun to go out on a school night but I certainly can’t do it every week! 45 is turning to out to be pretty fun so far!

Before we went on vacation my husband had someone drive into the back of him – we found out this week that the car had to be written off as a total loss. So sad! We had had both of our cars – a large sedan and an SUV for about 10 years and had planned to keep them till the wheels dropped off! Having no car payments was lovely but they were also expensive to maintain. I say ‘they’ as while my husband is looking for a new car we decided it was time to trade in my SUV. With more than 100k miles on the clock, and no longer needing to carry strollers and carseats around, I decided it was time for a little driving fun! I’ve ended up with my ‘dream’ ‘hot hatch’ – a Golf SE GTI! It’s manual too!! I haven’t driven a stick for 16 years (the sales guy on the test drive went a bit pale once I mentioned that….) but after missing a few gears, and a few gear crunches, it was like I’d always driven one! I LOVE it. It is so much fun! All I need now are some furry dice on the rearview mirror! Today I have mostly been reading car manuals!!

Funnily enough my husband is STILL without a car…he is contemplating something fun and smaller too! Once again we’ll be the odd foreigners…driving small cars, in a neighborhood of SUVs, trucks and luxury sedans!

Back to reality

Well we made it home safe and sound, if a little tired. 12 hours is a long time to be on a flight! I’m still not sure what time it is and I feel pretty fuzzy but the kids were up bright and early this morning excited to see their friends in their last week of camp before school starts!

I am back in the office trying to remember what I do for a living 😉

I do love a good dress

A dress can be the easiest thing to throw on – and when you get it right it can be a killer outfit! I love a dress and my closet is now diversifying from the AllSaints drapes that I adore. Of course heading to Turkey next week gives me the excuse to buy dresses – they feel more conservative and appropriate in Istanbul – even a strappy sundress can be adapted for a mosque with a scarf over the shoulders.

I have this Gap dress in pink and adore it – I’ve just ordered the blue with code TGIF in the US – I have a large – it’s cut quite narrow around the bust so be careful if you are well endowed. Oh and I can’t stand the belt so have immediately discarded it!

Gap

& Other Stories are fabulous for unusual prints and they have their sale running right now. There are some dresses from a couple of seasons ago that I have ordered.

Many of my friends have the porcelain midi dress – I’ve ordered this style – I’m really starting to embrace blue. It’s reduced from $115 to $58.

porcelain

The Mountain print dress is pretty polarizing but I think it will look amazing with a tan and black espadrilles. This is reduced from $90 to $45.

moutain print

Finally in the sale – a dress I see wearing a lot in the Fall with ankle boots – I’ve been desperate for another plaid dress and love the length of this one. Reduced from $115 to $58.

There is 25% off certain footwear and dresses at Madewell this weekend with code UNIFORM. I’ve ordered these for my vacation closet. Size down in the dress.

Vacation planning

In 3 weeks time we’ll be back in Istanbul! We have a week in the city before heading to the coast where we are staying in a house on the beach for 3 weeks. I am already panicking about what to pack!

I love to get ‘dressed up’ when we’re in Istanbul – we don’t go anywhere too ‘fancy’ but this year we have said we may visit SoHo House for roof top cocktails. When we get to the beach I live in swimwear and denim shorts – so that is pretty easy – though this year we are staying a bit more out of the way, so I need to be cognizant of cultural norms and not head out wearing my sheer, see through dress…no I don’t have one!

I have to say I am completely smitten with Gap this year. I have bought more from them than any other year – hopefully I’ll pull them through their tough times they are currently experiencing! Over the weekend I ordered the following to throw in my case. In the US there is currently 40% off with code MONDAY.

I absolutely love a romper for the beach – we are literally right on the beach this year so this will be ideal for heading up back to the house for a cocktail. I can throw it on over my bikini after a tough day on the sand.

scoop neck romper

This maxi dress is gorgeous for Istanbul – I can throw a scarf around my shoulders when I need to show a little respect in certain areas or when visiting a mosque, and then it’s perfect for roof top cocktails listening to the call to prayer.

maxi dress

These soft spun dresses are currently reduced and the 40% off can still be applied. I adore them. Perfect for sightseeing – beautifully cool when being dragged walking around ancient ruins in the blistering heat!

yellow racerback coral racerback

I love the colour of this linen dress – again perfect for day to night in Istanbul with a pair of espadrilles.

Gap linen dress

Now with denim shorts I love to wear a lovely lacy, pretty top. Mango is always my destination for blouses as they are more generous across the bust and go up to a US 10 in most cases.

This is so pretty  – I love a collar.

embroidered blouse

I have a similar embroidered blouse to this one that I love to wear with jeans under a jacket in the spring and fall so it is really versatile.

embroidered blouse 1

This in pink is gorgeous – I have bought this – it is such and unusual shade – normally tops are ecru or black and that’s it! It will look stunning with black or grey jeans at home too.

pink blouse

Ok I made a joke about sheer dresses but this sheer blouse is beautiful over a cami and has sleeves so provides a little more modesty.

sheer blouse

As always I will pack too much, wear 1/3 of it and get complaints from the rest of the family about the weight of my bag. I will never be a capsule packer! What about all those ‘just in case’ situations! 😉

As for the past week I feel I’ve been busier than ever with the kids out of school – the morning disappears when they are at camp and then I take them to the pool which requires an hour of preparation finding swimsuits, towels, lost goggles, spf and enough snacks to feed an army. On Friday I thought I’d cracked it then turned up at the pool without my own bikini bottoms – damn!

And before I leave you – TopShop are on fire with their shoe game this season. Check out these new Gucci tributes – they are available in pink and gold and will sell out in a flash like the loafers!

What I’ve bought over the Memorial Weekend…

Ok first of all I admit they weren’t all on sale. Take for example these boots. I knew I had to have them as soon as I saw them on WhoWhatWear.com this morning. I adore the juxtaposition of a masculine bootie with the feminine lace details – very Emmanuelle Alt.

I did take advantage of the Gap 40% off with code LONGWKND to stock up on some lovely slub t-shirts.

I love these swing t-shirts to wear with denim shorts – great muffin top hiders!

Also the tank version.

Finally I couldn’t resist ordering this dress to try – it will be lovely for my vacation in a month’s time – fingers crossed it works!

Who What Wear with Target

Back in January WhoWhatWear.com launched it’s collaboration with Target. Their clothes are lovely on trend pieces – and all under $50. I picked up this beautiful blush dress the other day, and in black too. It is so easy to wear either as off the shoulder or on the shoulder and I find the length really flattering. It’s the perfect summer dress and just $34.99 – oh and it goes with my & Other Stories espadrilles perfectly!

You may have noticed I have had my haircut again! One of the drawbacks of super short hair is that I can’t go longer than 4 weeks without a cut. I left Van Michael feeling amazing though after my cut with O’Neil. He really is the best.

Ok off to go and collect my Mum and Dad from the airport after their little jaunt to Florida! Then the kids are home from school…for the summer!!!! YAY!

Outfit update!

I hope all you US based mamas had a fabulous Mother’s Day yesterday! I was greeted with lots of beautiful homemade banners and cards, a lot of thought had gone into them…well they both certainly know how to get on my good side!

mothers day Collage

It was a beautiful weekend here and we spent it 50:50 chores:fun! My Mum and Dad are visiting for a couple of weeks and arrive next Tuesday so I’m trying to get the house ship shape – which is challenging with 2 dogs and 2 kids…though Hugh has now realized that chores may be rewarded with dollars, so he is volunteering to do everything until he has enough money for a hover board! Later yesterday, once we had thoroughly exhausted all our desire to clean, I was treated to a lovely lunch at my favorite Mexican, with of course the obligatory margarita to wash it down with.

The summer clothes are now pretty much here to stay, and here are the outfits I wore over the weekend.

Big shoes!

By big shoes I mean chunky, platforms, flatforms, wedges and so on, not shoes that are too big for you! I love shoes – shoes and bags being my main indulgences. You can change an outfit in an instant with different shoes or a different bag. I’m no wall flower when it comes to shoes. I like big, brash, loud, outlandish shoes as much as I love a fabulous simple flat or elegant pump.

Yesterday I wore my Isabel Marant wedges. When I was back in London I was really surprised how many people were wearing them – I saw several on the street and Selfridges still sell them. I was fortunate enough to grab these on TheOutnet.com last year.

I love this espadrille flatform for the summer!

I adore Kurt Geiger shoes and they ship to the US. This pair is divine and Alex at The-Frugality.com owns them, there aren’t many sizes left though.

I am obsessing over these – the perfect white flatform for summer. Great with shorts or boyfriend jeans.

The Logan in khaki is in my bag – just debating the navy too – really don’t need more navy flatforms but the fabric is beautiful

I have this pair – called the Lizard – in black and snakeskin, last worn here. They are incredibly comfortable!

I also have this pair for summer that are in the sale, but be quick there’s only a couple of sizes left.

Flatforms are now so popular in fact, Kurt Geiger has a whole section on their site dedicated to them!

These have to be the most perfect, contemporary, beetle creepers that I have seen in a long time. Obsessed with them!

So lots to consider – now you just have to be willing to draw a little attention to your feet – and I warn you, not everyone loves them like me! 😉
