The dog days of summer

Mid August in Georgia is just miserable…moan, moan, moan…hot, humid and hot! Thank goodness for AC! Though the AC in the office blows snowballs so a jacket is still required for inside! Today I have just a quick outift catch up from this week – it’s been a busy one now we are back at school and normal work weeks have resumed. Oh and yes I’ve been learning to drive a manual car again – not too much gear crunching thankfully! I still love my GTI and I’ve just about figured out the radio and all the buttons!

My picks of the Shopbop F&F sale – last day today!

I LOVE Shopbop – I’ve mentioned them before. They do express shipping for Amazon prime and today is the last day of their Friends & Family sale – use code INTHEFAM for 25% off everything including sale items!

I recently bought my Soludos espadrilles from the Soludos site but they have them on Shopbop too – they are the most comfortable summer shoes ever and GREAT quality. If you’re in between sizes size up.

I have these gladiator sandals in tan and they are gorgeous – especially on sunkissed feet.

Sincerely, Jules first introduced me to this pair – they are gorgeous and perfect with boyfriend jeans. They also come in black here.

If you prefer a heel – how about these?

The other things to mention are the cargo pants I discussed the other day!

Just love these twill Current / Elliot pants with a slouchy, military-inspired profile. The crossover front is fabulous.

These utilitarian Etienne Marcel pants have a slouchy, cropped silhouette with distressing. I LOVE them.

Finishing with my favorite, which are very similar to the Zara pair I am wearing. These slouchy Citizens of Humanity pants have a military-inspired look with a button fly.

Enjoy the code – be careful you can get lost on Shopbop for hours – they also stock Golden Goose and fabulous denim…

Outfit round up

I hope you all had a lovely Easter weekend, and if you are in the UK that you are still enjoying your long weekend! We have had a lovely relaxing time – lots of family fun and good food!

On Thursday I headed out with some girlfriends for lunch.

Tippi CollageJeans – Zara (old) // Espadrilles – TopShop (old but similar here) // Jumper – J.Crew Tippi (several colors on sale here) // Bag – Stella McCartney Falabella

We don’t get Good Friday off here but it was still a treat to spend lunch with my husband before the kids got home from school. We only have a week left now before spring break and the beach beckons!

pinstripe CollageJacket – Mango // Boots – Chloé // Jeans – J.Crew // Bag – Proenza Schouler PS1 // Top – Mango (old but similar here)

On Saturday we hung out at home and then went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for lunch. I realized as I looked in the mirror that I was harking back to my days in Notting Hill and channeling the 90s – combat pants, camo and Air Max 95s!

camo CollageTrousers – The Gap (40% off with code PEEP) // Sneakers – Nike AirMax 95s // T-shirt – J.Crew (old) // Bomber jacket – TopShop

Today it’s back in the office, but as I mentioned just 5 days to go before we head to the Gulf Coast! We’re renting a house right on the beach again and the kids can’t wait to pack! We normally take a grill and cook on the beach all week – so much fun – so let’s pray that it stays dry and sunny!

Cargo pants

Yes! It’s the first day of spring today! It feels wonderful here in Atlanta though I have to admit March 20th seems to have arrived extremely quickly. We’ve just had an amazing weekend in Nashville where Poppy was competing in an AllStar Cheer competition so, after a long drive back yesterday, we’re having a lazy Sunday with a late lunch out at our favorite BBQ joint.

I happen to be wearing some of my favorite pants today – they are best described as a harem cargo pant. They were from Zara a couple of years ago and each time I wear them I wonder why I don’t wear them more often. They are really comfortable and the shoe choice is endless. They are easy to dress up or down and wear day to evening. I think they are the perfect spring trouser – lighter weight than jeans and they pair perfectly with flip flops and sandals.

Here are my picks from lower end high street to high end designer.

In the US The Gap is currently offering 2 day free shipping PLUS 40% off using code FASTBUNNY. I have just ordered these tencel joggers, they also come in navy and black.

Not cargo pants, but the color is similar at least – I need to throw this jumpsuit in the mix. I have it and adore it and with the 40% off right now it would be foolish to miss out. I love it for traveling in and it is also available in grey and black.

I love how louche these girlfriend chinos look – perfect paired with sun bleached espadrilles. They are wonderfully soft too.

Going now with the current trend of the crop kick flare. Sometimes I can’t be faffed with rolling up my pants – or my OCD gets the better of me and I spend far too long rolling and unrolling to get each leg even! These would save me hours over a year 🙂

Now onto Mango – so many choices with these being my absolute favorite – a great length and I LOVE the pockets and the wide leg.

cotton cargos

Now I admit I would style these differently but with simple leather flip flops and a plain white tank I think these would be the perfect vacation trouser.

cargo palazzo pants

These are more of a culotte and I love the tie waistband.

If you have never used Shopbop.com I urge you to check them out. You can check out with your Amazon Prime membership and get free speedy delivery, plus free returns and they offer a huge variety of brands.

These utilitarian Etienne Marcel pants have a slouchy, cropped silhouette with distressing. I LOVE them.

This pair is cuffed at the ankle if you prefer less harem and more jogger style of pant. They are the NSF cargo pants with a hint of fading.

Another cuffed version from Velvet, with a tie waist – comfort and style.

These slouchy Faith Connexion cargo pants in classic camo are fabulous, in the sale and still really pricey!!

While we are talking about cargo pants I want to share these fab leather flip flops from The Gap. I love wearing a very simple sandal with cargos, but sometimes a rubber flip flop is just too casual. These flip flops are available in silver, gold, tan, black, blue and pink. I love them all.

So here I am today on a chillier than desired first day of spring!

More khaki

Khaki is having a moment this season and it wasn’t till I started looking in my closet that I realized how much khaki I actually already own. It’s a great color that suits fair and darker complexions. I particularly love a khaki trouser – like a loose cargo pant. These were an absolute bargain from J.Crew and I love the knitted cuff on them.

khaki trousers and newbury bootsBoots – Rag & Bone Newbury boots // Trouser – J.Crew (on sale plus extra 30% off with TIMETOSHOP) // Tee – J.Crew (30% off with TIMETOSHOP)

There are lots of midseason sales on currently including AllSaints, Zara and Mango and my favorite spring top is included in Mango’s reductions. Enjoy!

Green and tan.

I’m loving having nothing to do.  Right now I’m sitting drinking a delicious coffee while the kids are sweeping out the garage – and they’re giggling while they do it!  Perfect!  Radio 2 is blasting out Maroon 5, the sun is out and we’re off to the park shortly to practice riding bikes without training wheels – let’s hope that doesn’t start any tears of frustration from the children or the grown ups!

I have a lot of khaki in my closet and I’m really enjoying wearing my fatigues:)  These are the Zara skinny cargo pants that are lovely and soft and really comfortable.  I’ve layered a Zara khaki t-shirt under an H&M square cut grey sweater.  The camouflage scarf is also Zara and it is so soft and snuggly – my local store resembles an army supply store right now!  The jacket is the Boden leather jacket, from a Spring 2011 I think – I love this color and the leather is so soft – it also coordinates perfectly with my Ash Bowie sneakers.

Zara may have a lot of khaki right now but they are now starting to get their new items in store and online.  I’ve got my eye on this tartan suit – and yes I would wear it as a suit, with my new black Dickers – more on those later:)

This coat is also on my radar – I love it.

Look out for their color blocking too – especially in black and white – it’s stunning – really eye catching.

Back to school!

So we were out there at 6.40am this morning in the dark, waiting for the bus for 1st grade!  Fortunately Poppy was very excited and so wasn’t too grumpy at the early morning routine but gosh I’m certainly not used to it!  Did not appreciate the 5.45am alarm bell this morning.  Of course the bus was late so goodness knows what time she will actually be delivered home today – a bit chaotic with a new bus driver and new bus routes this year.

Hugh has started pre-K too so a big day for us all.  To celebrate the start of a new school year we took them out for lunch yesterday.  Now I have to say we took them to one of my favorite lunch locations – Pizze Fritte – and yes Poppy doesn’t like pizza – so I guess it was a tad unfair, but I also claimed the lunch as my early birthday lunch before Friday – hence the 2 glasses of prosecco…at least Poppy enjoyed her fries:) I wore my Zara butterfly top and blue pants, which can’t be seen here but needless to say I felt very colorful!  Notice how they put families with noisy children in the far corner away from the other patrons…or maybe that table is saved for families with noisy mothers?

This week is hopefully our last week of work at the house…just a few loose ends to finish up and cleaning to do – so bear with me while my morning photos are still so dark and grainy – hopefully next week we’ll be back up in our beautiful, bright bedroom thanks to our new windows!

Today I’m wearing my fab Zara cargo pants, pink Zara linen t-shirt from the sale, AllSaints Itat shrug and Tory Burch pink Eddie flats.  Feeling very comfy on a drizzly Atlanta day.

School open house…

I’m grumpy.  Have a miserable cold and I was in bed at 7pm last night dosed up with NyQuil.  Head feels stuffed with cotton wool and I am warm and feel fuzzy – but not the good warm and fuzzy:(  This morning should have been more fun than it was.  We headed off to the elementary school for our open morning to get ready for Monday when term starts.  Last year I was hungover after my 40th – not good for meeting your kindergarten teacher for the first time – this year my senses were dulled due to cold medication…Not ideal for being bubbly and chatty and trying to remember parents’ names from the last time you met them.  I’m sure they must all think I’m weird by now.

Plus I’ve been dealing with the transportation department for our school district.  Lots of issues regarding bus drivers, times and routes – and somehow I managed to be volunteered as ‘bus mom’ for this year.  I’ll be passing that baton on next year for sure:)  So 20 or so calls placed with the Superintendent and the Director of transportation and guess how many returned calls – yup – zero.  Useless.  Not looking forward to that 6.44am bus stop on Monday.

Also Hugh is off today for ‘teacher work day’ so I am parenting 2 hyper children, solo, with a cold…brilliant.  Tempted to sit them in front of Disney all day while I drown my sorrows online shopping…but no supermom here has agreed to take them to the pool…madness, sheer utter insanity – someone cart me away now.

Anyway tried to dress the part of the uber cool, urban mom this morning and probably ended up looking like mutton though I did the mutton test with MM and he passed me.  Anyway as I said all the other parents probably think I’m weird anyway by now:)  So I am wearing my favorite Zara cargo pants and a Zara top bought in the sale, with Tory Burch black patent Eddie flats and a necklace from H&M.

Wish me luck at the pool!:)
