Red leather and camo.

The sun is out and I just had a great spin class – I feel full of the joys of Spring today.  It’s early release from school so I am taking my wee ones for hair cuts, and frozen yogurt if we make it through the hair cut unscathed!

The title says it all for my outfit today – and there are insufficient words (at least in my limited vocabulary) to express my love for this jacket.  It’s now sold out online in M and L so I am glad I acted when I did!

Leather.

I am getting so excited about my trip ‘home’ next week.  Yes I’ll miss MM and the kids – but that is what Skype is for no?  I’m still in a packing quandary but I see light at the end of the tunnel – now if it was sunlight not the threat of snow that would make things 10x easier.  But hey ho it is England and nothing is more certain than the uncertainty of British weather.

I was picking up a few things for friends and family yesterday.  One of the most requested items funnily enough is nail polish.  OPI is half the price here.  Mum wants A-to-Zurich and Sue wants Nein Nein Nein.  I’ve been 50% successful – will keep looking Mum!  Now, if I rate shopping for myself, I was 100% successful and I got myself a new favorite polish.  I like nudes but some of them make my yellowy skin tone just looked so washed out when I haven’t had any sun.  I found this one – My Very First Knockwurst – it’s a lovely grey nude and as ever it goes on beautifully.  Still need to sort out my cuticles though – this darn weather plays havoc with my hands!

It was a tad dreary this morning – and I wanted to wear a snuggly knit.  Also, I have decided that my AllSaints leather trousers need to be worn for everyday wear too – they were being saved for ‘best’ and therefore hardly worn.  They are actually really comfy and warm – I love them with sneakers and a jumper.  The Boden sparkle Skye jumper is perfect – and there are still quite a few of the regular versions in the clearance.  You might want to size down if between sizes though as the fit is loose.  I’m wearing it over a Forever21 color blocked top – mainly because it was close at hand this morning.  Of course the sneakers are the Ash Alex.  Sorry about the raindrops on film – not sure I had the right exposure considering how dark it was!

Local weather report.

I hate to sound like an amateur meteorologist, but the weather is throwing a spanner in the works.  Remembering it is still early January – this weekend it was 76 degrees Fahrenheit here!  Unseasonable to say the least.  Today it’s in the high 50s and chucking it down.  A flexible approach to wardrobe planning is required!

It turned out to be quite a sporting weekend in our household.  After my great night out on Friday, Saturday was spent sitting in a warm, steamy swimming pool watching my daughter compete – I was a tad dehydrated it has to be said.  Sunday was then spent cheering on the Atlanta Falcons as they won their play-off game – it was a nail biter and now we just have to face the 49ers to make it to the Superbowl!  So it was a weekend that required little thought regarding attire and I will admit I spent it in slouchy sweatpants – lovely.

Today I’ve gone for the jacket and t-shirt again.  The blazer is the fabulous Zara tartan jacket – I love this and it fits perfectly.  I feel really sharp in it.  The t-shirt is a $14 Forever 21 bargain.  Yes their tees are all synthetic but they are actually really soft and drapey – perfect under a blazer.  Jeans are the Hudson Collin skinnies, belt is Gucci and the sneakers are the Ash Gwen – perfect for a rainy day.

How was your weekend?

Tinsel and Twine.

Yesterday was so festive!  After taking Hugh for his haircut, which according to Poppy took ‘soooo loooonnng’, we headed to the Westside Provisions District just down the road from us.  We’re so lucky to live near this area.  When we first arrived in Atlanta the Westside was home to Atlanta’s finest restaurant – Bacchanalia, with it’s store front Star Provisions, – but that was about it.  It is an area of old lofts right next to water works, but with Bacchanalia as it’s cornerstone and fabulous views of downtown Atlanta, it has been revived and invigorated by new stores and restaurants.  It’s where I feel most at home in Atlanta as it reminds me so much of Spitalfields, our home back in London, which was once neglected and now has had almost too much investment in recent years.

Anyway yesterday the Westside hosted ‘Tinsel and Twine‘ with Santa, a capella singers, and just a general festive theme.  We had lunch at Taqueria del Sol and I was thrilled that both children ate chicken tacos – yay more Mexican eateries for us:)

The usual shenanigans at the dinner table:

Poppy and Hugh were enthralled by the singers:

I wore my festive colors (unintentional I have to say) – the coated trousers are H&M, paired with a long line tank, also H&M, layered under the AllSaints Char jumper (this is the closest I could find though mine isn’t cropped).  The scarf is Zara and the sneakers are the Ash Alex.

Here’s me trying to get MM to take a quick photo, as people crossing the bridge wait impatiently!:

In the evening MM and I went back to the Westside for a bite to eat before heading off to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra to listen to Handel’s Messiah.  The tickets were a lovely surprise from MM in the lead up to Christmas.  All I can say is amazing.  I blubbed my way through much of it.  I feel like I’m still teetering on the brink of a meltdown after the events of Friday.  Many of those children were born in 2006, like Poppy, and it has really hit me hard.  It felt good to shed some tears for all those grieving parents and say a little prayer while listening to some moving music.

I managed to persuade MM to take a photo of me – I didn’t get the memo about wearing red and black – EVERYONE else was in their festive colors!  I wore my Dorothy Perkins coated jeggings – these are the most amazing, sexy feeling leggings and are currently reduced to $29.  The sleeveless top is H&M, worn with my Zara jacket and Nine West Blissfully shoes (currently reduced here on Zappos.com) – the bag is the YSL Roady – we were in such a hurry to get out once the babysitter arrived that I didn’t have chance to downsize!

How are you all getting in the festive spirit?

Green and tan.

I’m loving having nothing to do.  Right now I’m sitting drinking a delicious coffee while the kids are sweeping out the garage – and they’re giggling while they do it!  Perfect!  Radio 2 is blasting out Maroon 5, the sun is out and we’re off to the park shortly to practice riding bikes without training wheels – let’s hope that doesn’t start any tears of frustration from the children or the grown ups!

I have a lot of khaki in my closet and I’m really enjoying wearing my fatigues:)  These are the Zara skinny cargo pants that are lovely and soft and really comfortable.  I’ve layered a Zara khaki t-shirt under an H&M square cut grey sweater.  The camouflage scarf is also Zara and it is so soft and snuggly – my local store resembles an army supply store right now!  The jacket is the Boden leather jacket, from a Spring 2011 I think – I love this color and the leather is so soft – it also coordinates perfectly with my Ash Bowie sneakers.

Zara may have a lot of khaki right now but they are now starting to get their new items in store and online.  I’ve got my eye on this tartan suit – and yes I would wear it as a suit, with my new black Dickers – more on those later:)

This coat is also on my radar – I love it.

Look out for their color blocking too – especially in black and white – it’s stunning – really eye catching.
