Espadrilles – the must have summer shoe

In recent years I have become more and more aware of the need for comfort in the heat. A month in the Mediterranean each year, plus at least 6 months of 70 degrees Fahrenheit necessitate comfy, cool feet. I love my flat simple sandals, but there are still times a girl needs some good heels. Espadrilles fit the bill perfectly for height and comfort – and the added practicality of a wedge means you can glide along the lawn at those summer gatherings.

My favorites at this time include these classic Castañers. The tomato red pair are just perfection with a crisp cotton white dress and brown legs.

I love this nude taupe pair and the slight platform is perfect – these will look hot as hell with denim shorts and a white shirt.

I’ve ordered this denim pair – I love the fringing and I think they will look great with a bright t-shirt and a pair of my J Brand Selena crops.

Kurt Geiger are another high end option – here in the US they are even more – why can’t brands just use the exchange rate?! Having said that these are so unique that they might be worth the extra $$$. The Mimi in snake skin is gorgeous and they also come in a gold glitter which will be great for a high summer party.

Yellow has to be the color of the season and these are beautiful for some eye catching footwear. They also come in snakeskin or black.

This pair are my absolute favorite. Monochrome and fluorescent pom poms!

For those of you in the UK you may already be aware that Kurt Geiger now sell Vince Camuto – a brand I have bought on several occasions here. These platforms are lovely.

TheOutnet.com is well worth a good browse on a Sunday evening. Soludos is a brand that I have worn regularly is and promoted by many bloggers including Sincerely Jules. I have a couple of pairs of their smoking slippers that I love. Right now there’s an abundance of the brand on TheOutnet.com heavily discounted.

This leather pair is beautiful and reduced by 50%.

These are reduced to just $60.

I ordered this pair last night – I love the pink and orange together. Again reduced by almost 50%.

Others that caught my eye on TheOutnet.com include these by Tory Burch. What a perfect color for summer and these are leather. Discounted by 55%.

These are by Iris and Ink – TheOutnet’s own brand – I really love the red but they also come in brown.

These are a bit of a curve ball but I bloody love them! For some reason I think they would be a great travel shoe – I know that sounds daft/pretentious having shoes for traveling – but take it from me you need flats, easy on and off, and stylish shoes for that jet-setting lifestyle 🙂 The Rag & Bone Gena espadrille.

I hit The Gap after seeing Fran wear these on Instagram – they are a lovely shade of pink.

Also available in khaki.

These white eyelet espadrilles are really pretty and feminine. Keeping them clean might be a b*tch but thats where clorox gel pens come in handy!

The gold open toe espadrilles are great and a lovely price.

Finally always check out Nordstrom Rack and Neiman Marcus Last Call – they have amazing brands appearing all the time and can give TheOutnet.com a run for their money.

Oh and these – yes I love these – I know many of you will hate them – but hey that’s what makes fashion fun!!

We had a lovely family day today – out for a lunch of burgers and ice cream. Unfortunately I am having real trouble moving after 30 laps in the pool yesterday. Seriously getting dressed was a real problem this morning 😉 That’ll teach me to work out.

Big knits

I love nothing more (OK, maybe boots) than a big chunky knit. Again it’s probably genetics – growing up in the North West of the UK and then 5 years in St. Andrews meant they were a required staple in the closet. You could NEVER have enough big cardigans or chunky sweaters. They aren’t needed quite so much in the balmy climate of Atlanta, but that doesn’t stop me investing in a 3-4 new ones each November. Needless to say I have way more chunky knits than a girl in Atlanta really needs. Is it going to stop me? Of course not! That vacation to the North Pole may happen one year, not to mention that Arctic plunge that seems to happen earlier each year, even if it does only last a week or so!

With the above images from Pinterest as inspiration here are some of my favorites available this season.

This oversized cardigan from ASOS is a great shape and price.

Asos oversized cardigan

I love this neutral color block cardigan – it’s even blocked on the inside too – really different yet easy to wear.

asos-colorblock-cardigan

This is a perfect slouchy cardigan – equally easy to wear slobbing on the sofa or out in the pub.

Absolutely love the length of this New Look ribbed cardigan.

H&M is always a favorite of mine for great knits at a great price. They do oversize very well too.

This is the dress I am wearing below – I’ve worn it all day and it is SO comfortable and soft. I have a medium so it is pretty generous. Love this light grey color but the darker version is fabulous too for wearing with opaque tights.

I just love this sweater. The green is my kind of green – in fact I got a mohair cardigan in this color last year which I must dig out.

green-mohair

This deep green is one of my favorite winter colors. Not in your face but definitely some color that can be worn easily with black or grey denim. The sweater is also available in 3 other colors – it’s a great winter staple.

oversize-green-mohair

This long sweater can probably be worn as a dress by some of you but I really love the idea of it over distressed denim skinnies.

I love grey and I love a polo neck, so yes I kinda like this one a lot. It’s also available in blue and black.

ribbed-turtleneck

I love the neckline on this sweater – a great price too at $34.99 and it is available in 4 colors.

& Other Stories is another great source of sweaters – H&M’s more grown up sibling. Slightly pricier but fabulous quality.

This red berry sweater is the one I am wearing below. It is also available in the grey shown. Use FRIENDS in the USA for a 10% discount on a new account. I have the medium – it is hugely oversized – the large drowned me. I can’t wait to wear mine with pleather skinnies.

I have this green cardigan too. I love the belt – it gives great shape – but it looks equally good unfastened. Perfect over a grey t-shirt with black skinny jeans.

This oversized, sparkle sweater is on my list. I love it – simple, but a little special.

Err this might me on my list too – I love the graduated sparkle.

I have this one – it’s shorter than others so I opted for a large. A great knit in a great pattern.

& Other Stories Jacquard sweater

This cardigan is available in grey and 3 other colors which are sold out here online. The perfect length.

The shape of this wool blend cardigan is perfect – again great for both in the house and off out down the pub on a cold night!

My Husband is currently in London and has texted me numerous times complaining about the BITTER cold. I am SO jealous – I can’t wait to actually NEED to wear a big jumper – it’s still loitering in the low 60s here but I’m going for it nonetheless! And here just to prove I really can’t wait to get the big knits out, here are my outfits over the past 3 days!

Big shoes!

By big shoes I mean chunky, platforms, flatforms, wedges and so on, not shoes that are too big for you! I love shoes – shoes and bags being my main indulgences. You can change an outfit in an instant with different shoes or a different bag. I’m no wall flower when it comes to shoes. I like big, brash, loud, outlandish shoes as much as I love a fabulous simple flat or elegant pump.

Yesterday I wore my Isabel Marant wedges. When I was back in London I was really surprised how many people were wearing them – I saw several on the street and Selfridges still sell them. I was fortunate enough to grab these on TheOutnet.com last year.

Today I am in my Zara flatforms. They aren’t leather but they are really comfortable and a fabulous Prada tribute!

I’ve found similar flatforms for you here at Mango

I love this espadrille flatform for the summer!

I adore Kurt Geiger shoes and they ship to the US. This pair is divine and Alex at The-Frugality.com owns them, there aren’t many sizes left though.

I am obsessing over these – the perfect white flatform for summer. Great with shorts or boyfriend jeans.

The Logan in khaki is in my bag – just debating the navy too – really don’t need more navy flatforms but the fabric is beautiful

I have this pair – called the Lizard – in black and snakeskin, last worn here. They are incredibly comfortable!

I also have this pair for summer that are in the sale, but be quick there’s only a couple of sizes left.

Flatforms are now so popular in fact, Kurt Geiger has a whole section on their site dedicated to them!

These have to be the most perfect, contemporary, beetle creepers that I have seen in a long time. Obsessed with them!

So lots to consider – now you just have to be willing to draw a little attention to your feet – and I warn you, not everyone loves them like me! 😉

The humble sweatshirt

Where would we be without the sweatshirt? In recent years it has morphed from athletic wear to day wear to going out wear – that even allows you to share opinions with motifs and messages. Personally I prefer a simple sweatshirt with no graphics, although I do own a couple of motif sweatshirts. They are perfect for layering, or just throwing on when you lack inspiration. The sweatshirt can be worn with anything from denim shorts and jeans through to leather trousers and skirts, and you can’t beat a simple grey sweatshirt paired with sequin leggings.

First up some exciting news from H&M – a fabulous source for sweatshirts. There is up to 60% off online today PLUS the US can now return online purchases in store!!! Hooray!!! At last! Previously we have had to mail them back and were consequently charged a restocking fee – so I am thrilled now we have the option of returning in store.

The sweatshirt I am wearing today is H&M and I love it – it is really substantial and the quality is great. I think I paid around $30 for it. I sized up too as I can’t stand tight fitting sweatshirts! For me they have to be slouchy and oversized.

I love this one with the zip detail – slightly cropped too and perfect for layering.

The lacing detail on this one gives it a unique twist.

This one is very similar to mine, it may even be the same and is just $24.99 – it comes in pale pink and black too.

This little number is currently just $5.99 in the grey and $9.99 in other colors!!!

Rebecca has this red sweatshirt and I love the washed red – it is currently reduced to $9.99 with all sizes available.

Now if you are in the UK you are probably aware of Selfish Mother. They are committed to genuine sustainability through their supply chain. Their tees and sweatshirts are made at a Fair Wear Foundation certified factory in Bangladesh, which means it is vetted for good working conditions and fair wages. The designs are all screen-printed in London and each different design contributes profits to a different charity. They ship to the US too.

Purchasing the Maman sweatshirt contributes to Help Refugees UK. £10 from every MAMAN tee and £15 from every MAMAN sweatshirt will go to support this cause.

I love the logo on this one – so appropriate for me 😉 All profits* from sales of WINGING IT designs go to KIDS CHARITY UK, who do amazing work with disabled children and their families. KIDS not only helps young people age 0-25 but also the people caring for them on a daily basis More info here. *When they say ‘all profits’ this means £15 from the sale of each sweat going straight to help others!

This is the version I own – I did say I had a motif sweatshirt in there somewhere! All profits* from sales of Mother designs go to Women for Women International – an charity that helps women in 8 war-torn regions rebuild their lives through training programs. More info here.  *When they say ‘all profits’ this means £15 from the sale of each sweat going straight to help others!

Now Zara have some fun offerings this season – though they may be causing a little trouble with this Elle Macpherson sweat – it is very similar to Reformation’s Cindy Crawford sweatshirt that retailed for $118!

I love this oversized motif sweatshirt which is available in other colors too.

Mango of course have some great options to choose from – plain or graphic. These are my picks.

I need one of each color in this sweatshirt with motivational quotes!

Mango perfect sweathsirt

I love the shape of this one and the fact it doesn’t have cuffs.

If you quite like the idea of a motif, but not emblazoned across your chest, this is a great alternative. It comes in white and black too with different copy.

Mango message sweatshirt

I adore the lower neckline on this and the slight pleating at the sides. Perfect for layering and the grey is also gorgeous.

Mango cotton sweatshirt

I love the lace detail on this one and it is currently 35% off.

Here they are going with the Bella Freud year thing – at some point I will find a 1971 version – I can’t bring myself to wear one that isn’t my birth year!

Now finally TheOutnet.com who have several items on clearance too right now, including this Zoe Karssen number which is just $25! I’m tempted to buy it even to sleep in at 80% off!
