Playsuits.

It’s hot and sunny here, and Spring Break next week, so my thoughts have turned to all things short.  Quite literally.  I have been obsessing over playsuits.  Yes the name conjures all sorts of images from babies in onesies to some very questionable attire indeed.  I, as you know, rightly or wrongly, tend not to follow any fashion code or rules based on age (as an aside Frank Skinner blew my mind yesterday on BBC Radio 2 saying ‘denim should only be seen next to young skin’).  I wear what I feel comfortable, confident or even sexy in…and I will continue to do so till my time is up.  As I love my legs (yes go on you can be proud of your body instead of criticizing it all the time!) I love to wear shorts.  Combine my love of shorts with my love of jumpsuits and hey presto – the playsuit!

Marks and Spencer are just rocking my world right now.  I have ordered the white draped playsuit seen on Rita Ora here.  It’ll will look fabulous with my canvas Newburys or Ancient Greek Sandals.

These other playsuits from M&S are perfect beach attire for vacation.  This tribal print is my favorite.

These simple playsuits are great for beach to bar and are great prices – the black at £22.50 and the floral at £25.

For something a little dressier this Lavish Alice playsuit is stunning.

So my only caveat is make sure a playsuit fits properly – it can’t be too tight or too short – and I prefer not to wear them with court shoes – I do think a flat or a boot balances out the flesh on show.

As for my outfits recently here’s one from last week pre-haircut and pre-soaring temperatures.

Poncho – Oak // Long sleeved tee – AllSaints (old) // Jeans – Boden // Boots – Black leather Rag & Bone Newbury boots

I love this OAK poncho – especially as I can wear it for Jedi training…

Then for this week as the sun has made an appearance so have some sandals along with my legs…

Jeans – Zara TRF // Sandals – Pons Avarcas in Berry // T-Shirt – J. Crew (25% off with SHOPNOW) // Jacket – Gap (old)

Boots – Rag & Bone Newbury (old – bought off TheOutnet.com last year) // Dress – Pia dress AllSaints

My Husband says my smile is broader and happier with my new hair:)

Can you hear that? That’s me eating my words – those boots LOOK AMAZING and yet I was the first (privately) to say ‘each to their own’!

I can’t believe you’ve gone from winter’d up to warm!

We are the same and today it was 22 degrees in the UK!

Ha ha – better on than off hey? They are quite striking – I love them. Yes we have no transition here straight from frigid to 80!

I love the new hair cut Joanna. I wasn’t sure at first as I really liked your’ ‘grown out’ look. I love everything in the distressed jeans outfit. I will have to try a playsuit but I am such a wimp and would, probably, keep it for my holidays. H xx

Get some spray tan on and give it a whirl – I love the M&S ivory one as the longer sleeves mean you won’t feel too exposed…x

You absolutely should play up your best assets!

And how many pairs of Avarcas have you got now??? Lovely colour though – big envy.

I love the shade of your Avarcas – it’s such a beautiful colour, I can’t stop looking at them. I adore play suits too (I’ve been preparing a post on them and the Lavish Alice one is on there too – so lovely) Lovely outfits and so pleased you’re so happy with your new hair – it looks fabulous!

Aren’t they fab!? Great with other bright colors too…can’t wait to see which playsuits you’ve found there are so many great ones out there at the moment – I’m struggling with the choice!

Need to get out running again and tone them up a bit – but I love getting the legs on show in spring – it’s so freeing!

Hello, I am considering the J Crew camo sweatshirt you wore in the last post, could you please tell me how it fits for size. I’m a standard UK10 (e.g. would choose UK10 at M&S as I know you know their sizing too!). I would instictively go for the small but don’t want it too slim fitting and it doesn’t look generous online. many thanks

Hi Vikki – it’s not as generous as most of J.Crew – I have just bought small in 2 t-shirts – but the sweatshirt is a medium. I am a UK 12 but big busted so even the medium is more fitted than I usual buy in a sweatshirt. It’s quite short too so I would definitely go for the Medium – hope that helps!

The tribal one is great isn’t it – I think with a strapless bra it will look great but could also be worn as a beach cover up over a bikini…tempted…sorely tempted…

If I had smaller boobs I’d buy the Lavish Alice one in a heartbeat – problem is what fits up top doesn’t always fit at the bottom half – always an issue I have with dresses and jumpsuits…x

They are fab aren’t they – some skeptics at first but I love them with a simple outfit or denim.

Joanna thank you so much for the fellow M&S appreciation over on my bog – I’ve just had to hunt down your playsuit post. Oh my gosh I am so with you – the white one is lush!

I can’t wait to see how you will style these and I have to say you are such a great fashion Ambassador, you always look confident and fantastic and that is such an inspiration.

Of course as a fellow shortie I always love your hair x

I’ve sneaked ANOTHER M&S outfit (well strictly speaking bag) onto Ave 57 today – I hid this most recent purchase in the airing cupboard from my hubbie 😉

It’s so funny what you wrote about Moorgate too!! I used to work on Fenchurch St and live in Spitalfields so I would often pop in the one near Leadenhall on my way to work – I’s spent my salary before I earned it! You couldn’t beat their suits! xx
