Overalls or dungarees?

Festival time is here – whether it’s a music festival or a fun neighborhood festival (we have many here in Atlanta), it’s time to dig out the festival clothes. Dungarees are a perennial favorite. Comfort, style and versatility make them my choice. Admittedly for the larger chested of us, they can be problematic, but I have discovered a great pair from H&M with thinner straps and a looser fit that seem to work well. I like to wear dungarees as simply as possible with a plain t-shirt and sneakers or espadrilles. I’m definitely a proponent of the dressed down dungaree look as opposed to the dressed up look – though I did try them with heels back here and here – I was a very early adopter of dungarees!

H&M are a great source of overalls – though be warned the sizing varies drastically! Some are teeny tiny and others need a size down. I think the pair I am wearing today are true to size – with a looser fit.

I also have this pair in a medium – they are sold out here online but check out stores – they are gorgeous and a great boyfriend fit.

I tried this cropped pair on in London and they are small fitting – I probably sized up 2 sizes! Having said that ignore the size on the label – they are gorgeous.

Again a pair that are unfortunately oos online – but I love the fit and flare cut of these.

Gap have a very similar style here. They are now on sale with an extra 35% off here in the US using code STYLE – certainly worth a punt!

I’m also smitten with this style – I love Gap’s denim. These are an online exclusive – with 35% off using STYLE.

Finally another of my favorite stores for denim – Madewell. I just love this skinny cut and they get rave reviews.

Here I am today in dress down comfort. My new Primark jacket also gets it’s first outing – thank you so much for sending Sue!! I’ve cut the label off the sleeve now after leaving it on all morning much to the amusement of my Husband!

I’ve seen two beautiful ladies wear this top in blue this week – Frances and Dresslikeamum. It’s still not hit the US website BUT the yellow and white have. If you’re darker like me I think both colors will look great! Personally I think the cobalt is beautiful but best left to the blondes!

I also LOVE these dungarees. I’ve been searching for a more boyfriend/slouchy fit pair for some time and these look perfect. I also like the thinner straps – more flattering on a larger bust.

Finally these are sitting in my basket. I love white jeans all year round – especially distressed ones for wearing with a pretty top. These look lovely and high waisted too.

Last of the summer purchases

It’s Labor Day weekend here and unofficially the end of summer. However, our climate means we will be wearing shorts well into October. This means I can take advantage of some of the current end of season sales and wear what I buy instead of stashing it away to be forgotten about till next summer.

Top on my list were some new dungarees. I love wearing them over a tank in the Fall and they are a great transition piece.

This wide leg pair are on sale at ASOS and reduced to $33. I am going to patch up the rip at the top with an iron on denim patch (these are fabulous!). Who thought that a rip there was a good idea?

I love the frayed ankles on these – it says they are full length but maybe on someone less than 5’4″. I love the tapered leg that will look great with hi-tops. Also on sale here.

I’ve admired this maxi dress all season. It will work well with sandals and ankle boots as we move into cooler weather. Add a denim jacket on top for a full on Fall boho vibe. It’s now half price and available here on the Mango site or here on ASOS. Amazon also sell Mango (I think they must distribute for them in the US) so check out the stock here too.

Our AC decided to pack in on the hottest weekend of the year so far. Needless to say we spent all our time by the pool cooling down and then in comfy cool clothes at home. We had to go underground and relax in our tv room in the basement – we have lots of windows on our main floor and it was like a furnace! Blow drying my hair this morning was no fun – thank goodness for the cool blast button!

Overalls and Gucci loafers

You know me and my shoe collection…of all my purchases my shoes are my most indulgent. As I’ve said many times previously your shoes will love you regardless of those few extra vacation pounds, or that pizza and wine last night, so when I feel like a pick-me-up the best way to do it is with a pair of fabulous shoes!

Today I have taken inspiration from this image, that I first saw in Grazia, of Mytheresa.com Senior Fashion Editor Veronika Heilbrunner.

I love the simplicity of the outfit which means my eyes are immediately drawn to her shoes! So here is my interpretation today, with the same black Gucci loafers, only with black dungarees and the addition of a jacket – spring seems to have done a runner here this week.

Can’t get it out of my head

Sometimes, in fact mostly, Pinterest can be deadly. As I was watching Mad Men last night I was surfing Pinterest looking for some denim inspiration – i.e. images to help me style pieces that I ALREADY have. Damn Pinterest, I fell in love with this image.

It’s an image from J.Crew – and I already have the trousers – but I LOVE the shirt. Light denim, boxy and short sleeves. Can I find it anywhere? – No of course not – and I now NEED it.

Thanks to a call I put out on Twitter and Instagram I have found two that are very similar and may meet my ‘needs’. I’ve ordered both to compare and contrast…you know how dangerous that is…

The first is from Everlane. Super simple, gorgeous shape, great price and guaranteed great quality. I love this as it doesn’t have pockets on it. Thanks to Rebecca for helping me find it!

It also comes in a light denim.

The second is from Mango – the soft pocket shirt. I love this one because of the pockets and I love the collar, or lack of collar. Thanks to Eve for helping me find this one!

So both are on their way – which one do you prefer? I’ll show and tell as soon as they arrive, and please do let me know if you see anything else similar! I have a bee in my bonnet now!

…for the comments! The dungarees have entertained several already today. As I walked into the office MM thought it was hilarious when he showed me where the plumbing was under the sink – in fact he’s just walked out telling me the ‘chickens need feeding’…oh my sides are splitting – what a funny guy.

After Fiona ‘outed’ me a week or so ago I knew I couldn’t wait much longer before giving them their first public appearance. To clarify – I LOVE them. I know they’ve been featured on several blogs, and they have been the subject of many fashion articles recently, but I will say I was wearing them way back in 1998 – that’s how ahead of the trend I am:) I wore a short pair all through my honeymoon in Cyprus – dead sexy! Aside from being totally on trend right now, I find them super comfortable – jeans with no waistband – perfect!

Will you or won’t you dungaree this summer?

…And for those doubters out there I discovered they are great for keeping hands warm…
