Firstly thank you for all your emails and comments regarding the haircut. Short hair can be polarizing at the best of times – never mind when it it is as short or severe as mine currently is! So it’s reassuring to hear so many positive views – thank you! For those that asked here are my Ginnifer Goodwin inspiration photos that I took to my hairdresser. I think she looks amazing with short hair!
So when sporting a severe, short chop it is risky territory starting a blogpost with ‘Menswear’ as the title. Personally I think it can be done if you keep the colors feminine and the make-up soft as I have here. I have wanted a pair of Oxfords/Brogues for sometime, and after Kat highlighted the Clarks Hamble Oak in nude, I picked a pair up while I was back in the UK. Much cheaper than the Boden version I’d been eyeing (though I do still love the off white version), and they are incredibly comfortable worn without socks – they do fit big in my opinion – I’m normally a UK 6 and these are a 5 1/2.
Here are some of my favorite looks with Oxfords (although all of them have long hair darn it!). The key for me is to keep the ankles on show, which again helps to keep the look a bit more feminine.
Sienna Miller:
Jessica Alba:
Jessica Biel:
And of course the Queen of oxfords – Alexa Chung – I LOVE this look:
And here is my interpretation today:
Trousers – J.Crew Café Capri in Jade (bought in sale) // Shirt – J.Crew gingham boyfriend shirt // Shoes – Clarks Hamble Oak // Jacket – Boden jersey blazer (old)
Love the new haircut and the shoes look great – think I might go investigate something similar, I work in a hospital so need close-toed shoes but sometimes fancy wearing something alternative to trainers that still give a bit of support to the foot!! Tried wearing ballet flats to work but although they look cute my knees paid for it later in the evening – a sign of aging no doubt!!
The shoes are great – I just wish Clarks had the same range available over here as in the UK! They’re a bit fuddy duddy here – I’d love to be able to get my hands on the Mary Portas range more easily.
The hair is very Ginnifer – your hairdresser deserves a big tip. And I like the styling today – it has a little retro mens fifties about it. And the last picture with all the colours and the green grass underfoot is lovely. So springlike – stop rubbing it in!!! I’ve got snow here!
I was eyeing up a pair of the Temperley brogues. They have my name all over them.
He sees me every 5 weeks so does pretty well out of me – I told him I need a chair with my name on it:) I love the brogues and loved the outfit when I was piecing it together but it’s just not me – I felt ‘off’ all day! Not sure I can do ‘preppy’:)
My sister was home from Boston last weekend and bought the Clarks brogues, but in the ‘greige’ colour. They look fab. Not sure it’s a look I could pull off though .. but never say never!!!
I bet you could with boyfriend jeans – but I like you in skinnies – and of course the Ash Genial will be perfect with them:) I didn’t really feel this outfit – but it’s good to experiment!
