An evening with Garbage and Blondie

My birthday celebrations began last night with a trip to Chastain Park Amphitheater to watch Garbage and Blondie. It’s an open air venue in the heart of Buckhead, Atlanta – and VERY middle class – not remotely rock and roll. There’s ample space between rows where you can set up your picnic table and nibble on olives and hummus, while muddling your Old Fashioned. I kid you not.

Hampered by a couple of severe downpours Garbage and Blondie completed 2 incredible sets. It’s hard to believe that Shirley Manson is 51 and Debbie Harry is 72. They are absolutely fierce women, dressing as they please and aging as they please – I adore them both for their strong examples to women everywhere. They can both still belt out a tune too.

These are the most beautiful shoes. A fabulously perfect pink hue, with great leather, a feminine cut and dainty pointed toe. I have them in sage green too.

I actually think they are the PERFECT city shoe – a pair of shoes that you can throw in your bag for the office and wear when you’re dashing around on foot from office to tube/subway etc. Far more elegant than sneakers or flip flops! If you have a wide foot like me I advise sizing up half a size – I’m a true US 8.5 and these are a US 9.

It’s a crazy time of year here – Poppy turns 11 on Thursday, school finishes next Thursday, then we’re off to the UK for fish and chips, natters with good friends, a bit of rain and Revels and chocolate buttons 😉

Last Sunday was Mother’s Day here and we had our first morning at the pool followed by a delicious family lunch. They treated me well.

Then catching up from previous days…A week ago I had one of my brilliant partners from Rodan + Fields in town and I was invited to present. It was a blast speaking from the heart about my passion for the brand and the energy in the room was wonderful – we gained lots of new consultants that evening who can now join in the fun! I got my glad rags on for the night and wore Victoria Beckham by Target intentionally – why not channel another female power house if that’s where your sights are set!?

A new tattoo, a giveaway and an outfit catch up!

So I can finally share – I was waiting till after my trip back to the UK, once I had shown my Mum and Dad. As it turns out my 5 year old niece, Alice, is rubbish with secrets and snitched on me at the weekend! I guess it’s a good thing that Mum and Dad know in advance – the fewer shocks the better 😉 My lion is done – I’m a Leo and I love all it signifies.

We had a lovely relaxing weekend and went out for another ‘end of testing’ celebratory lunch. It was actually planned originally as a meal out for me and Dave – then Hugh invited himself and his sister. Not one to dissuade an interest in dining out, we happily changed our reservation from evening to lunchtime and went as a party of four.

I wore my new Victoria Beckham x Target dress. I’d told myself I wasn’t going to buy anything from the range, but as I read reviews I thought I’d give it a whirl. As the reviews confirmed the quality is amazing – far superior to any $35 dress I’ve ever bought in the past! The fabric is heavy, but comfortable and on my shape you can’t beat a drop waist cut! I’m wearing a Large which fits perfectly.

Once again the weather is heavily influencing my outfits – we’re in that ’80 degrees one day, 50 degrees the next’ time of year until the end of May when it is reliable blazing everyday.

As we move toward May (not wishing April away!) I realized that nearly every year I get caught out. Mother’s Day in the USA is in May – so I always forget when Mothering Sunday is in the UK! I have no commercials, emails, or news prompts to remind me in March! I’m getting better though, and my Mum did receive a potted lily before she left with Dad on their Cunard cruise from Singapore to S. Africa. They’re really slumming it as empty nesters!

A quick Poppy’s Style business update!

Preamble – this is a one off informational post on my other business – then it’s all back to fashion, fun and family here at Poppy’s Style!

As many of you know I started working with Rodan + Fields back in August 2016. My endeavors with the skincare business were some of the reasons that I took a break from blogging at the beginning of the this year. I am thrilled to report the business is going from strength to strength and I am still relishing every moment of it.

Let’s face it MLM/network marketing/social commerce businesses historically have a poor reputation and carry some stigma. Unfortunately this bad rap was generated by companies who abused the concept, had no viable product and made money out of the initial investment leaving the franchise owner with nothing to build a business.

R+F, however, have had products in the market for years – initially in retail stores and then the dermatologists saw the opportunity to empower business owners and leverage the world of social media and peer recommendations. Our products are incredible and the before and after photos of our customers and consultants are testament to that. Personally my skin has never been better, and as a melanoma survivor and prior sun worshipper, I assure you that skincare is at the top of my obsessions.

So this post is just to make you aware of the following :

Could your skin be better?

I am a self proclaimed product junkie. Or I was. Let me explain. I have bought everything – you name a brand I have tried it – everything from drugstore own brands to Charlotte Tilbury, La Mer and Perricone MD. Nothing has changed my skin dramatically.

Now I don’t have terrible skin – but I’ve smoked, I’ve drunk more wine than I should and I’m 45 – gravity is not my friend. Oh and I have baked in the sun WAY too much over the years. This has all resulted in what I thought was skin that really couldn’t be improved too much except with medical intervention like needles and tucks. I’ve done botox and fillers – but quite honestly I would much rather spend my money on clothes than injections every 3-6 months.

My friend Trish then introduced me to Rodan + Fields. I’d never heard of them before. Trish sent me a few before and after photos of consultants and customers who had used it and, full disclosure, I was so impressed with what I saw that I invested in the company and became a consultant without having even tried the products!

So Labor Day has come and gone and it seems the weather here is all to aware of it. Its still beautiful and warm but the humidity has dissipated making everything 100x more comfortable!

I’ve been able to wear my denim jacket for the past 2 days!
