The VMAs with more crass than class.

Did you watch the VMAs last night?  Lordy I am getting old.

First Lady Gaga – SO over her – in fact so over her I have nothing to say.

Okay so now Miley.  Twitter lit up with her performance.  All I can say is it was pathetic, disturbing and humiliating.  Who the hell told her in rehearsal that ‘sure Miley – it’s great – just grab your crotch and stick your tongue out one more time‘?  Someone needs to give her a good slap, and all those around her for encouraging that kind of tripe.  When Robin Thicke joined her for Blurred Lines I was SO disappointed – he gave all the critics of the song all the ammunition they needed.  Why grind your groin against Hannah Montana’s rear Robin?  I was crying into my Earl Grey with disappointment.

Then Kanye.  WTF?  Great t.v. NOT.  You couldn’t see him, nor could you hear the song for all the censorship bleeping over it.

Thank the Lord for Justin.  A stellar performance from an artist that takes his craft seriously.  Great singing, great dancing – what I call proper entertainment.

I don’t think there was one presenter I understood – lots of weird grunts and hand gestures – oh and inappropriate Amber Alert references, not something I think should be made light of.  And then there was Katy’s grill, and Taylor and Selena trying to look hot and make Harry jealous.  Just uuurgh – it’s giving me the creeps recounting it.

By then it was gone 10pm and I headed to bed.  I recorded the show thinking Poppy would love to watch it – but I fear most of it will be fast forwarded to avoid corrupting her innocence.  In hindsight I don’t think it has to do with my age – it’s more to do with the ‘entertainment’ industry’s poor judgement and inability to ‘entertain’.  Whatever happened to good old singing and dancing – Justin needs to teach them all a lesson or two.  What do you think?

As I step down from my soap box here’s what I’ve been wearing over the past couple of days…

ASOS t-shirt dress

Dress – Asos t-shirt dress // Sandals – Steve Madden (really old!) // Necklace – Target (old)

Neon

Jeans – Gap ankle skimmers (sale buys) // T-shirt – H&M (old) // Scarf – Boden (last season now just $14!) // Sandals – Zara (old) // Necklace – H&M (recent but not online)

I’m only catching up today but am shocked by what I’ve seen. I always regarded Miley as a good role model and a performer with real talent but she’s made an absolute fool of herself and it’s now no longer about her talent…all she’s going to be remembered for is this horrific performance. Billy Ray needs to ground her for a year and give her a good talking to!
PS loving the yellow outfit – going to try that one out with my yellow jeans! x

You in that yellow with the black & white is just perfection – I absolutely LOVE this outfit so much.
The VMA’s have passed me by and by the sounds of it I am pleased!

I love your grey outfit. I particularly love your watch. I only saw the photos of the MTV show in the papers and could easily say that these performances don’t contribute anything to music.

Oooh my watch – a fabulous gift from my Husband when I turned 40 – I was overwhelmed. I love it and love wearing it – I don’t save it for ‘best’:)

Miles Cyrus was embarrassing, I love Robin Thicke but he really should have known better ( love the outfits by the way)

Hi Diane! Yes – you would have thought he would have questioned it in rehearsal – think how many people stood and watched before the live show!?

That grey dress just looks so comfy – I want it!

And maybe I’m getting old too but my eyes nearly popped out too after I googled Miley’s VMA performance. Hmmm.

Oh it is comfy – I really love it – perfect for just throwing on – but it has a bit of something too – a great price as well. Are we too old – or is she just naff? Maybe a touch of both – some have called it art – I call it trying to hard. x

I didn’t see the VMAs and have avoided looking so far. The pictures on Twitter of Will Smith and his family was enough .. if they looked shocked, it must have been bad! Loving your hair by the way … keep growing it!!

Did not see a minute of it, now Im really glad. Some of these people get so big that the hangers on cannot call it Emperers new Clothes (or fingers or whatever) Gross!
PS the grey looks so pretty on you, those silver sandals are lovely!

I’m such a saddo I completely missed it! But more importantly yay for the yellow jeans! Love them with black. I’m so going to get more wear out of mine in the winter than in the summer. Black and grey yum yum yum!! Loving the longer hair as well chicken. Too cool. Xxx

It must have been your inspiration – I was definitely on the fence about the jeans with black – they are actually more of a lime than a yellow – but still I love how neon they are! The hair is growing nicely – now wondering why I didn’t do it sooner! x

Your review of the VMAs is so accurate — but I must say that the song is not “family friendly” either and that girl’s gesturing goes along with it. I’m loving your scarf and those sandals!! I did buy a couple of sweaters from Boden’s clearance a couple of weeks ago – I’ll have to go back and see about a scarf!

The scarf is gorgeous – I have the chinchilla and guava pinspot too – they are the perfect weight! I know what you mean about Blurred Lines – there are plenty of Beiber songs that I think are inappropriate for his audience too – but you know what when I was singing into my hairbrush in front of TOTP at 7 years old I don’t think I cared or knew what the lyrics meant!

Saw Miley, switched it off!!!! Love that Asos dress, it’s only £20 over here! Not sure I could carry it off as you have more height than me, may swamp me. Is there lots of access fabric?x
