After a wild, fun night on Thursday, that ended later than expected at 3am, I headed out of the house on Friday to get the tree, again later than expected…The kids were eager to decorate and for the first time ever I let them at it – all except the stringing of the lights that my OCD just couldn’t bear to let go of, not just yet anyway…I have to say they did a mighty fine job. Even our daredevil elf, Maximus, was suitably impressed.
While we were waiting for the tree to be delivered I asked the children to write their lists for Santa. As you can see Poppy was less than impressed for some reason, though Hugh had a blast writing his – I must teach him to do ditto marks next time poor lad!

The house feels and smells so festive now – I love having the trees up – but it’s hard to believe it really is almost Xmas!! I haven’t sent cards yet or transferred the kids’ lists into my Amazon cart – thank goodness I had the foresight to photograph them before they were handed over to Santa!
Today I had a good run with Tennyson in the drizzle – the boy is a trouper – 4 miles in the wet and cold was not was not what he was expecting as he bounded out of the door! I then enjoyed a good old family day watching football and Christmas movies while indulging with peppermint bark and hot chocolate…I think a run will be required most days in this run up to the 25th!

That’s a huge tree! How did the little un’s manage to get the decs up to the top? I let the boys at our trees yesterday and after they went to bed, the Grumps said to me “sort it out, will you”. And like you, I’m OCD about lights. I need three sets on one tree and they have to be evenly spaced so it’s definitely my job.
And peppermint bark – is that like the American equivalent of Matchsticks? Remember them?
It is – it’s a 9 footer! I had ladders out and had to rearrange a few ornaments that had been hung in clusters at the bottom of the tree:) Some branches had 6 baubles on them:) We’ve got 400 lights on this big thing! I do remember matchsticks – LOVED the orange ones, in fact I can get chocolate orange here these days – but peppermint bark is dark chocolate and white chocolate layered with crushed peppermint candy sprinkled on top – DIVINE – I’ll photograph it next time I’m munching it – it is like crack xx
Better still – bring some over for when we next catch up!
OMG that tree is MASSIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am laughing at Poppy’s face too – not happy!
Hair is looking so good at the moment
Fiona
Hello lovely – yep I went for an even bigger one this year – almost couldn’t squeeze it in lol…She cheered up a whole bunch once she saw Santa – Hugh on the other had threw is letter at him and legged it – still doesn’t trust Santa:) xx
Bloomin Nora it’s huge said the nun to the vicar!?!?! Huge and beautiful x
Brings back memories of when my son who was 5 at the time decided to untie the string that was holding up our 8 footer to the bannister rail and the whole thing crashed down on Xmas Eve, minutes before our guests were due to arrive. I very nearly shed a tear!!!
We seem to have a problem with keeping our trees upright the one this year has already toppled over – I’ve given up!
It is an amazing tree!! I love your quirky decorations too! Big Ben is awesome! Ax
Your tree looks lovely honey xx
It won’t by the time the kids have stopped messing with it!! Why can’t they leave it be?:)
