Scents and sensibility.

I’m off clothes.  I know I never thought I’d see the day either.  Bored, bored, bored with everything I see in the stores or online.  Maybe I have just over done it.  For the first time in a LONG time I am perfectly happy with all my choices when I walk into my closet.  I want nor need a thing.  I am instead indulging in products – more specifically scents – perfumes and essential oils.

I wear perfume everyday, but I am a woman of few scents.  Chanel Coco for date nights, and then either Pacifica Tuscan blood orange or YSL Paris for the daytime depending what mood I am in.  I have worn Paris for YEARS – I first bought a bottle from duty free on the ferry to France when I was about 14!

Perfumes to me are a bit like underwear – as long as it works why spend money on it?  I do like to splash out a little more on my night time perfume but not a ridiculous amount.  However, I am contemplating purchasing the following:

The classic Shalimar by Guerlain:

Shalimar

Or Un Jardin Sur Le Toit by Hermés which is gorgeous for summer:

Hermes

If any of you have worn these I’d love to know what you think.

While I was researching scents I stumbled across some old favorites – a couple of which I ordered.

Giorgio Beverly Hills:

Giorgio BH

and Lou Lou by Cacharel:

LOU LOU FEM

Both of these scents are incredibly nostalgic.  I used to wear them in sixth form – again probably duty free purchases from day trips to France.  As soon as I opened the boxes and smelled them it transported me back to nights out in Bury – the clothes, the people, the pubs!  Not always what you are looking for in a perfume it has to be said:)  Also they are much sweeter than I remember – my nose has definitely matured!  I’ll wear them for now if only to remember the Hare and Hounds – but I probably won’t buy them again…the Hermés looks good value now.

Moving on from perfumes I’ve recently been treating my olfactory system to some essential oils.  I’ve been struggling to sleep well and thought I’d give Lavender a try so I am going to burn some before bed and then put a few drops on my pillow.  I also LOVE citrus oils so I treated myself to some Tangerine and Sweet Orange – so now I can be calmed, cheered and brightened – according to the labels at least!  I’ll let you know if my sleep improves.  Again I’d love to know if any of you have dabbled in aromatherapy.  I’ve just bought a book too, so it may become an new little hobby for me…namaste….

This week has seen me having to adapt to rain and now 80 degree sunshine.

Yesterday I headed to work in a jacket then changed into a jumper when I got home – to be honest most of the time I change into some kinds of sweatpants or workout gear.

Birkies 1.jpg

Birkenstocks – Arizona Blue // Jeans – H&M Boyfriend jeans // T-shirt – Gap (old) // Jacket – Zara (old) // Jumper – Boden (old – similar here on sale)

Today I opted for comfort for a dentist appointment – I have sparkly clean teeth again!

Shoes – Converse // Skirt – James Perse (old – similar here) // Top – Zara (old)

So do tell – what are your favorite scents to tickle your nose?  Do you have a signature scent?

Oh my! Georgio, must be the northern girl thing (nights out in Oldham for me with a liberal spray, you could probably smell it from a mile away). I’m more of a Jo Malone girl these days, perfume, candles, room diffusers, many thing and everything from there I love. For birthday and gifts my husband always gets me something from there, you can’t go wrong!

Hi Diane!!! I LOVE her Orange Blossom and Lime and Basil – someone once bought me a selection box of her perfumes and I loved them all – I’m thinking of building my collection and investing in one every couple of months. I’d love some of her candles too….mmmm it’s Mother’s Day here soon:)

LOL LOL blast from the past with those old scents – let me know if they’re still as vile (although at the time I will confess to loving) – I can ACTUALLY smell that Lou Lou right now up my nose.

I adore the turquoise and coral – ADORE!

I am over clothes too – but mine is for other reasons!!

Oh my I went through a phase of wearing those two scents a LONG time ago too Joanna. Now a days I’ve probably got five favourites including a couple of Jo Malone, which I like to sometimes layer to alter the fragrance. I love how perfumes from the past can transport you back in time & memories – providing they’re good ones of course 😉

Scents are SO evocative – honestly I could remember my ‘going out’ outfits in detail as soon as I smelled Lou Lou again! x

I still wear a fragrance that I came about 20 years ago in Ibiza and people still compliment me on it! I use Byblos but it seems to be getting harder and harder to get hold of :0( I don’t know what I will do if I can’t get it! I love burning oils too, nothing beats walking into your home to be greeted by a comforting aroma!!
You look ace in the skirt and sneakers outfit and I love the way you have mixed the coral and blue in one of your first ensembles! You may not be feeling the clothing love but you are still rockin’ your outfits!!

Have you tried Amazon? If you get a reliable seller you can normally find good deals on perfumes and ones that are no longer very common too. I have a little oil burner that I use with a candle but I’m thinking of buying a diffuser for about $60 that I can run all day! x

I think I must be sick:) It happens every summer here – it gets too warm to dress – I’m happiest in shorts and t-shirts – but then that gets boring! x

You’re off clothes because there’s nothing left to buy Joanna – hee hee :o)

And I use Prada d’Iris now – a lovely fresh green scent which thankfully no one around me wears. I remember Paris and had a bottle which the then boyfriend’s mother took a shine to and started wearing which meant I had to stop wearing that. Then I had Issey Miyake and my friend started wearing it and my mother in law started wearing it and I had to stop with that too. And another memory scent is Bobbi by Bobbi Brown (another green one).

Most of these days, I just rely on body wash and Molton Brown shower gels are always lovely … as is Chanel No.5 soap.

Ha – you might be right:) I left my Paris at my Mum’s back in February for her as she kept mentioning how much she liked it:) I adore Molton Brown shower gels and always use the Bashukan scent – there is nothing like it – have you ever tried their perfumes? x

Love that skirt 🙂 I remember Lou Lou from my teen years! I am more an Elemis perfume by day now. I find it hard to find new ones I like, having purchased a few in the past that I loved in the shop then changed my mind a few weeks later! Dolce Vita and Emporio Armani White are my regulars for an evening 🙂

Hi Heidi!! Thanks for stopping to comment! I will track down Elemis and give a try – I used to love Gucci Envy – I’m starting to remember all those tried and tested that I need to pick up again. I’d love to have a single signature scent! x

Oooh I’ll have to find that and have a sniff:) The skirt is one of the comfiest items of clothing I own – the cotton is SO soft! x

THey certainly don’t smell as good as I remember – I used to LOVE them!! I think I am just going to stick with Jo Malone – that way I can mix and layer as I choose! xx
