Southern girls

One of my great friends is leaving Atlanta to begin her new life with her fiancé in Charlotte.  To wish her on her way several of her girlfriends attended a lovely luncheon on Saturday.  In true Southern style we drank Arnold Palmers and ate chicken salad.  Poppy was lucky enough to be invited along and at one point burst into the room saying “thank goodness you’re all quiet at last!”.  We were listening to a pastor give a blessing.  My poor daughter has inherited my social clumsiness.  Of course she has also inherited some charm and managed to smile sweetly, alleviating any awkwardness:)

On Friday evening my Husband and I went out for dinner to The Floataway Café – another of our favorites.  It’s a bit out of the way for us so we always drive there instead of cabbing it, so it was quite a tame evening for us:)  Another shocker is that I didn’t wear anything new!

However, during the day on Friday I wore my new River Island dress.  The fabric is so comfortable and I got so many compliments on it – it is loud though, so it is hard not to be noticed in it!

I have a crazy week of packing for two climates before the children and I leave for Bury this weekend!  The 2014 vacation countdown is on!

Hi Melissa!!! It really is a juggling act these days that deserves some research! The UK is getting so cheap now for high street brands that there is sometimes little in it when you add on the sales tax here that isn’t in the sticker price. High end goods are normally much cheaper here though as well as high end makeup. Sneakers are cheaper too – and of course US brands like Sam Edelman shoes and J.Crew. I wrote a post here some time ago that may help – but let me know if you have questions about specific items!! Have fun shopping!! xxxx https://poppys-style.com/2014/02/08/buy-uk-vs-usa/

Just loading lots of movies on ipads for the kids – hopefully going that way they will crash and sleep while I enjoy a book and a glass of wine:)

Love the river island dress on you.

I’m amazed they don’t have stores there as they are much closer to the UK than here! It isn’t cheap here though – so I only buy in the sale for Poppy! x

Hi Joanna, I like all the pretty dresses. So summery! I have a pair of Hasbeen clogs I never end up wearing because I feel like I’m in the 70’s. Any suggestions on how to style them for a slightly edgier, not boho-y look? All I’ve come up with is pairing them with skinnies. Thanks!

Hi Sara – I love clogs- they are great for leg lengthening and super comfortable! I love to wear mine with shorts of any kind or even shorter skirts with just a plain t-shirt. Boyfriend jeans work well too. I’d just be careful not to wear anything too fussy up top as clogs draw a lot of attention to your legs so you don’t want to compete with them. I’m sure Pinterest has some great inspiration as well – I get sucked in all the time searching for new looks! xx
