Southern girls

One of my great friends is leaving Atlanta to begin her new life with her fiancé in Charlotte.  To wish her on her way several of her girlfriends attended a lovely luncheon on Saturday.  In true Southern style we drank Arnold Palmers and ate chicken salad.  Poppy was lucky enough to be invited along and at one point burst into the room saying “thank goodness you’re all quiet at last!”.  We were listening to a pastor give a blessing.  My poor daughter has inherited my social clumsiness.  Of course she has also inherited some charm and managed to smile sweetly, alleviating any awkwardness:)

On Friday evening my Husband and I went out for dinner to The Floataway Café – another of our favorites.  It’s a bit out of the way for us so we always drive there instead of cabbing it, so it was quite a tame evening for us:)  Another shocker is that I didn’t wear anything new!

However, during the day on Friday I wore my new River Island dress.  The fabric is so comfortable and I got so many compliments on it – it is loud though, so it is hard not to be noticed in it!

I have a crazy week of packing for two climates before the children and I leave for Bury this weekend!  The 2014 vacation countdown is on!

Some H&M treasures.

It’s been a crazy week.  Mostly spent cleaning and preparing to host all of the kindergarten parents, then cleaning and recovering!  The party was fun though and I was relieved to find that many of the parents are as odd as we are:)

This morning I had my annual physical so after being prodded, pricked and poked (oo-er misses) I was in desperate need of some retail therapy.  I headed down to Atlantic Station to our big H&M store, convincing myself that it would be a great place to find a present for a party that Poppy is heading to today.  Of course I had to take a peek at the women’s section which conveniently you have to walk through to get to the kids’ section!  It’s actually a bit of a minefield choosing clothes for someone else’s eight year old, especially as I am basing my choices on Poppy’s current obsessions.  She loves anything with animals or leopard print (I wonder who she takes after?) and H&M have animals in abundance!

So before heading up to the children’s section here’s what I found myself with – nothing I wore goes with what I bought – forgive me – not how I plan to style them!

This great shaggy gilet may not be everyone’s cup of tea – but I love the fact it is longer and shaggy – though we’ll see how much dust and dirt gets trapped in it!  I used to have a coat just like it bought on Portobello Market years ago that my Husband loved!  I can’t see it online right now but it was $69 and there are similar here.  Oh it’s big too – this is a small.

This is also a small – again $69 – a great coatigan with a cocoon shape.  I think this will look great with skinny black jeans and ankle boots.

Finally I loved this sweater with a silky print front.  I love the greenish color of the snake print – it coordinates with my petrol newbury boots perfectly!  This is a medium – I think H&M sizing is definitely on the large side!  Again sorry I can’t see it online.

And here is what I wore today!  Probably still too warm for a jacket but I wanted to wear it!:)

Feeling groovy.

I hope you all had an amazing long weekend.  Mine was spent by the pool chilling and having lots of fun with friends.  It feels a bit odd being back in regular clothes today.

I’m convinced my hair is benefiting from taking Biotin combined with the sunshine – it feels pretty long today – well long for short hair if you know what I mean.  I am determined to grow it over the summer and see how close I can get to a bob by Fall.  In the meantime it requires plenty of wax for tucking it behind the ears.  As I dried it this morning I felt inspired by the 70s and tried to make my flick as Farrah-like as possible at the front.  Gosh she was beautiful wasn’t she?

Going with the 70s theme I went with my Lotta from Stockholm clogs.  I love these shoes – they are incredibly comfortable and at $85 they are far cheaper than Swedish Hasbeens.  You can buy them here on Amazon or via the Lotta site.  I applied a couple of treatments of olive oil to these nude ones to age them a bit and make the leather a tad darker.  They also have a great Facebook page with regular updates on new styles here.
