Sleepwear

Sleepwear is like underwear – I hate spending money on something that may only get seen by 3 other people in my house. Every 12-18 months though it becomes essential to replace my greying, fraying pyjamas with some more decent attire to wear in the car on the school run – you know one day we will break down and I’ll have to get out of the car. My poor children – if not already scarred for life – they will be.

My first port of call for sleepwear is always H&M – I’ve had more success with their pyjamas than more expensive ones bought in the NAP sale – I still kick myself for wasting money on some ‘luxury’ sleepwear. This year I haven’t been disappointed – H&M have BY FAR the best selection of sleepwear and take it from the quality is fabulous! There is so much to choose from too – I’ve kept it to pyjamas here as I am not a nightshirt wearer (are you supposed to wear them with knickers or without? It’s always bothered me wearing underwear in bed!) but those are available too.

First up is this simple camisole and short set. Really cute and cool for summer.

This long sleeve and pant set is available in 2 colors and is super flattering and drapey. I’d change into this after work (my husband is tracking the earlier and earlier hour that I arrive in the lounge in my sleepwear!) it’s so lovely – perfect for sofa surfing in front of Survivor.

I love how H&M keep their color scheme simple too – greys, whites and pinks – easy to mix and match if you choose to. This set is gorgeous with the lace detail.

As I suggested the next two sets could easily be mixed and matched with the previous one.

Here’s one I can DEFINITELY get away with wearing in car pool – surely?

The next 4 sets are all 100% cotton. I’ve worn the blue striped on already and it is gorgeous. Really fabulous quality for the price and super comfortable. I have a large which is generous – the shirts are boxy so no discomfort with buttons. Just really soft, cool cotton. Highly recommended.

These shorts come in a pack of 2 without tops – but again perfect for mixing and matching with a cami.

This is one of my favorite sets – just pure, simple white pyjamas – gorgeous.

These are cute and available in pink too but with a slogan which I’m not sure my husband wants to wake up to each morning…

So what do you think? I used to be an M&S girl all the way for pjs when I lived in the UK – even buying their great cotton mens pyjamas (you might want to check out this VERY important link – David Gandy looks MIGHTY FINE)…but you’ll be hard pushed to get me to look elsewhere for sleepwear than H&M these days.

I LOVE Christmas shopping – even more so since I can be so productive online. I really do try and put some careful thought into gifting at Christmas – especially as I forget so many birthdays throughout the year! Here are some of my top picks for the special people in my life – some purchased and some not and I’m not saying which as they are hopefully reading my posts!

I find it especially difficult to select presents for the men in my life. This year booze is top of the list. As my family are in the UK M&S are always the best bet as I can pay here and designate a UK shipping address, plus they have a great selection of beers and wines.

A case of Aglianico is superb value at less than £39. There’s also 25% off now if you buy 2 cases – one for you and one for a gift!

Another very special person loves his beer. This gift will go down a treat. A mixed case of IPAs and ales.

My nephews are still really little but M&S have some great gifts for kids. I love this Gruffalo t-shirt and I know someone who loves the animated movie.

My sister is going to hate me for this one – but at least it’s not a huge jar of beads like we received last year!

My niece is only 3 but she loves clothes and princesses – well what girl doesn’t. Here are my choices for her this year.

For the Mom’s and sister’s in our lives how about some sleepwear. Sometimes it might feel too intimate to buy sleepwear but when it is ‘lounge wear’ I think it is fine – especially when it is cashmere. I have these from last year and wear them all the time in the winter in front of the t.v.!

For some proper Christmas pyjamas that can actually then be worn all year round I just love these buffalo checked shorts.

Knitwear is always welcome in my house and this colorblock tunic is new in at J.Crew – I especially love the poppy color but I couldn’t manage to grab an image of that so click through here to see it! This is the burgundy and navy – classic for this season.

I’ve been having conversations with a friend about this side zip cable sweater. It is gorgeous and again is 30% off right now with code SHOPNOW.

I love this rib stitch turtle neck in electric red – totally festive but not a Christmas jumper!

This t-shirt is a great gift for a good friend – full of color and really unique. The Donald Robertson Dancing Ladies tee.

I know several people close to me who would love to carry their jewelry in this.

I just love this cup – it is basically all I can manage to say before my morning cup of joe.

This bowl is so unique and they also do dinner plates. Absolutely striking.

For jewelry and accessories I adore a great fur scarf.

Anthropologie always have great jewelry that I know many of my girlfriends would be thrilled to receive.

With 3 dogs I have recently become somewhat of an expert in scented candles. I have several on my wish list for Santa. I think these from Anthropologie are gorgeous stocking stuffers.

I’m off to chill out after a brisk walk with the dogs. We have a week off for Thanksgiving and the whole family is excited. It’s our favorite holiday of the year – yup we’re totally American.

One of the problems with blogging is it can be disastrous for your saving plans. When you read a post by a blogging friend and see something you like you know you have to act quickly – you snooze you lose. Being 5hrs behind of the UK can sometimes be a pro and other times a con – I can shop while the UK sleeps and while new stock is loaded on websites, but conversely something can be sold out by the time I wake up. So yes I hold my hands up – I am guilty – I ordered Rosie’s cashmere trousers as soon as I read about them in Kat’s blog last night. It’s great that my UK friends can keep me abreast of new lines in M&S, River Island and TopShop for example – but imagine how much I’d save if they didn’t!? Oh well they’re winging their way to me as we speak.

Unfortunately being on the M&S site spells disaster for me. ‘While I’m there’ I tend to nip to various other categories – just to see if there is anything new – you know – just in case…Darn it of course I migrate to one of the most expensive items on the site. Don’t laugh but I bloody need these – perfect for curling up in front of the telly on a dark winter evening. I’m flabbergasted at how quickly they are selling out – at £199 a pop too! I am cruising the site every hour or so just in case the grey medium comes back – obsessed much – yes indeed.

Now there must be something in the air as I am also cruising the Zara site every couple of hours to see if this beauty has arrived. Assured by Kat that it is not a onesie – it has a belt – I am convinced it can be glamorously styled for winter nights out. Stand by – I know there are doubters out there – so let’s see what transpires…

Now my obsession with comfy knitwear led me to start thinking about sleepwear. The Rosie trousers are really more loungewear than sleepwear, and in my mind it seems a bit ridiculous to lounge in cashmere only to change into a 5 year old nightie from M&S, slightly greyed from washing, shrunken and totally unflattering and definitely un-err-are-you-up-for-it-tonight-honey as I usually wear them with big knicks – TMI I know…but I try to keep decent around the house for my son’s sanity.

So this afternoon the hunt for sleepwear began. Nordstrom as ever came up trumps.

These Steve Madden pjs are super fun and I love the pink trim.

I love a good night dress (is there a way of saying that without sounding 90?) and this is my favorite – again I love the pink and grey.

And here’s what I ended up ordering:

Almost a onesie, but not quite – this is from Splendid – I think it perfectly straddles (poor choice of word I realize) comfy yet sexy-ish (though I’m already slightly concerned about logistics with an all in one…).

And these pjs from Eberjey look lovely – I hope they are. What’s my fascination with grey marl though?

So there we are – new loungewear and new sleepwear. I can now throw out those greying cotton nightdresses and my velour sweats…my Husband will be thrilled – we’ll see how he adapts to the onesie (sorry Mum!).

Talking of M&S again I wore their new checked biker coat yesterday. Their shipping service to the US is great and it’s free – this arrived really quickly – about 5 business days I think. It’s gorgeous – very English looking according to my friends and really soft and warm.

I’m totally in love with my pink Boden boots – perfect for cheering up a grey day. I am normally a US 8 and these are a Eur 39 – if anything they fit slightly on the small size so size up if in doubt. Don’t forget their 22% discount finishes Thursday night.
