Pretty dresses

Just a quick outfit post today as it has been a crazy couple of days packed with field days, and then ‘muffins with mom’ yesterday. All the children in Poppy’s 3rd grade class read memoirs they had written, about why they loved their moms so much, to a room of tearful, sniffing moms. It was lovely and emotionally draining!

Today the pool opens so it’s time to hit the gym and then recline with my new kindle by the pool for the rest of the day. The kindle paperwhite is my Mother’s Day gift and I love it! It is the perfect device for reading – no glare, great contrast and the ideal size. I’ve already downloaded some classics to re-read – Pride and Prejudice and To Kill a Mockingbird, plus the best seller Girl on a Train. I love having instant access to so much reading material! If you have a reader in your house the paperwhite is a perfect gift! I never thought I would need another device, having nearly every Apple device, but last year when we went on vacation my husband had more books than clothes in his bag and I swore we would never again carry a physical library!

So here are the outifts. Two fabulous dresses, very different, but each perfect in their own right. The first is one of my AllSaints sale scores – the Relian dress in burgundy – I love it.

The second dress is a beautifully pretty dress from Mango. I wore my septum ring to the Mom’s morning and I was hesitant at first about the reaction from the other mother’s but no one said a thing! To divert attention I wanted to wear something really feminine so I opted for this navy dress – it’s also available in a deep pink.

My high street crush.

After my success with the River Island jumpsuits I was lured into searching all things River Island on ASOS.com.  Each time I’ve been back to the UK I’ve been more than pleasantly surprised by some of their offerings.  Yes you have to do the mutton check on most of it – but I have a couple of jackets of theirs, and now the jumpsuits, which I love.  So what else can they help me out with this summer?  Well how about some fabulous, bright, summery dresses – all in great comfortable, stretchy fabric!  So easy to throw on with a pair of sandals.

Here are my picks – several of which you’ll see me in over the coming weeks.  I’ve provided ASOS links to make them easily accessible here in the US.

This is the dress that caught my eye first – I love the print – loud and yellow.  I was concerned about sizing but the UK 12 is perfect – the fabric has plenty of stretch in it.  Such a statement dress that is so easy to wear.

yellow and black

My love for the yellow dress led me to these two – the same style but a snake print – in both yellow and coral.  Again a dressier version of a t-shirt dress that will take you from day to evening in the summer.

For those of you who are averse to print – this gorgeous pink dress delivers the same impact.

The following are jersey stretch swing dresses.  Again I tried the UK 12 in both and they are perfect – even around the bust.  These dresses will be great for transitional weather too, and I can see myself wearing them in the Fall with over the knee boots.

This marble print is on sale at just $33!

The blue leopard print is stunning in real life – the background is more cream than white.

This dress has to be my favorite.  It’s a swing dress – slightly more fitted around the bust with less stretch so it might be worth sizing up if you are of ample bosom.  I just LOVE the print on this.

Next a maxi dress. I’ve been on the look out for a tie dye max for a while and this fits the bill perfectly.  I really like a racer back and the side split makes it less restrictive.

Finally this is a print that caught my eye back in February.  I sized up in this to a UK 14 as it isn’t quite as stretchy and it is body hugging.  Again this is currently on sale at $35.

Now just for good measure – this one is ASOS, not River Island, but I had so many compliments about my red checked dress that I wanted to share this one with you.  It’s the same style so size down.  Lovely and girly – but it will look great toughened up with a pair of sneakers.  Also on sale at $60.

Finishing off with a couple of outfits from this week.  I’m in workout gear right now, about to take the dog for a run while it is cooler!

ASOS dresses further reduced.

I’ve previously shared with you my joy at discovering all the treasures that ASOS has on offer.  Only yesterday was I trying to resist the temptation of visiting ASOS.com again.  This week I have already ordered the oversized checked swing dress after seeing the gorgeous Frances at SchoolRunStyle.blogspot.com wearing it.  She is my new style crush.  She’s as adventurous as I like to be, but she looks fabulous in everything!

Thank goodness I ordered it when I did as it appears to be out of stock right now – take note – when obsessing do not procrastinate! (UPDATE: it’s back in stock here!).

Then Fiona was blogging about the joys of ASOS.com yesterday with her top picks, and I managed to resist cruising the site.  ASOS.com sucks you in and then spits you out only once you have placed an order – at least in my experience.

Then darn them – today in my inbox was an email with 20% extra off dresses!  I just had to sneak a peek (for you Helen) didn’t I?

This is currently sitting in my cart.  It is the perfect spring/summer party dress and would be perfect for taking on vacation.  There is a maternity version too of this little sequin number.

Sequin dress

This silk front dress reminds me so much of my Ted Baker shifts but a quarter of their prices – again the perfect little Spring number.

High Neck silk front dress

I adore this navy dress with the embellished neckline.  The color is gorgeous – I’d wear this to a wedding in an instant – it’s only $42.59 right now!

Embellished neck dress

I am loving the vivid yellow in this dress – it can easily be worn with tights or bare legs.  The colorblocking will provide a fabulous silhouette too.

Baroque leather sleeve dress

This dress is an absolute steal at $25.  So classic, simple and elegant.

crepe v-neck dress

The same can be said for this Mango dress too – a great little vacation number – rude not to at $22!!

mango shift dress

Now to be fair the following dresses aren’t in the sale – they are new arrivals – but given how quickly stock can disappear on ASOS (as with the checked dress!) it is well worth continually checking the new arrivals in case something appears that you absolutely cannot live without.  For me it is these dresses.

This animal print dress also comes in green, but I love the pink here.

The oriental print here is so pretty, I just love it.  Again the print is very reminiscent of Ted Baker.

Finally this dress is just such a classic.  Great colors, with a contemporary feel.  Perfect for a garden party (ah hem I go to so many – not) or a wedding.

It’s worth noting too that currently in the US you can become a VIP member for just $19!  It usually costs $39 a year and provides early access to sales, VIP only sales and free express shipping all year.  I’m a VIP as of this week:)

Can you resist a bargain?  Have you ever been trapped in the world of ASOS not to be seen again for hours?
