Our trip to NYC!

I can’t believe it is already a week since we left for NYC! We had such an amazing time and crammed so much into 2 1/2 days! We stayed in our usual haunt in SoHo – a hotel room that is titchy tiny with no room for swinging cats – but it is such a great location for all our needs!

On the Thursday evening we headed out for pizza – at the request of the kids of course – though I have to say it was pretty damn good pizza!

On Friday the weather was stunning and we headed uptown. Poppy and I shopped while the boys went battling Pokemons in Central Park!

We ate at some incredible places – Jack’s Wife Freda being my absolute favorite restaurant! Mom gets a cocktail, the kids are welcomed with a great kids menu, its great people watching and Dad gets a great coffee!

Even Dave got to go shopping on the Friday! It’s his 50th at the end of this month so as a treat we headed to some super cool stores – way too cool for me but he does like his Japanese designs!

I'm totally the least cool in my family

I did, however, get to venture into & Other Stories to check out their sale – I came away with a sweater and a dress both with 50% off! Not bad hey! In fact for the first time ever on an NYC trip I think I spent the least! Dave, Poppy and Hugh all coming back with more than me! The kids stocked up at Uniqlo, H&M and Zara of course!

Fatal sale at & Other Stories

I’ve actually just made a couple of other purchase from & Other Stories – I adore their knitwear. Use code FRIENDS at checkout to get a 10% discount and free shipping in the US.

& Other Stories Cardigan

This dark green cardigan is gorgeous and snuggly and the wrap belt gives it a great shape. I actually bought itĀ instead of this coatĀ that I fell in love with. I cannot justify another coat, but I have this one in camel from last year and adore it. It now also comes in black too.

This sweater is lush – I just love the red instead of my usual blacks and greys!

Finally I treated myself to the MAC Liptensity lipsticks. Check these out – the pigments are so intense – I loveĀ them! Great moisture too but also great staying power. I bought Eros, Fireworks, Habanero and Postmodern.

The new #liptensity lipstick from @maccosmetics is incredible - such intense pigments!

Oh and if you are looking for a FABULOUS Acne Velocite jacket tribute check this out from H&M! It’s real suede and only $399 – given what I paid for my AllSaints shearling last year this is a BARGAIN! It’s sure to sell out in the blink of an eye!

Poppy and Joanna do NYC

I’ve just had the most brilliant 48 hours! One night in NYC with my incredible 9 year old. She is a natural traveler! It was so much fun to spend time together – just the two of us. She is a joy to be with and didn’t ever complain even though we walked miles, sometimes in the cold rain! Yes the weather sucked on Tuesday afternoon – we were completely caught off guard by the constant rain. Thankfully the sun made an appearance on Wednesday morning!

We left bright and early on Tuesday – but that didn’t stop our flippin’ flight being delayed due to the NYC weather!

We stayed at the City Rooms + NYC hotel at Lafayette and Canal. I highly recommend it – cheap as chips for NYC, clean, VERY basic, hardwoods, comfy beds, clean bathrooms and easy access to Canal St. subway to get Uptown. As soon as we arrived we headed out for lunch to Jack’s Wife Freda – just the best restaurant in SoHo as far as I am concerned – I love it there and they are totally child friendly. Poppy just loved people watching.

JacksWifeFreda

After lunch we wandered around SoHo in the rain – unfortunately for Poppy very few of the stores there had a children’s section but she still managed to find a Swatch that she loved, swearing that she would much rather have that than clothes. Mom you’re a sucker.

The following day, after breakfast at Jack’s Wife Freda again, we headed Uptown to 5th Avenue – where of course Zara had a kids section – and oh how quickly we forgot about the watch. We totally blew the budget in Zara šŸ˜‰ I must say thank you to the lovely Maya at Jack’s Wife Freda. I follow them on Instagram and I had mentioned Poppy’s excitement about eating there. As we were eating breakfast I tagged a few photos of Poppy. Having seen we were there Maya called the restaurant and asked them to take extra special care of us – so sweet. Poppy really enjoyed her watermelon juice on the house.

After yet more shopping we were pretty exhausted – we walked miles – and we’re not used to that in Atlanta!

shopping

We picked our bags up and headed back to La Guardia ready to sleep all the way home. We had just the best time and I am already talking up NYU for Poppy šŸ˜‰ She is a natural in the City and can charm anyone – she had the store assistants and flight attendants eating out of the palm of her hand.

Far more fun than any birthday party we could have thrown – well at least for me anyway! šŸ˜‰

NYFW trip part 1

Phew – back in Atlanta. I love going away but I love coming home even more! It was actually a fabulously indulgent weekend on my own, which involved shopping, eating and a party for good measure! I have to say, of all my visits to NYC, this was by far the hottest and most humid it has ever been – it was pretty uncomfortable – so I had to keep popping in lovely places for the air conditioning šŸ™‚

Before I left I had my haircut – thanks to Chadd and Gina yet again for making me feel absolutely amazing – no clothes can do what a great haircut can.

To travel in I wore my James Perse wrap dress and Golden Goose glitter sneakers – I was in such a rush for the cab I didn’t get a full length shot! Atlanta Hartsfield airport certainly got an eyeful of my cleavage though!

Of course I had the obligatory cocktail before boarding.

I was starving when I arrived so after dropping my bags at the InterContinental, Times Square I jumped on the Subway straight down to SoHo. My first meal had to be a Jack’s Wife Freda.Ā I’d been fantasizing about it ever since I was there back at the end of May with Cali. It’s one of those great bar/restaurants where I could eat every meal from breakfast to dinner – and I almost did!

I then ended up in AllSaints around the corner – how convenient! I purchased the amazing Agi dress (UK 12) and the incredible Haff sweater (Medium) – I just love a cold shoulder and it makes this chunky knit super sexy! You must visit the SoHo location when you are next there – the staff are brilliant and could not have been more helpful. Trying on knits in 90 degree heat was not my idea of fun and they were super accommodating.

To celebrate my purchases I popped into Balthazar for a margarita.

You may notice I did also manage to find time to nipĀ into Uniqlo for my Husband. Last year I bought their great Men’s cashmere crewnecks for myself and this year he requested the cardigans – the quality is outstanding for $99!

That turned out to beĀ enough excitement for Friday – and I was in bed by 8pm!! How things change!

I’ll be back with all the exciting events of Saturday soon! Now off to take my sweet fur babies out for a walk – I missed them like crazy!

My New York City trip!

I am tired. Ā Very, very tired, but happy. Ā Very, very happy.

My great friend, Cali, and I arrived in NYC at around midday on Saturday. Ā The weather was perfect – blue skies and a cool breeze. Ā We stayed in the Holiday Inn on Lafayette Street – which I have to say was the PERFECT location in the middle of SoHo.

on the plane

We headed straight out for lunch and found a fabulous place called Delicatessen for mussels and fries. Ā They also had a ‘Macbar’ so we couldn’t resist the opportunity to taste the mac ‘n’ cheese with confit of duck – as rich and amazing as it sounds!

lots of foodAfter a bottle of prosecco it was time to flex the credit card and we walked around the corner to AllSaints – how convenient that their sale had just started in store! Ā It hasn’t started online yet so keep your eyes peeled here. Ā I got a couple of great bargains along with the RaeĀ dress that I just couldn’t resist.

Rae dress

That night we headed out for cocktails at The Pegu ClubĀ – of course the new dress was worn. Ā A fabulous conclusion to a great first day!

The pegu club

Sunday morning began bright and early with maybe the BEST breakfast I have ever had at Jack’s Wife Freda. Ā I had rose water waffle with fruit, and a lovely pot of tea – unfortunately we were even too early for mimosas to be served on a Sunday!

selfie me

My #selfie – sorry no full length outfit shot, but I was wearing the ASOS maxi dress and my favorite Nars Yu lip pencil. Ā The dress is perfect and even one of the assistants in Barney’s stopped me to tell me she had just ordered it.

waffle

It was then time to head Uptown where we enjoyed pounding the streets and window shopping – but of course we also hadĀ to get some gifts from the American Girl Store and then head to Barney’s for a cocktail. Ā It was the perfect way to spend the afternoon.

Cali and I selfie

Early that evening we rushed out to an Irish bar near Times Square to meet Avril and see the Belfast Community Gospel Choir perform. Ā We walked in to the most rousing, amazing sounds. Both Cali and I ended up in tears for the next hour – their singing was so amazing. Ā I have never felt so emotionally moved by a choir – Ā being with fabulous friends, in NYC created an incredible experience that I will never forget. Ā Of course I tried to claim a spot in the choir too:)

crashing the choirCali and I departed and made our way back downtown…arriving back at our hotel at a little past 4am. Ā Yep we made the most of it – Russian vodka bars and Speakeasy bars included.

We managed to rally on Monday to meet up with Avril and Gemma Louise at Balthazars for Avril’s birthday lunch. Ā Cider with ice cubes helped the head:)

So today has been tough to say the least, but amazing memories made with amazing friends have made it easier. Ā I feel very fortunate that I have such a supportive family that let me run off for a weekend of fun with brilliant friends who I love dearly – thanks for making it great Cali, Avril and Gemma Louise!
