23 years ago today I had what I thought was a one night stand. It turned out to be the beginning of an incredible, amazing journey of love, passion, laughter and risks.
I love you DaveĀ – thank you for being the MOST amazing partner to live this life with xxx
Well I’ll start where I left off – our anniversary. Ā I am incredibly lucky that I am married to an extremely romantic, generous man. Ā He was so giddy about the day unfolding and all his various surprises he could barely contain himself! Ā He even created a playlist for me with little clues leading to my surprise gift!
We headed out to dinner to our favorite ‘special occasion’ restaurant – Bacchanalia. Ā They do a superb seasonal five course tasting menu and the food is exquisite. Ā And how cute – they even surprised us with a little cake!
I wore my Ted Baker taxi cab dress which I adore – it feels elegant yet quirky – it’s so fun to wear. Ā This exact version is no longer available but the print must have been so popular they have released a new version here. Ā The jacket is a Zara tuxedo jacket from the sale and the wedge boots are also Zara.
Before we left for our night out we exchanged gifts. Ā I’m a very lucky girl. Ā Apparently fifteen years of marriage is a big deal.
I wish I’d known – I thought I was being particularly thoughtful with my gift of a wooly hat and a pair of socks – I kid you not!
On Friday night we headed out again to take Mike for a farewell dinner. Ā Another fabulous restaurant and quickly becoming one of my favorites – The Optimist. Ā They even had frogs legs on the menu which my daring Husband enjoyed. Ā I had the most delicious oysters followed by the most incredible haddock I have ever eaten – and I assure you I know my cod and haddock!
After much debate as to what to wear, and given my late night on Thursday I opted for comfort in the end. Ā This is the Zara pyjama suit from last season that I snapped up in the sale, worn with my white heels.
Finally I’ll leave you with a couple of daytime outfits. Ā The first was from Friday, shopping in the Ā mall with Mike.
Now we’re off for a slap up breakfast before taking Mike to the airport – it’s been a brilliant visit and now I’m in the mood for planning some trips back to the UK again!
15 years ago today I walked into a hotel room filled with fabulous friends and family to marry the man I still love and adore today. Ā No one makes me giggle like he does, or challenges me intellectually like he does, or makes me feel as sexy as he does. Ā We started married life as we continue it today – setting out to laugh often and fight rarely, take risks and avoid ruts, respect and not take for granted. Ā Love you honey.
Two of these photos are our first dance to “Love Me Tender” – the other two are when we cleared the dance floor to “Satisfaction” – easy to spot which is which:)Ā
In the excitement of the day I still haven’t decided what to wear tonight. Ā It will probably be dictated by a loose waistband as we are having a fancy five course dinner with wine. Ā Stay tuned on instagram for updates!
My outfits over the past couple of days have been dictated by the cooler weather here. Ā It is perfectly autumnal in Atlanta at last!
I walked into the kitchen this morning to the sound of ‘You’re my favorite waste of time‘ – not sure if it was the Owen Paul version or the original version, but here’s the Owen Paul version from ’86, which I remember well.
After a bleary couple of seconds wondering why Nick Jr. wasn’t on the t.v. yet – I realized it was my lovely Husband’s way of reminding me that 22 years ago today, over a couple of Newkie Browns in The Central Bar, he announced he was ‘infatuated’ with me. Ā I remember the whole day so vividly – from bumping into him in the library, to the Moscow Mules, to the shock and delight of discovering he ‘was into me’ (I told the story here last year). Ā He was, and still is, the antithesis of every other guy I had dated – non-conformist, smart, sensitive and charming (not sure how many of my exes read this – they might not anymore!) – I had a pretty good feeling this one was a keeper.
As the summer of ’91 progressed, our relationship hit the fast track. Ā Within a couple of months we were planning our first vacation together. Ā He was studying for his PhD in Byzantine History so it seemed natural to head for Turkey – somewhere I had never been before – but I was excited to have my personal tour guide. Ā Our first overseas adventure was thrilling – back packing down from Istanbul, via various Roman ruins (and bars), to Side on The Mediterranean, where we drank Efes in the sun. Ā It was the trip that sealed the deal for me – he was the ‘one’ – oh and he was hot too – look at the hair and those soccer playing legs!:))
These next photos made me giggle. Ā They are some of the very few we have from the early 90s as most of our photos were stolen, along with other items, from the container when we moved here. Ā My love of harem trousers must have come from him – here we are at my Graduation Ball in 1992 – he was dressed in Turkish, tailor made, harem trousers with a tailcoat – and had more jewelry than me:)
Love the photo bombers in the back:)
So today, unintentionally, I realized I could be accused of channeling one of his favorite bands – The Clash. Ā Happy ‘when we started dating’ anniversary my lovely…
