25 years!

If you follow me on Instagram you may have noticed that my Husband and I celebrated a significant milestone on Monday – it was 25 years since we first hooked up, or started dating, however you want to call it! We were students in St. Andrews at the time and a few years ago I documented the evening here. Normally we celebrate this anniversary in a very low key fashion, leaving the extravagance to our wedding anniversary in September. Well my incredibly romantic husband ignored those rules this year and went above and beyond what was required or expected! We had a fabulous evening eating tacos and drinking margaritas – one I’ll remember for some time. Here’s to another 25 years and more!

He made me a card with all the places where we have lived in our 25 years, with a tribute to Bowie too as he knew how much I loved him!

For our night out I wanted to stay pretty casual and comfortable. I adore my Isabel Marant Otway boots that I found on eBay!

It’s that time of year in Atlanta where you have to dress to be prepared for all types of weather. On Saturday we had what appears to be a small tornado rip through the neighborhood – trees and telegraph poles down, with loss of power for many. Today it’s getting hot again with horrid humidity from all the rain. Thank goodness for AC!

I’m having some technical difficulties this week – my phone died after getting soaked in the rain and now my laptop is on the blink – you realize how much we rely on these gadgets when they don’t work! So hopefully I’ll be back up and running soon but in the meantime check out Shopbop’s surprise sale – up to 40% off!

A weekend of cheer!

If you follow me on Instagram you will have seen that my entire weekend was taken up with AllStar Cheer! Poppy had a competition with her team, here in Atlanta, on Saturday and then they performed at half time for the Georgia Tech women’s basketball yesterday! It was so much fun but my little girl is rather tired today, and a little bruised after taking a face plant from a stunt in practice! A rite of passage – her first sports injury – all teeth intact thank goodness – just a bloody nose and a bust lip! Can I just say too that boy, Georgia Tech has some amazing facilities! St.Andrews had little more than a football pitch and a gym back in 1990. The facilities at Georgia Tech are incredible – walking into the basketball arena is like walking into a pro facility. College here certainly isn’t what I grew up with!

In keeping with yesterday’s basketball theme I dressed the part and wore my Nike Af 1s for the day 🙂 Unfortunately as my Husband and I were driving off we realized much to our amusement that we were both in black harems and grey sweatshirts, his and hers outfits coordinating nicely!

On Thursday night I was supposed to be heading out for a girls night. Unfortunately due to various situations it got cancelled at the last minute. Talk about all dressed up with no where to go. I ended up back in my onesie with a bottle of wine at home!

After killing myself at spin on Friday I had little planned so I nipped out for lunch and then had a fun evening at home with a couple of girlfriends and their children.

Today there are plenty of people nursing hangovers. I, of course was very sensible and feel wonderful – and I am not being sarcastic! Crushed though I am for the loosing Seahawks, I am still replaying Missy Elliott on YouTube – she absolutely killed it at the halftime show!

So finally here is my comfy attire for today – plenty of knits required here!

That’s Superbowl weekend done and dusted for another year and I managed to stay away from the beer, nachos and wings – result!

Some punk inspiration.

I walked into the kitchen this morning to the sound of ‘You’re my favorite waste of time‘ – not sure if it was the Owen Paul version or the original version, but here’s the Owen Paul version from ’86, which I remember well.

After a bleary couple of seconds wondering why Nick Jr. wasn’t on the t.v. yet – I realized it was my lovely Husband’s way of reminding me that 22 years ago today, over a couple of Newkie Browns in The Central Bar, he announced he was ‘infatuated’ with me.  I remember the whole day so vividly – from bumping into him in the library, to the Moscow Mules, to the shock and delight of discovering he ‘was into me’ (I told the story here last year).  He was, and still is, the antithesis of every other guy I had dated – non-conformist, smart, sensitive and charming (not sure how many of my exes read this – they might not anymore!) – I had a pretty good feeling this one was a keeper.

As the summer of ’91 progressed, our relationship hit the fast track.  Within a couple of months we were planning our first vacation together.  He was studying for his PhD in Byzantine History so it seemed natural to head for Turkey – somewhere I had never been before – but I was excited to have my personal tour guide.  Our first overseas adventure was thrilling – back packing down from Istanbul, via various Roman ruins (and bars), to Side on The Mediterranean, where we drank Efes in the sun.  It was the trip that sealed the deal for me – he was the ‘one’ – oh and he was hot too – look at the hair and those soccer playing legs!:))

These next photos made me giggle.  They are some of the very few we have from the early 90s as most of our photos were stolen, along with other items, from the container when we moved here.  My love of harem trousers must have come from him – here we are at my Graduation Ball in 1992 – he was dressed in Turkish, tailor made, harem trousers with a tailcoat – and had more jewelry than me:)

So today, unintentionally, I realized I could be accused of channeling one of his favorite bands – The Clash.  Happy ‘when we started dating’ anniversary my lovely…
