How many pairs of sneakers does a girl need?

Hmm well replace ‘need’ with ‘want’ and it seems to be never ending! I’ve had a love affair with sneakers/trainers since I was young when I cherished my Dunlop Green Flash. My Mum would whiten them for me, which inevitably resulted in crusty shoes, as you were in effect putting white paint on them that cracked once it dried! I soon moved onto Converse and they were my staple at University – I had a green pair and a lilac pair. Of course once the 90s arrived it was all about the Adidas Gazelles. Interestingly I still have Gazelles and Converse in my collection – but no Green Flash! Do they even still sell them?

So going back to the question I have so many sneakers now that I cannot ever say ‘I need those’ when it comes to a new pair. I have running shoes, sneakers for fashion and even sneakers-to-wear-with-work-out-gear-when-I’m-not-actually-working-out, as my husband duly noted this morning. Due to my rather large collection of sneakers, these days I tend to wait for the sales to add a new style, or a new color, to the mix. Many of the sneakers you will see in the sale are the same style as the new season, but just a different selection of colors. So unless you are buying high performance running shoes you won’t be missing out on any new technology!

Nike very kindly just sent me a code for an extra 20% off clearance – BACK2SPORT. Some of my favorite casual sneakers are the Nike Internationalist. These are currently on sale so you will get your extra 20% off making them just $48, reduced from the regular price of $85. I have a couple of pairs at home and I can vouch for their comfort.

While on the Nike site I fell hard for these – bright red but I adore Air Max! These would be amazing with black skinnies and a black cashmere sweater.

If you are looking for some serious running shoes you can’t go wrong with the Lunar Flyknits. I always go up half a size at least for running to give me plenty of room in the toe box. These are in the sale, in a couple of colors, reduced from $150, with an extra 20% off too!

Finally – (not on sale – don’t shoot me) – I spotted some amazing colors new on the J.Crew site. These always sell out super fast as they are custom colors unique to J.Crew. I’m definitely getting my hands on this olive and pink pair.

The classic navy pair are gorgeous and a little more subtle.

I wore a pair of my 620s yesterday, then I forgot to take a photo of them! I was dashing from one place to another and, take it from me, they added a little pace around the supermarket!

On Friday I made the trip to IKEA. One I try to do only x2 a year. This time of year is NOT the time to go as every GA Tech and GA State student is there trying to furnish their abode for the next year! As a side note I used to be quite a snob about cooking utensils and pots and pans – but IKEA do some fabulous pots and pans and baking ware!

Today it’s back to work. I dropped Stella, our white boxer, at the vet today to have a mast cell tumor removed. Very common in boxers but still I hated leaving her there!

My sneaker obsession

Weren’t those sneakers in my last post awesome? I cannot wait for them to arrive. For some reason I seem to have developed a New Year sneaker obsession. Maybe it is my desire to simplify and opt for simple classics as opposed to wild one hit wonders?

I made lots of sartorial errors last year but one major improvement I made to my closet was to add some navy and blue pieces. I love neutrals but I was getting tired of grey and black. Some navy pieces added a little extra something to my closet, and it is another style pointer that is endorsed by my new handbook “How to be Parisian…”. So why not add another pair of sneakers that also happen to be navy…and classics…? Introducing the navy Stan Smith from Adidas.

Or if you prefer leopard print how about the black?

Or a spin on the classic white?

My Husband is a fan of classic sneakers having worn red hi-top Converse and Adidas classics all his life. He’s often encouraged me to seek out the classic Nike Air Force 1 hi-top and I have so far been reluctant as they always looked so big and awkward. That is till I saw these on NAP. A new, slimmer, more feminine version of the classic. I totally adore them.

It’s always dangerous on NAP at this time of year when new season stock is arriving daily. I also fell in love with this cobalt pair. Just stunning.

This neutral pair remind me of my Isabel Marant Bobbys, a much cheaper option and yet maybe even cooler?

I can’t buy these as they are patterned. But if they adhere to your 2015 fashion rules go for them – they are fabulous. Adidas originals by Mary Katrantzou:

As for my wardrobe choices over the past couple of days it has all been based on warmth. With temperatures at 10 degrees Fahrenheit on Thursday it called for fur, boots and polo necks.

On Wednesday morning, after returning from dropping the kids at school, I was confronted with a guy in our yard trying to break into the house. I immediately went into fright or flight mode and just started yelling “F*ck off! F*ck off! What the f*ck do you think you’re doing??!!!”. I was very eloquent. I’m not sure if he was more scared of me or Tennyson, my fabulous, loyal, protective, boxer who immediately went into attack mode. I was slightly impressed by the dude’s agility and speed at getting back over our fence. I suddenly realized he may be armed so I headed back inside to call 911 while Tennyson told him in no uncertain terms that he would not be welcomed back.

Tennyson now has his new sign in the front yard which really should say “Beware of the big, bad ass, dog”.

The hero of the hour who has been spoiled rotten since.

It took me the day to recover from the adrenalin – I was shaken to say the least – but I felt I dealt with it appropriately and I’m moving on now. I think they could hear me yelling in Florida!

Tuesday I headed to H&M to exchange some clothes for Poppy. I took the opportunity to take a look at this gorgeous fringed top I had seen online. I needed to understand why it is priced at $349!! It is a lovely blue, but crikey I wouldn’t pay $20 for it. The tassles feel really cheap and were already tangling and getting knotted on every top in the store. Not to mention the top must have weighed 100lbs. You’d need to be a line backer to wear it for more than 10 minutes.

Here’s my outfit for the day – I felt really comfortable, it’s great to wear skirts again – crap photo – I blinked:)

Yes I know sneakers are everywhere right now and every blogger, magazine and newspaper, it seems, has featured them – so it’s my turn with a pick of some of my favorites. I have been a sneaker/trainer advocate for some time and always used to make a point of buying them cheap from the US, when we first started traveling here. Friends laughed at me when I described my various pairs of trainers that were either for ‘fashion’ or ‘fitness’ – well you don’t want to wear smelly trainers that you worked out in down at the pub!

My favorites were, and probably always will be, the Nike Air Max ’95s. I had a pair of grey with green and a pair of blue with orange, which I adored and wore both till they fell apart – unusual for me!

I am also a big lover of hi tops and again Nike tends to be my go to brand. I love these Dunk wedge sneakers that they have designed. As you see, like my trousers, I like my sneakers loud!

Going old school – I love these Vans – perfect with skinnies or boyfriend jeans with a simple sweatshirt for a great tomboy look.

These new Adidas ones have caught my eye too. I love Adidas and have a pair of navy Gazelles. I had a pair of green ones that I hunted high and low for back in the early 90’s when Ms. Moss made them a must have item. These hi-tops are a grey marl jersey fabric – they look super comfy and I can’t resist grey marl ever – even on sneakers.

Finally, of course, we can spend a little more should we so wish. Waiting in my closet to be worn are a pair of Marant Bobby sneakers. As soon as the rain disappears they will be on my feet – I adore them and they are the perfect color for summer with shorts.

After Kat reminded me about the Ash Virgins, I took a peek at their new Spring sneakers and I am currently yearning for a pair of Ash Virgin star cutouts in silver – they’d be awesome with boyfriend jeans and my Zara red leather jacket:)

Coincidentally my past few outfits have revolved around sneakers. On Saturday night we went out to our lovely neighbors for little get together. It was a fabulous night, late and indulgent and the kids had a blast too. I wore my new Matalan maxi skirt, old Gap striped t-shirt, Boden Union Jack scarf (old), Gap denim jacket (old) and white Converse.

Today I went for comfort, and rain is expected so the Bobby sneakers are still in their box! I bought these Nike sneakers over a year ago and love the girly pink trim on them:)
