Sometimes things just don’t work out the way you imagined…

So the blonde hair…it’s going tomorrow.  I am going back to my roots.

After a week of scaring myself in the mirror and trying to make my complexion look less jaundiced, I’ve given in and I am going back to my roots tomorrow.  Glossy, dark chocolate locks here I come.  I wanted a change which is why I thought I’d try the lighter locks but, to be honest, with my skin tone I feel so washed out, and my hair is so dark that I already can see root growth.  The maintenance would kill me!

It was really after seeing the following photo that I decided not to persevere any longer.  I love this jacket but I look so drab and dreary in it with lighter hair.  I’ve also binned the shoes – I loved them once but again I think the pink/nude color does me no favors whatsoever.  If it ain’t broke don’t fix it – I should know by now to stick with my dark palette – in fact I should ask Donna over at I Won’t Wear Sludge Brown to do a color reading for me.

I am of course eternally grateful to my hairdresser for squeezing me in tomorrow before I leave on my trip this weekend!

Yesterday I was running some errands and I happened to nip into Neiman Marcus – as you do.  I rarely go in department stores as I think I’ve mentioned before I can find them overwhelming.  However, my eyes were opened by Neimans – what have I been missing!?  I had a quick look around the contemporary store – CUSP.  So many great brands like Vince, Rag & Bone, Alice & Olivia, Helmut Lang and even Isabel Marant – I had no idea there was a stockist here in Atlanta!  I may have found myself trying on some J.Brand leather jeans…just for size of course…for the record they fit big…I got into a 28″ because they are so beautifully stretchy.

I then headed to the shoe department – again I found my favorite Rag & Bone Newbury boots along with the Vince Nina flat that is back in an array of colors this Spring.  I was totally smitten by the sale shelf – I nearly cried with joy when I saw Isabel Marant boots and Chloé Suzanna boots less than half price!

Beautiful hairy Newbury boots in the sale:

These Saint Laurent boots made me stop in my path – just stunning and they totally remind me of my Zara boots (yet to be worn).

So now I know what an Aladdin’s Cave Neiman Marcus is it could truly be catastrophic.  It’s a good job I don’t like mall shopping…

Today I had one last go at dealing with the blonde but headed back to my comfort zone when it comes to colors.

Absolutely right decision! Your hair is gorgeous … as a brunette! But hey! It’s only hair so good for you for having a go at a different colour. I do it all the time when I’m bored and it’s easy to change it back again. Have a safe flight … remember to leave some room in those suitcases for the shopping you’ll be doing .. and SEE YOU NEXT WEEK!!!!!!!

I thought it looked great but if you are not happy then you are not happy .. hair is SO important to a woman and how it makes her feel.
I am so excited to see you in less than 2 weeks – WHOOP!

I have dark brown hair and always every spring think I can have a few blonde highlights…and every year I hate it! I think after a couple of days it just starts to look orange…it just changes how everything looks, all of your clothes and make-up. I never learn but maybe this year I will stick with brown! Mel x

I thought it looked great and you could never look drab and dreary! – but as Fiona says most important thing is how you feel. Xx

I could maybe have given it more time but the roots were already causing me grief every time I looked in the mirror!

Well, I liked the blonde on the Facebook pictures but now I see it here, I agree. You look younger with it dark..just suits you way better. LOVE the AW bag…OMG…bring it to London so I can stroke it! xx

I thought your hair looked great Joanna, although lighter, you still sat in the deep palette well. Sometimes dark eyed ladies go really blonde and it looks odd, kind of grates on the eye when you’re looking at her but subtle tones like yours work well. I know what you mean about feeling uncomfortable though. It can be hard on your complexion. I went dark by accident a few years ago and it was just too strong for me. I had to change my whole make up to balance it out. Couldn’t do anything about the eyes though! Thanks so much for the mention and how hot do you look in your dress. Fish those bloody shoes out of the bin and bring them with you next week, they’re lovely x

Definately prefer your hair dark – it’s striking, but the lighter colour is a bit mehhh. I agree, you should get those shoes out of the bin! I would style them with charcoal cropped bistro trousers and a similar colour top and then a scarf with the blush colour in it. Think they’re fab! I love, love, love the H&M dress on you and love how you’ve styled it. Enjoy your trip to Blighty but don’t forget wellies and a rainmac lol xxx

I think I will always see you as a brunette even when you have blonde, orange or red hair! I think it does look glossier when it’s dark. And I love your last outfit! I saw that dress pop up on the H&M site but not seen it in real life – it looks good on you!

As a fair skinned brunette, I know I would have the same washed out look as you are feeling… I love carmel hightlights or my newest reddish brown… Since my mother was a redhead,it seems to work well…The fun part about hair is that you can play with it and aren’t stuck if you don’t like it…

I love ombre highlights – that’s how I started on the slippery slope:) My hairdresser actually left a couple of ends at the front with blonde – I feel super now! xx
