My Halloween costume

So now my See by ChloƩ boots have arrived I have the choice of Puss in Boots or Captain Hook! These boots will be perfect with a frilly blouse and jacket and some fab makeup!

I am THRILLED with them. They are the softest leather and have a suede interior so they stay up really well – the suede ‘sticks’ or ‘clings’ to your skin or jeans. They have a lovely slouch to them and the foot of the boot is super comfy. I have my regular 38.5 and they are perfect – definitely true to size.

I love the tan version too – they’d be gorgeous with all grey or winter white.

As always with great ‘it’ boots of the season there are some fabulous tributes around. The best I’ve seen are the Desert fringe boot from TopShop. You’d be hard pushed to tell the difference and they get great reviews.

Before I go I must share these fab finds from TheOutnet.com – it is killing me browsing on there at the moment – I must resist!

This beautiful Alexander Wang Diego in Beet/Merlot is 45% discounted.

Finally my outfit from yesterday – I got dressed only to go to the Doctors and be told I just had a bad cold. Yes I know that thanks – viral not bacterial so no antibiotics required!

I don’t like to save…

Because I enjoy spending money far too much! My parents and husband will confirm it! Thank goodness I still work and earn my way…Ok so now I’ve set it up I will tell you about aĀ couple of things that happened this week…

First these arrived.

Chloes 1 ChloesBoots – ChloĆ© Susanna // Trousers – Zara // Top – AllSaints (use EXTRA20 for 20% extra off sale) // Jacket – Mango // Bag – McQ Alexander McQueen // Sunglasses – Chanel

I was nervous as hell waiting for them as all the reviews said to size down in the ChloĆ© Susannas, then more recent reviews said stay true to size. I knew I really wanted navy – different from black, yet still versatile. The blue on NAP have all sold out (though the merlot are lovely). Then I found one pair left at ShoeScribe.com (owned by NAP – or the other way around?). Only ShoeScribe.com only had whole sizes. I took a chance and ordered the last pair of 39s. Now sizing charts are different EVERYWHERE. It drives me bonkers. Plus there is the Fr 39 and the IT 39 which is apparently different too! I am normally a US 8.5 but I have a pair of Sam Edelman boots labelled US 8.5 and Eur 40!? So as you can imagine I was uncertain as to whether the 39s I ordered would be like boats, or if they would screw my toes up. Fortunately neither – they are perfect! I do have wide feet though so maybe that helps them fit more snuggly as the ankle is quite wide/loose on them and I’ve heard if you have a narrow foot the heel can slip. Anyway after a week of debate and umming and ahhing – even packing them back in the box to return them – I decided it was destiny – and they are here to stay! I’m pretty thrilled with them, if skint for a while!

Ok now these don’t seem nearly as extravagant in comparison as I got 25% off too with the Saks Friends and Family event last week. My new Prada sunglasses.

I love them – I’ve coveted them for a while especially as these have plain arms as I am not a fan of the art deco swirly ones that seem to be ubiquitous here in Atlanta.

So I am a very happy girl. Now I just have to scrape some pennies together for my husband’s birthday next week šŸ˜‰ (Joking darling – it’s all taken care of…xx).

As for today I headed to our local craft store. I am NOT crafty at all but once again this year our school project is to create a book character using a pumpkin. My challenge is to create The Highway Rat, my son’s favorite picture book – I have a mask at least! Wish me luck!

As I had to drive by the mall on the way home I nipped in for a browse. There are lots of sales on right now! I haven’t ventured in a Banana Republic since my corporate days but our Lenox Mall one has recently had a refit so I popped in for a gander. I absolutely fell in love with this cardigan/cape!

In store they are just $58 reduced from $98 but they are here online too. The khaki is lovely in real life. I opted for a M/L for an oversize fit.

Building the closet.

Friday was spent in IKEA.Ā  MM and I finally decided to bite the bullet and buy part of, if not most of our closet.Ā  We’d decided that based on price and aesthetics the IKEA PAX system is the way to go, and yes we had discussed the potential chaos and crankiness that will inevitably result from the 2 of us spending the next 20 years sitting in a windowless walk in closet assembling flat packs.Ā  But we still bought it.Ā  After dragging the enormous boxes off the shelves ourselves we opted for the delivery option, and unsur-freakin-prisingly they only delivered half the boxes last night.Ā  Now we have to wait for the second half to be delivered today.

MM thinks we can have it built in a week – I’ll be ecstatic if I can hang stuff before Christmas.Ā  I might have to start drinking again (I’ve not imbibed since Louisville – a record for me).

Yesterday I ran for the first time in a while and felt great – foot feels healed and I sweat buckets – it was great to be out there again…The weather was perfect too – really cool but sunny.Ā  Unfortunately by 3pm it’s back to 80 degrees F so deciding what to wear is a real conundrum.Ā  Layering seems to be the way to go.

Yesterday I wore my Zara cargo pants, Zara owl t-shirt and AllSaints Cerulean cardigan.Ā  I did have to swap it out for a heavier knit last night while watching the debate.Ā  I refuse to put the heating on yet!Ā  Shoes are Tory Burch Eddies.

Today it’s a completely random look and though comfy I don’t really feel ‘me’.Ā  The idea was to wear a short sleeved dress so I’m prepared for the warm afternoon – but I feel a bit too girly in this H&M skater dress.Ā  I added a Boden cashmere cardigan (the most superior cashmere knits I’ve ever found), Boden leggings, a copy of the Anthropologie necklace that was huge a couple of years ago, and my Banana Republic round toe pumps – yes heels!Ā  I haven’t worn heels in the day since I quit the corporate world!

How many skinny jeans does a girl need?

5 years ago I would never have imagined that my staple wardrobe piece would be my skinny jeans.Ā  I always wore boot cut and felt way too paranoid to wear such tight fitting jeans.Ā  They brought back memories of pinstripe and bleached skinny jeans from the early 80s that I had to fasten lying on the bed, sometimes using a coat hanger hooked to the fly to get enough leverage to fasten the damn things they were so tight!Ā  Then after putting on weight with my pregnancies the word ‘skinny’ just was not enticing enough for me to want to try them.Ā  Then once I started running it became apparent that my legs might be an area of my body to enhance rather than conceal and now my Hudsons are my ‘go to’ trousers.Ā  I’ve since been branching out into colored jeans and printed jeans though I tend to spend far less on these as I don’t think they’ll be around forever.

I’m still waiting for the leopard print and snakeskin jeans from H&M to make an appearance in my local store – I’m hoping they should appear soon as the snakeskin ones have even been featured in the August issue of Real Simple.

In the mean time I found some delicious pink jeans there for $30!Ā  They are super soft, stretchy and REALLY comfortable – they looked fab on Saturday night when we went out to dinner with friends. I wore them with my Zara floral jacket, Zara top from the sale for $25, Banana Republic nude Jacky pumps from 3 years ago (?) and my Steve Madden ruffle clutch.Ā  I loved the outfit and it felt so summery – a great jacket does wonders for a pair of jeans.Ā  Thrilled with my new shorter haircut too – O’Neil is a genius:)

I’m still looking for the perfect blush/nude pink and have seen these here at Express but I think they are overpriced compared to elsewhere, so my brighter pink ones will do for now.Ā  I think a blush color will be perfect and could be worn into the Fall whereas the brighter pink is definitely more summery.

Which have been your favorite skinny jeans this summer?
