Health kick

It was a VERY indulgent weekend.  Gifts, cards, food, spirits, wine and cigars…uuurgh I paid for it yesterday.  I had a fabulous birthday thanks to the generosity of friends and family, but now it’s time to begin my 44th year with some healthier choices.  I just signed up for the Atlanta Half Marathon on Thanksgiving Day.  I’ve done it a couple of times before and it is great fun, a lovely way to earn your Thanksgiving dinner.  Only problem is 13 miles seems an awfully long way right now.  I need to get my training plan written – oh and then actually execute the plan 🙂  I have a while to contemplate it, before I start adding the miles to my little 2 mile jog with the dog.

My birthday started with a run – I was well impressed!  Then I was drinking prosecco and eating red velvet cake by 10.30am!  We headed out for lunch to one of our favorite spots – Nuevo Laredo – where I ate way too much and was surprised with a birthday shot.  Yep you read right – no cupcakes here – a shot of tequila with a cherry on top at 2pm.  I had to drink it all in one while the rest of the restaurant sang Happy Birthday.  Fun times…

For lunch I decided to wear an old, favorite AllSaints dress (similar here) with my nude Sam Edelman Yazmines (on sale here).

The Yazmines are high but really comfortable given the block heel.

Today we’re being covered by cloud and it really feels quite Fall like here.

I’m off out with the girls tonight to continue some celebrations – yeah that health kick might wait till tomorrow.

Patterned pants.

I have blogged before about my love for patterned trousers.  They always seem to make a more prominent appearance in my closet at this time of year.  They are a great transitional piece – lighter than jeans but still providing coverage, plus it’s easy to incorporate some spring colors in an outfit with them.

I’ve only added one pair to my closet this season – these from Zara, who always offer an amazing array of patterned trousers.

I love any kind of animal print so these Marks and Spencer Per Una ones keep catching my eye – especially as they are on sale currently, with limited sizes left.

Mango hit my radar last year when I picked up a couple of great patterned harems in their sale.  These are fabulous in this seasons collection.

I’d be buying this pair if I didn’t have my linen harems from last year.

Here I am in my Zara pants today.  Off to the Doctors, sniff, sniff, with a horrid head cold which I need to kick it into touch before our beach trip!

Yesterday was also a day for some comfy trousers – these are the Next harems that I bought last year.  If you are interested in dipping your toe in the ‘harem pool’ – take a peek at Fiona’s post here – she’s picked some great ones to peruse.

So patterned pants – will you be sporting a pair this season?

Day of rest.

After 4 days of manic workouts to try and shift the Tybee indulgences I opted for a day of rest.  It has been welcomed by my body though my mind is restless – I think I’m just plain tired.  I’m glad I did rest as it was freezing cold at the bus stop this morning then sweltering as I arrived home this afternoon – neither option tempted me out for a run.  Plus I got to rest my foot which is still bugging me after rolling it playing tennis 3 weeks ago.  I can’t have broken anything as I’ve run on it, but it’s stiff and bruised on the top near the ankle making me aware of every step.  Frustrating to say the least with less than 2 weeks to go to the Lake Lanier Zooma half.  Anyway I’ve been following RunningInMommyland‘s advice and writing the alphabet with my big toe which seems to be loosening the tightness – and of course the ice pack helps.  All due to prancing around on a tennis court for the first time in 12 years!  On the bright side I have a back pocket excuse in case I choke on the 22nd:)

I did get out for a quick 4 miles in yesterday which was fun in my new Newtons!  All around I’ve seen more and more people opting for them and raving about them…so I caved and bought some to make me run fast.  I’m glad I visited the running store as I discovered I’d been wearing shoes at least 1/2 size too small – hence the nasty blisters in the Georgia half – which I’d attributed to poor fitting socks.  That news gave me all the justification I needed to buy these beauties and on my first outing in them I’m optimistic – they felt great even with the stiff foot.

Newton Gravity

No one in this house wanted to get up this morning – first Monday back after a fabulous spring break was a tough one.  Thankfully I’d chosen my wardrobe quickly last night before jumping in bed.  It always saves me at least 10 minutes, which are crucial at 6am when I have an almost 6 year old deliberating over her attire each day.

So today I opted for my old faithful French Connection polka dot tee, my favorite AllSaints Cerulean cardigan (I SO want the grey in this too!), Hudson Collin jeans and Sam Edelman Alvin shoes in black – perhaps the most comfortable shoes I own.

Day of rest.
