The real me.

Okay so I know I said I was trying to grow my hair and many of you were very good at encouraging me but I have no staying power.  Actually I polled a couple of people who I knew would give me their honest opinion.  One being MM who said even though he likes my hair long he prefers it short.  This kinda made me question my sanity.  Why would I go through the hell of growing my hair, especially in the heat and humidity of an Atlanta summer when MM prefers it short?  In addition to that, and more importantly I think, I actually prefer it short – I feel like the real me with it short if that makes sense…?  So instead of opting for a painful summer of bouffant frizz I booked myself in to see my favorite hairdresser O’Neil at Van Michael in Virginia Highlands.  He seemed quite happy to see me back and though we agreed that as short as my previous cut was not for me, he also agreed that he favors short hair on me – so he proceeded to de-mullet me.  I now know for sure that I am a short hair kinda gal as I immediately felt groomed, sassy and a little more urban and a little less mumsy.  Hurray for that hey?

I told you yesterday that I had ordered the Zara Basic sandal – sad news folks I had to cancel the order.  On a whim I popped into the store here to see if they had the black in my size but it turns out no size is my size.  My feet are too wide to get in them so my little toes were left perching over the front strap – not a good look.  The search for the perfect sandal for my feet continues.  It has to be said though if you have narrower feet and regular toes the sandals are gorgeous.  In order to raise my spirits again I headed into H&M for a ‘browse’.  Now in my case there is no such thing as just a browse in H&M – I always see something worth buying.  Today I got 3 fabulous linen blend long sleeve tops from their Basics line – coral, cream and brown – at $17.95 each they are perfect for throwing on over a tank.  I’ve trawled their website and can’t find an image so will post a photo soon.

To help take me from 40 year old mom to 40 year old hot chick (tongue in cheek here Daily Mail readers!!) I wore my AllSaints Coli top, Gap black legging jeans and my lovely Sam Edelman Alvin loafers.

So what do you think of the new haircut?

Window shopping.

With the impending house renovations I REALLY am trying to curb my personal spending.  It’s hard though.  Sometimes I try to ‘bulk’ buy at the start of a season and tell myself ‘right I’m done now, I have this season’s closet, no more purchases needed’.  It never works.  I should know by now that the canny retailers keep us coming back month after month, or week after week in some cases, as their new items hit the stores.  I thought that by ceasing my visits to the mall this would stop me from seeing anything new and therefore my austerity measures would be intact.  Only problem is I use my computer every day and for some reason when I need a break I find myself visiting BodenUSA.com, US.AllSaints.com or today it was Zara.com.  I’m an online window shopping addict – or should that be just shopping addict?

Several things unfortunately caught my eye today that I am now lusting after.  This gorgeous top is from AllSaints and is the perfect little number for summer cocktails.

Paired with these Petrel Brodie jeans in vintage pink it would look fabulous.  I actually want these jeans in all the colors available and I’m planning a little trying on session soon with my favorite AllSaints employee, Charlie, at the Bloomingdale’s concession in Lenox Mall!

I was inspired to visit the Zara website after visiting Doesmybumlook40.blogspot.com blog by Kat back in England.  She also got a mention in the Daily Mail article and I love her style – very urban chic and she accessorizes brilliantly.  She loves Zara and though we have one here in Atlanta I rarely go in there.  Now unfortunately I have discovered that their website is brilliant and what’s even better is that free shipping is standard – hooray!

It’s their shoes I have particularly fallen in love with.  These black pumps are just gorgeous and are on my wish list.

Now these sandals were on my wish list but as I kept flipping back to them this morning I managed to convince myself that $50 for a pair of fabulous looking sandals was too good to miss – so they are now heading my way courtesy of UPS.  I need to earn more money as I want them in every color.  I hope they fit as I find sandals really hard to buy – I have funny sticky out toes and they get stuck in strappy sandals and hang out of the sides – an appalling look, so I’m hoping this single strap at the front will keep my little toes safely ensconced.

I now feel horribly guilty about ordering them as we just went to pick granite out for the new bathroom and kitchen counter tops.  Of course the granite we like is the most expensive – surely $50 sandals won’t stop me getting the granite of my choice?

It’s raining here today so a bit cooler than it has been.  I decided to take advantage of it and wear some jeans while I can.  These are dark green legging jeans from Gap, worn with a snake print tee shirt from Express and my black patent Tory Burch Eddies.  My studded cuff is also Tory Burch.  I car pooled with MM today so was lucky enough to have a photographer – thanks honey:)

Football and pulled pork.

This weekend has been crazy – or ‘craaayyy-zee’ as we seem to say in the South.  My children’s schedules seem to be getting out of control.  What with school, sports, birthday parties and play dates I am beginning to see their social calendars dictate my weekend.  This morning we were out of the house at 9.30am to be at Hippo Hop for a party at 10am!  Still it was lots of fun and I caught up with some daycare moms that I hadn’t seen for a while.  Then after a swift lunch my daughter headed off for a play date while I ran 8miles with a friend in the glorious sunshine.  We even saw 3 deer run across in front of us – it was amazing and well worth the aches I’m nursing now.

Needless to say I am thoroughly relieved not to be heading to a Superbowl party for beer and chilli.  While I recover from my run MM is making homemade salsa with his new pestle and mortar (yes I am spoiled) to eat with some delicious pulled pork.  I’m not even sure I will make it to half time but at least I will sleep well.

Go Giants!

My ‘throw on’ outfit today as I hurriedly got ready was my favorite AllSaints Portland jumper, Gap boyfriend jeans, and Tory Burch musk Eddies, accessorized with my fabulous orange Casio G-Shock watch – comfy casual – just how I like my Sundays.  Sorry no photo available of my even more comfortable current attire of Adidas bright pink sweats, tee and Ugg slippers🙂

Lust for Life

Yesterday was brilliant.  We had a fabulous meeting with our daughter’s lovely teacher – I love her candor and humor, it’s very refreshing.  I’m so proud of my little girl it makes me teary eyed.  In order to try and engender the association of achieve and reward we went out to our favorite diner for dinner and had milkshakes all round, it was a lovely family evening.  We were all exhausted afterward though, so it was an early bedtime for the kids and another recorded episode of Downton Abbey for me:)

It was a struggle to get out of bed this morning and I didn’t have time for an invigorating run due to a hairdressers appointment.  Armed with my photos of Ginnifer Goodwin I arrived and demanded my shorter cut.  My hairdresser is fabulous and always seems to understand my descriptions and then refines them to best suit me.  If you are in Atlanta and in need of a great hairdresser, who is humorous and conversational too, then seek out O’Neil at Van Michael in Virginia Highlands – you will love him I promise.

To coordinate with my shorter style I wore my Gap black jeggings, Frye Shirley Strappy Short boots, AllSaints Char jumper and my lovely Boden military jacket.  MM encouraged my shorter style, though has since made comments suggesting I should be in Roxette or that I’m channeling David Bowie’s Berlin era – maybe I’ll try a more feminine look tomorrow:)

A stormy saturday

Well the weather is downright crappy in Atlanta today – it hasn’t stopped raining all morning and my daughter’s swimming lesson was canceled due to the thunder and lightning.  I somehow still managed to muster the motivation to head the gym after a week of inactivity.  Caring for a poorly child this week has meant my usual routine has gone out the window and I’ve been climbing the walls waiting to get out of the house again, so now I am feeling invigorated after a good session on the bike.

I find Atlanta a tough place to entertain kids when it is wet – so many of our activities as a family involve the outdoors like playing soccer at the park, walking by the river or heading to Zoo Atlanta. It might have to be a movie and popcorn day which I’m fine with but could mean another day in sweatpants for me:( I really am a girl that likes having a place to go so I can make an effort and pick out some lovely clothes to wear. When I’m at home I’m always in sweats or jeans mainly because every sofa I sit on these days runs the risk of being covered in dog hairs! Owning 2 boxers, who admittedly have very short hair, means I’m constantly sweeping, vacuuming and brushing furniture – but then I am the one that has allowed them on the sofa for a cuddle and I’m not sure if you’ve tried it but it’s really difficult to teach a dog that they can only get on the warm, comfy sofa when I’m there…

Last night was quite a lazy evening for us but my friendly UPS man did pay us a visit again a brought me these lovely new Tory Burch Eddies in Tory navy.  So much of my wardrobe for spring seems to be red and navy and I already have a pair of red Revas so just needed a navy pair too – yes I did say ‘needed’…I’ll tell more of my Tory Burch shoe obsession another time….

Here’s the Boden tunic I forgot to post too yesterday – it’s the Chic Spotty tunic and I love it – ideal with skinny jeans or on it’s own and it’s a very slinky cotton knit – it feels lovely. I’m wearing it here with Tory Burch Eddies in musk which are currently in the sale and match perfectly.

Today’s outfit after much debate consists of my AllSaints Decay top which must be out of stock as I can’t find it on the US site, Gap jeggings and Nike 6.0 Dunk high tops. I’m embarrassed to say that I bought the high tops after seeing this photo of Heidi Klum wearing them – the only other thing we now have in common is a hot Husband:) Poor Tennyson is staring out of the window waiting for the rain to stop too…

So here’s to a day at home where Daddy is baking cupcakes and the most challenging thing I have to do is choose a nail polish color…
