A forgotten store – Uniqlo

My husband was asking me the other day where he should look for minimalist, contemporary trousers for himself. He loves James Perse but their prices are not so lovely. As I wracked my brain I suddenly remembered Uniqlo. It’s a store I always forget about – probably as we don’t have a bricks and mortar store here in Atlanta. I’ve made many great purchases from them over the years – particularly their knitwear and outerwear. As I was checking out the men’s section I figured I may as well take a quick peek at the women’s section!

Firstly I had forgotten how amazing their prices are! For great quality basics they are hard to beat. In fact my son has some of their long sleeve t-shirts and I swear the cotton feels so luxurious and soft – and yet I paid $9.99 for them in NYC last fall!

These pieces in particular caught my eye.

These dresses have a built in bra. Now for summer this is perfect – even I, with a generous bust, love a built in bra in the summer – so easy and no fiddling with bra hooks when its hot. Even better – its not a shelf bra that can often be unflattering resulting in a mono boob 😉 The bra in these dresses actually has soft cups to separate and give a flattering bust line.

Next up culottes are always a great choice for summer – easy to wear and cool – and these have a lovely elastic waist band. They are available in navy, black, beige and yellow – more of a mustard color.

This style is slightly dressier and can double as a skirt with the convenience of trousers. Available in black, navy, pink and beige.

I love a great jumpsuit and these are gorgeous – and JUST $19.90 right now!! A whole outfit for less than $20 and it gets rave reviews. Just perfect with sneakers during the day, then throw on a blazer or leather jacket and a pair of heels for dinner!

If you’re in the UK check out this style of jumpsuit. I’m not sure if they have sold out in the USA or if we’re waiting for them to arrive – regardless my sister has a package on its way to her that I can collect in May 😉 Again an absolute steal for £24.90! I think they are perfect for traveling – easy to pack and so versatile for sight seeing or dinner out.

So what do you think? Are you a regular Uniqlo shopper? What other items do you rate that I should be checking out?

As for my daily outfits – well last week I was on Spring Break so it was bikinis all week. If you saw on Instagram I am a HUGE fan of Athleta’s swimwear. Their fabrics are amazing quality and the tops and bottoms all come in various styles which you can mix and match – I love them! You can use this referral link and receive 20% off an item.

The leather jacket – but not a black one in sight!

I adore a leather jacket – I always have – and this season there is an abundance of fabulously colored jackets to try instead of the tried and tested black leather jacket.

Let’s begin with top dollar on the high street – and some of the best leather jackets out there in my opinion – AllSaints.

The Balfern jacket is a regular style – a real classic. There was a baby pink available in the leather version which may still be available in stores but has sold out online. However, my favorite on me is the coral.

The sky blue is really pretty – more of an egg shell blue.

Then there is suede – personally I prefer leather to avoid greasy finger marks – but this plait Balfern in clay pink is beautiful. It also comes in lemon yellow and luna blue here.

TheOutnet.com is always a great place to look for leather jackets. A couple of years ago I scored a gorgeously soft Maje jacket in a great orangey red. This Isabel Marant jacket in claret is 51% discounted.

This beautiful yellow jacket from IRO is 65% off.

Another amazing jacket from Isabel Marant at 68% off!

My favorite leathers this season are from Mango. They are always well priced, good leather and fit well. I actually just ordered this beautiful yellow leather jacket – I love the soft color with my coloring as opposed to some of the really vivid yellows. My skin is yellow enough thanks! I also love the plain neckline – most of my other leathers have a collar.

This red leather is fabulous – a really great price too.

I am super tempted by this blue jacket. I have a really deep indigo blue leather jacket from AllSaints but I really like this more summery blue here. I love the buckle detailing too.

Finally green – just the perfect green for me too – a deep forest green.

TopShop have a great vivid red suede jacket that will add instant cool factor to any outfit.

Of course whenever you’re in doubt of where to find something ASOS is the place to head! This beautiful pink suede is available in all sizes and reduced by $200!

This one is so similar to the AllSaints jacket – well except for the pice tag – this is $500 cheaper!

There is of course a tremendous selection of studded and embroidered jackets out there right now – I’m afraid they just don’t appeal to me and I think they will date quickly. I like my classic leather jackets but I really don’t mind what color they are. There simply is nothing better to throw over a dress or jeans all year round.

My FIL arrived last night so we have a fun week ahead. It’s his birthday on Sunday so hopefully we will indulge in a good meal out once all our cheer competition commitments are over! It’s also my nephew’s birthday tomorrow so HAPPY BIRTHDAY JACK!

Today I’m in one of my favorite jacket and top combos – and I may have new sneakers on 😉

The other day Poppy and I went for a browse in her favorite store – H&M. The neon shoe thing was complete coincidence I assure you!

Sneaker lust.

I love sneakers. Yes I do. I always have and I always head straight back to them when I need to get ready in a hurry. Whatever the style – throw on a blazer or leather jacket and jeans and you’re good to go for whatever the day may throw at you.

Here are a few of my current favorites.

I received these blush Thea last week and absolutely love them. They are the perfect color for spring and summer and will look great with tanned legs and denim shorts.

These are the flyknit version of the Thea and I wore these at the weekend for running errands. They are SO lightweight and comfortable, and they fit like a sock. I always size up half a size in the Theas.

I’m normally an Air Max girl when it comes to Nike – 90s or 95s. I’ve been wearing them years and wore the 95s all the time when we lived in London. I still remember them – I had a pair of grey and green and a pair of navy and orange. Now I am suddenly drawn to the Nike Huarache. I have never tried them on, but this is a shoe that I once thought was super ugly – now I am strangely drawn to them. My favorites are the Huarache ultra – I think they look super sleek and sharp in plain white:

These are gorgeous – out of stock on Nike.com here in my size so I’ve asked my sister to do me a favor for when I head home in May – in the UK they have all sizes here!

It’s spring (apparently Atlanta has forgotten today) and an injection of color is always welcome. These are FABULOUS! They are the Nike Air Huarache.

It’s easy to lose track of all the variations – ultra, air, and air premium to name but a few. These are the Nike Air Huarache Premium – I love the detailing on these.

Finally a curve ball. I am a loyal New Balance fan when it comes to running and working out. I haven’t found anything as comfortable and light as the 860 v7. I have a couple of pairs of New Balance for J.Crew which I love for their fun colors. These however are totally different and I LOVE them – especially in the burgundy and rose gold – the Vazee Rush lifestyle slip on. Use the code SHAMROCKS in the US for 15% discount.

All are probably quite polarizing – and I love them all – but then again I’ve yet to meet a sneaker that I won’t try!

Today Atlanta is FREEZING – I’ve had to dig out my knitwear and scarves again! Roll on short weather!

Old friends, a birthday, a Eurovision song contest and wedding talk!

It’s been one of those amazing weekends.  I still feel on a high, though slightly weary after a weekend of excesses.  Karin and Simon left this morning to head back to Stockholm but it was a memorable weekend.

Yes I did help choose the rings:)  I think Karin found my advice invaluable…BUT I have promised not to share photos of it before the wedding in August.  Needless to say it is a classic and stunning.   The boys and girls then parted ways, as the ladies took on some hardcore shopping.  Two pairs of Jimmy Choos, a Jimmy Choo clutch, a Coach handbag and a pair of ballet flats later Karin was all shopped out.  And you’ll never guess what – I didn’t buy a thing!! I was having so much fun offering advice that I got my shopping endorphins vicariously through Karin.

I did however do some ‘browsing’ and I fell seriously head over heels (pun intended) for these Miu Miu jazz shoes!

Had I had 2 glasses of wine at lunch instead of one I’m quite sure this McQueen clutch would have come home with me.

Then I took some photos of a potential birthday present – I like to help my Husband out with a couple of pointers:)

As for Karin’s haul here’s one pair of the gorgeous wedding shoes – these are for the ceremony.

Naturally we had to get a pair for dancing in too:)

This is the bag that Karin walked away with from Coach.  I adore the style – so slouchy and the interior design is perfect.  I am lusting after it in yellow.  Coach seem to have really upped their game recently and are moving away from the heavily branded C logo bags – thank goodness.

On Friday night after a tiring day of shopping we all headed out to our favorite restaurant where Simon proposed to Karin last year.  MUCH fun was had.  I was thrilled to wear my Ted Baker dress for the first time!

On Saturday it was Poppy’s birthday so after presents we went to her favorite BBQ joint for lunch.  Later that afternoon she had the time of her life dancing to the Eurovision Song contest!  We were SO excited that we managed to stream it live – quite giddy with excitement actually!

Yesterday we headed out for a little more shopping.  You’ll be relieved to know this time I did actually leave the Mall with something.  Two things in fact.  I am enamored with Gap at the moment and I left with 2 pairs of jeans.  The neon were in the sale in store but don’t appear to be online.

I LOVE these paint splattered skimmers.  Both pairs are very stretchy and I managed to get into a 27″ in both so definitely size down.

On Sunday night we headed out for steak and fabulous red wine.  Yummy – those 27″ might not fit today.

Poppy’s Style Closet Store

Just a quick note to let you all know that, disenchanted with eBay fees, I have opened a store front on Facebook!  Enjoy and I hope you find some great bargains!

I love the 80s

I hope all you US folks had a great long Labor weekend – we certainly did – very relaxing with a baseball game thrown in there for some good fun too.  Most of it was spent around the pool which in turn leads me to one big gripe I have living over here – why are so many Americans uncomfortable with nudity?

I really think next time around I need to come back French or Scandinavian or similar.  Leaving the pool on Sunday we were reprimanded by the lifeguard for changing our children by the pool instead of using the nasty changing rooms (someone must have had a party in there the night before).  Another swimmer had complained about us.  Now feel free to disagree, but anyone who is offended by a 4 and 6 year old changing discretely by the pool has some real issues.  I’m neither a prude nor a frequent visitor of nudist beaches, but when in France I often sunbathe topless and the last thing I want is for my children to have any hang ups about their naked bodies, or anyone else’s for that matter.  I want them to retain their innocence and cavort naked when they please – in the appropriate setting of course.  Unfortunately this is not the first time I have encountered this kind of concern about nudity here.  Once in the Y a woman complained to another lady changing her 3 year old son in the ladies changing room.  The complainer actually said it was ‘like pornography’ – I stepped in irate that anyone could suggest this about a naked 3 year old.  I was so angry I was almost in tears.  Please get over it – we all have the same bits, relax and stop imposing your hang ups on everyone else.

We were lucky enough on Sunday evening to head to Turner Field to watch the Braves.  MM and I used to go to the baseball quite often before the children arrived.  It is a fun spectacle – great for people watching and enjoying a hot dog and a cold beer or two.  Sunday was the first time we had taken the children and in Chipper Jones’ last season it was an important game.  We all had a fabulous time with great seats close to home plate.  We left at the 7th innings as the children were getting tired and the Braves were heading for defeat…unfortunately we missed a cracking final innings when the Braves won with a home run from Chipper!

For the game I wore my J.Crew chambray spotty shorts, AllSaints Tilly t-shirt and fab Ash Thelma wedges.  It always surprises me how comfortable these shoes are.

Once again I am loving the 80s and today I feel very Nik Kershaw with my baggy Top Shop pants and Zara jacket with rolled up sleeves.  Even the Sam Edelman Alvin loafers have a retro feel about them.  I’d fit right in back at Live Aid.

One last note – I’ve just had a vent on one of the posts on The Frye Company’s Facebook page.  They have just released some boots in collaboration with Coach.  Why oh why would they do this??  It is a dangerous partnership if you ask me with my marketing head on.  I cannot believe that their research tells them the same people that buy Frye buy Coach.  I am so disappointed – Coach has become a masstige brand and I fear the halo effect will reduce the credibility of the Frye brand…What do you think about brand partnerships?

My Push Present.

There’s been a lot of posts about bags recently especially given the launch of the new Mulberry Del Ray.  I realized that as I normally take my photos in the bedroom before leaving the house I never have my bag with me in my photos.  I don’t change bags often as I tend to have a couple of favorite, investment bags that I change by seasons.  MM is also a very good purchaser of bags so I tend to leave new handbags to him so I don’t ruin his options for birthdays and Christmas:)

Here’s my current bag in rotation – it’s a gorgeous hippy Coach bag that was bought for me by MM after my son was born in 2008.  It has a great fringe and a lovely braided strap and the color is perfect for spring/summer when I tend to wear less black.  It has worn so well and only gets better with age.  It’s also incredibly roomy so I can fit all my mommy gear in it too including a couple of sunglasses cases:)  These days I tend to steer clear of Coach as I see so many of them in the mall – it’s the perfect example of masstige, but this one isn’t obviously Coach and I love it more so for that.

Here’s my favorite collection of YSL bags and purses.  MM bought me the Roady for my 40th and then the clutch for our wedding anniversary last year.  The wallet and coin purse were a lovely surprise from him at New Year.  We had agreed not to purchase Christmas gifts for each other so he cheated and gave me these at New Year:)  I adore YSL and love how rarely you see the brand over here, at least in Atlanta.  I know the clutch and wallet are emblazoned with the logo, but I love the fact the Roady gives nothing away except for a tiny monogram on the handle.
