Keeping it feminine

With the new septum ring I am trying to keep things ultra feminine. It’s a very polarizing piercing and fortunately, so far, the majority of feedback has been positive! Or they may just be being polite 🙂 I find that reactions to piercings vary by generation and location. In my situation it is definitely a ‘fashion’ statement rather than one of rebellion. I spend a lot of time researching style images and maybe that is why I see that piercings can be sophisticated and elegant, as opposed to harsh and aggressive. The NYTimes ran an article here that makes interesting reading.

Here are some of the beautiful images that finally encouraged me to take the plunge.

Yesterday I got a good response to my outifit, however, I have to say I didn’t really feel me – I felt a bit ‘mumsy’ in the tunic and white jeans. I think I’ll prefer the tunic with shorts – I felt too much like I was wearing the ‘Atlanta Mom uniform’.

On Cloud 9

I’m feeling slightly giddy today – it’s going to be a good end to the week. We only have 3 1/2 weeks left of the school year and the kids are already counting down to our fun summer that we have planned, plus Poppy turns 9 on May 18th. I’m slightly befuddled as to how I ended up here with a 9 year old and a 7 year old! Not to mention on Saturday it will be 23 years since I had my first ‘romantic encounter’ with my Husband! 23 years dang it! That’s more than half my life! We’re planning a low key celebration with margaritas and tacos. I cannot wait 😉

Yesterday was glorious here – I walked the dogs and I swear we all had a spring in our step. I got the legs out to celebrate the presence of the sun. This dress is from last summer from ASOS. I had forgotten how much I love it. I was hesitant at first about the drop waist but I actually think it gives me some shape, and the asymmetrical hem emphasizes my legs. It’s one of those dresses that I always feel great in.

Today I’m going for comfort with the ecru overalls/dungarees from H&M. Super stretchy and an utter bargain at $20! I am totally smitten with the shoes. In fact this season Zara has amazing shoes but, for me, the rest of the collection falls a bit flat. I’m loving Mango’s SS15 far more!

So the reason for the giddiness and being on Cloud 9? Well I am thrilled, flattered and incredibly grateful to have been featured on two amazing style websites today. I am sure you will love reading both sites – they are packed with inspiration and tips.

Take a peek – YouLookFab.com and 40PlusStyle.com. It makes the ups and downs of blogging all worth while. If you have found me through these articles welcome, and I hope you enjoy my posts and return often!

Thank you everyone for your continued support – it means the world to me.

A lazy weekend at last

This is our first weekend at home for 3 weeks and we are all ready for it! We’ve had school testing for the past two weeks too so as a reward, and an early birthday present, I took Poppy to get her ears pierced on Thursday. I offered Hugh the opportunity too but oddly he wasn’t interested. My piercings may have put him off forever 😉

I wore my new Zara culottes which I love, but I’m not keen on this Zara top with them – I think a simple t-shirt would look far better. Hindsight and all that…These booties are awesome – they are slip on and run true to size and the heel is the perfect height to wear in the day. I plan to wear them a lot this summer with skinny jeans and crops. They remind me of the peep toe booties that Emmanuelle Alt loves to wear. They are currently on sale here.

Yesterday I treated myself to a pedi and headed out to lunch. Some well deserved ‘me time’ before having fun with a house full of children in the evening. I love the lighter evenings and warmer weather – it’s great to see the kids playing outside with friends while I catch up with their moms! I kept it simple and I absolutely love this drapey Splendid top. Flip flops were required for the pedi!

Today we were all a tad tired and cranky after the late night shenanigans. Even the dogs get pissy if they don’t go to bed at their regular time! We ended up having a lovely lazy day and went to the movies to watch Home. I loved it – tears, laughter and a great soundtrack. Then we filled our stomachs with BBQ – mmmm baby back ribs all round thank you. A perfect way to spend a rainy Saturday. I know the sandals are love or loathe but I had at least 5 compliments wearing them today – they are certainly eye catching!

I’ve just landed on the sofa after a lovely bath and plan to spend the evening with a cup of tea and a few episodes of Mad Men. I’m dreading the day I finish all the episodes!

More khaki

Khaki is having a moment this season and it wasn’t till I started looking in my closet that I realized how much khaki I actually already own. It’s a great color that suits fair and darker complexions. I particularly love a khaki trouser – like a loose cargo pant. These were an absolute bargain from J.Crew and I love the knitted cuff on them.

There are lots of midseason sales on currently including AllSaints, Zara and Mango and my favorite spring top is included in Mango’s reductions. Enjoy!

The simple jumpsuit

I have always loved jumpsuits. This time of year is when I most appreciate them. A great jumpsuit can take you from day to night with a simple change of shoes or jacket. I particularly love a great jersey jumpsuit that offers supreme comfort and looks fabulous with sneakers or heels. My favorites are from Splendid and though they are expensive at full price I have been really lucky in the sales on Net-a-Porter.com or on TheOutnet.com. ASOS also offer a reliable, diverse choice of other brands of jumpsuit.

As always browsing on Pinterest has led to trouble. I’ve been lusting after this jumpsuit forever since I saw this image:

And look what I found on TheOutnet.com just now while writing this post…

Other Pinterest images that have given me inspiration include the following, demonstrating the humble jumpsuit’s versatility.

Today I’m wearing my Splendid grey jumpsuit that I got in the sale on NAP over Christmas – it’s the same as the khaki I wore here. I’m afraid my kids have been playing with the camera so all photos are super bright today – sorry – it’s fixed now!

Jeans and t-shirts

Always a reliable combination at this time of year when it can go from the 80s to low 60s and back, even within a day here! I’m not sure how many pairs of jeans I own these days but I have definitely put my skinnies aside in favor of boyfriend jeans and ankle length crops. Skinnies are much easier to wear with ankle boots in the winter, but now spring is here I love showing a bit of ankle!

Today I am wearing J.Crew boyfriend jeans – they are super soft and comfortable for re-entry after spring break!

Silver brogues

I love shoes. Shoes will love you unconditionally. Fat or thin, your shoes will always fit (EXCEPT, if like me, for when more than 6mths pregnant your feet will only fit in flip flops).

My new shoe obsession has been acquired over recent months – I rejected them at first but have found myself coming back to them time and again. I’ve always had a bit of rockabilly in me, so it makes sense that I have worn beetle creepers on and off all my shoe buying life. These new obsessions are a slightly more refined flatform.

First up let’s take a look at the Stella McCartney wooden flatforms – just the $995

Pretty cool huh? Alternatively there is the Prada flatform brogue to lust over, cheaper at $950 😉

Dressing for Spring

Yesterday we had a ‘teacher work day’, meaning that there was no school for the children. Instead we had the most wonderful day shopping and at the movies. The weather was incredible and the 3 of us had so much fun. They even enjoyed IKEA and we were in and out in record time having located storage boxes for my winter jumpers and new beach chairs for spring break. The highlight of the morning though was visiting their favorite H&M store!

Poppy was thrilled to find Sue’s top. It looks perfect with her new Zara shorts that she is wearing!

IMG_2061After H&M we headed to the movies to watch Cinderella – highly recommended – we loved it and I even shed a couple of tears!

IMG_2063For the casual day out and about I wore little makeup – a real treat in the spring sun – plenty of spf though of course!

Today it’s back to work with a bump – none of us were rallying to get out of bed this morning. After blogging about it the other day I decided to wear my Mango top for the first time – I love it – I am wearing a US 8.

Attaining the boho 70s look with Mango and Zara

Mango and Zara are two of my favorite high street stores. I say high street when in fact I do all my shopping with them online. Unfortunately we have no Mango in Atlanta and our Zara store is pretty small. I thought both of their AW14 collections were pretty lack luster – not much excited me. SS15 is a different story – I love so much of it!

Mango’s tops have always been great for me – I find their sizing is slightly more generous and consistent than Zara’s. They have always done great boho tops and I have a couple that I bought in Spain last year that I have just dug out – its been in the high 70s here so I can certainly start transitioning my closet for spring!

I love this blue printed top – perfect with flares or denim shorts.

printed topThis chiffon blouse is beautiful – I mentioned the other day that I love a good tunic – I feel much more comfortable without buttons peeking open.

chiffon blouseI have this black top but have yet to wear it. It is just beautiful and great quality. It comes with cami underneath to preserve your modesty.

crochet black topThese crochet tops are not available in my size yet on the US site but they are on my wish list. I just love them – so feminine.

crochet top white crochet topI’ve just ordered these to try the blue and the red. They remind me of Madewell tops that are twice the price. They are so pretty and feminine and I hope to wear them with jeans and my Ancient Greek sandals.

ruffle top red ruffle topThis dress also caught my eye – I don’t have a denim dress and I love the shape of this one. The pockets are a fabulous detail.

denim dressFor those of us that love fringing you can’t miss out on this top. Terrible photo as it doesn’t show the fringe – but both sleeves have fringing. I love it as the front is plain so doesn’t draw attention to a larger chest.

fringe teeAs for Zara it has been their dresses that have caught my attention. Here’s a curve ball – definitely risking mutton BUT I think worn on vacation, by the beach, with sandals it could be an instant hit. The fact it is a ‘romper‘ means it’s short length is less of an issue.

skirt jumpsuitI adore this dress with a stunning embroidered neckline. Really unique and it reminds me of the Kate Moss TopShop dresses that sold out in a heartbeat last year.

zara dressThis red dress is a great alternative to all the creams around – it is really lovely in real life too.

red dressFinally this dress is amazing value and I love the dropped waist. I’ll be ordering it soon.

black dressWith every item I look at I have a specific pair of sandals in mind that I want to wear. They are completely polarizing and I have even surprised myself. I think what I love about these gladiators is that they have thick straps – more ‘solid’ looking than most currently in stores with skinny straps. Now I know I am no Gisele but let me introduce you to my lust shoe for summer 2015 – the Stuart Weitzman Backview.

gisele backviewToday I headed back to our new TopShop. It is so exciting to finally have a bricks and mortar store here – I must be getting old though as my only complaint is the ridiculously loud music in there! I had a $10 gift card burning a hole in my pocket so today I put it towards the Hayden boyfriend jeans in ecru. I love them.

For my little shopping jaunt I wore my new jacket and jeans from J.Crew.

A Military Jacket

IMG_0600

Working in the magazine industry means that I am lucky enough to have subscriptions to almost every fashion magazine in the country. Call it competitive intelligence. Unfortunately this means that month after month I am bombarded with the most amazing images and advertising creative.

Gucci always use incredible images but this month I have been fixated with this stunning visual.

gucci-spring-summer-2015-ad-campaign02

I love everything about it – the flares, the snakeskin, the suede, but mostly I adore the military jacket.

Now in addition to my constantly full magazine basket, I also have my fabulous blogging friends who insist on placing temptation in front of me. Recently both Michelle and Eve have blogged about this stunning military jacket from Zara.

Zara

As I was dropping it in and out of my basket last night, I remembered a jacket that I haven’t worn for a while. I bought it from Boden maybe about 3 years ago? I dug it out and low and behold it is perfect. Note to self – be careful what I eBay and send to charity in the future! I was so relieved I still have this jacket, as I did nearly try and sell it a few times when I was rebelling against all things Boden. The quality is amazing and the color and buttons are perfect. Now I can channel the money I would have spent on the Zara jacket into my Gucci loafer fund! Result!
