The 2016 bikini issue

Yup it’s that time of year again when I encourage you all to take pride in your bodies, whatever shape, size or age. Get your bikinis on this summer and embrace your scars, curves, lumps and bumps. Let’s unite to teach our sons and daughters self esteem and body confidence, not self criticism or shame.

JCrew bikiniBikini – J.Crew

I’m living in my bikinis at the moment due to our location. We have once again completely lucked out with out villa. It is nestled on its own in a cove right on the beach. We even have our own little island. The water is crystal clear and perfect for swimming. This is the view from our roof terrace (where I find it’s lovely and breezy for an afternoon nap!)

Datca Turkey

Last night we headed out for a wander around Dat√ßa which was incredibly busy due to the national holiday here for the end of Ramadan. We ended up at a fabulous little restaurant where the owner introduced himself to us as a Communist Bulgarian. We always meet the most fascinating folk ūüôā

The 2015 Swimsuit Issue

Yes it’s that time of year again! While I sit and watch the final round at Augusta and wait for Hillary to make her big announcement I thought I would catch you up with my week in Fort Morgan. It was perfect. The weather was the best we’ve ever had at this time of year, the house was perfect, and everybody managed to relax. The kids surfed while my Husband and I indulged in some great holiday reading.

If you’re looking for a couple of book recommendations here are mine! I actually let my Husband choose for me from his previous reads – dangerous given the number of historical, academic books he reads but he chose well –¬†‘Lionel Asbo’ by Martin Amis and ‘The Dinner’ By Herman Koch.

Both are equally dark in their own way, but gripping, page turners too! ‘Lionel Asbo’ actually had me sniggering out loud at times with it’s insightful cultural references, and at other times the hairs on my neck stood on end, terrified about what might happen on the next page. ‘The Dinner’ left me with more unanswered questions than answered questions, and for me the ending was unsatisfying, but the journey there was intriguing! I’d love to hear your recommendations for my summer reads this year!

IMG_2155So while I read and relaxed my Husband was on boogie board duty. I say ‘duty’ – he actually loves it and there was really no hardship wandering down the steps to the ocean shore. All three of them here are in their Patagonia board shorts!

IMG_2171I’m afraid I have few¬†outfit photos from the week – I took 3 pairs of denim shorts and wore one pair all week – the weather was so amazing I went from pjs to running gear to bikini back to pjs!

I did however manage to get Poppy to take this as we jumped in the car to head down to the Gulf. This jumpsuit is the ideal travel attire!

I will say that though I battle with my expanding waistline and I adapt to new bumps and scars, as I approach my 44th birthday this summer, I have never been happier or more content with my body in a bikini. Embrace it girls – if you do everyone else will! xx

Pool attire!

So it is Memorial Weekend here which not only means the pools open for the summer, but also there are LOTS of sales in which to buy new attire for the pool!  As an example, on Tuesday I got a beach cover up from J.Crew Рalready reduced to $69 and then at the till a further 30% off was applied!!

It’s available online too – size down it fits big. ¬†It is stunning – the neon colors are amazing. ¬†I have a small in the blue version. ¬†Online use PACKME for extra 30% off.

Also available online with in the PACKME 30% extra off are the following – I keep dropping them in my cart!

This gorgeous striped tunic is perfect with denim shorts:

I adore the spearmint color of this beach tunic.

Now for swimsuits РI have to say that full price J.Crew are expensive Рso wait for a deal like they have now and you will end up with the best quality, most comfortable swimwear ever Рin my opinion at least!  Even swimwear not in the sale is 25% off with PACKME.

Here are my favorites.  I LOVE neon for the summer Рand for the first time in years I have bought swimsuits.

The ruched neon suit will hide a multitude of sins:

The bandeau suit comes with removable straps – perfect for the beach when you need to run around after the children yet you also want to catch some rays.

J.Crew is amazing for their choice of mix and match bikini sets Рall shapes, support and sizes of tops, plus bottoms from the teeniest tiniest to the more modest.  I have chosen the sculpted top that has wider ties than a string and a more supportive cup, along with the regular bikini bottom.  I initially tried the shrunken low rider Рwowzers low, low, low indeed Рreturned immediately before I scared the children:)

ASOS also have an extra 20% of this weekend using WEBEGRILLIN – this can be stacked with items that are already reduced by 25%. ¬†There are some fabulous items – too many to count here so take a peek. ¬†One item I will recommend is my new crochet dress – it is simply stunning and I am saving it for my trip to NYC next week! ¬†Size up if you are apple like me – it fits slim but it’s super cute! ¬†I’m going to wear it with my Dickers or sandals.

I have plenty of outfit shots to share from this week and I’ll get them in a post soon! ¬†Right now I’m off back to IKEA for more kids furniture – a Memorial Weekend filled with flat pack assembly for me!

Love your body.

So I know I am bound to get mixed comments regarding this – but you all know I’m a bit daft sometimes…Plus I have an important message.

I’m doing this to demonstrate that whatever your shape or size we are all fabulous. ¬†Last year my friend was nervous about wearing a bikini for the first time in years. ¬†I was amazed. ¬†I told her to stop worrying, have a glass of cava and get the bikini on. ¬†At the pool I certainly don’t analyze women from head to toe, so I’m pretty certain they are not eyeing me up and down – and if they are who cares? ¬†I have never worried about wearing a bikini even after kids, and I certainly do not have a perfect body. ¬†In France I can’t wait to go topless (or Norwich even, as my Husband has just reminded me!!). ¬†I have some gorgeous flesh on my tummy, with the stretch marks from both pregnancies – they make me smile every time I see them. ¬†I can push the flesh around on my tummy and contort all sorts of images. ¬†My legs are rock hard from running and cycling, which is why I love wearing short skirts and patterned trousers – you have to emphasize your assets. ¬†I am the perfect apple shape.

So ladies – I see the sun is shining in the UK, and it’s Memorial weekend here in the US, so get your bikinis on and flaunt everything you have!

Beach vacation.

This place is amazing. ¬†It’s one of those vacations where everything falls in to place, almost.

The kids have been jumping the surf at 8am each morning, and MM and I have managed to get a couple of beach runs in to burn off the calories from the excesses of each evening. ¬†Yes, we’ve even managed to light the charcoal grill:) ¬†Nothing better than burgers with Prosecco!

My afternoon margaritas have been cunningly disguised in my coffee cup.

The house, fortunately, is perfect – basic, but right on the beach. ¬†It’s amazing how easy the day becomes when you don’t have to pack bags and food for a day at the beach. ¬†Not to mention we can all chill out away from the sun when we feel like it. ¬†The only thing we’re missing are the dogs – they don’t deal well with the heat – I hope they are behaving for the house sitter!

I’ve been relishing living in bikinis, shorts and t-shirts. ¬†I packed light, and living with a capsule wardrobe is fabulously freeing. ¬†No decisions to make except choosing which shorts are clean.

Of course we can never go away without drama. ¬†Poor Poppy managed to get half the deck in her foot on Sunday evening. ¬†I tried removing the splinter but she was obviously in pain. ¬†Monday morning we headed to Urgent Care. ¬†The poor wee thing had to have a huge needle in her foot for anesthetic then the Dr. had to use a scalpel to remove it – it was embedded in her foot so deeply! ¬†I held on to her for dear life – I never want to hear screams of pain like that again. ¬†I was in tears and shaking – and I wasn’t even going through the pain!! ¬†She was an absolute star and once it was all over all she was concerned about was the color of her bandage. ¬†I think she is feeling quite the hero now.
