Today it is time for another lazy day at home before the Husband and I head out tonight for some festive fun!

A week of Christmas concerts

Even though we have lived just up the road from the Governor’s Mansion for 15 years, we have never yet received an invite for dinner and drinks. This week we came close and we were invited for a Christmas tour accompanied by music – and bonus – Poppy’s school chorus had been selected to sing, in addition to that Poppy’s name was one of 50 drawn out of the hat to represent the chorus! Talk about another proud mom moment. I dragged myself off my sick bed and threw on my festive colors. I was even greeted by the First Lady of Georgia a the door, though I chose not to challenge her about the lack of previous invites 😉 It was a fabulous morning and I may have shed my first tear of the season.

OH took the photo – hence the sun in the eyes, the large amount of blue sky and lack of sparkly boots, but thank you nonetheless 🙂

Yesterday I had Hugh’s 1st Grade concert to attend. Unfortunately there are no school nativities here due to separation of Church and State etc. so we were treated to a Holiday celebration of ‘patterns’. Quite good fun actually – they sung about patterns in music, numbers, nature etc. There was an absence of Holiday colors on my part but the kids made up for it I assure you!

Just this morning I was back at the school watching the chorus and orchestra perform. Such good fun – they really love it too and they were so animated. I can now say that Christmas has arrived. I was there early as you can see it was still pitch black when I took my photo! This is the closest you will get me to wearing a Christmas sweater 🙂

Just as I am wiping my brow with relief that all the Christmas shopping is done, I am beginning to receive sale emails! The Mango sale started today so I’ll be enjoying a glass of white and perusing that later 🙂 Now I need to reapply my lipstick as my lovely Husband is taking me out for lunch before the kids break up for the Holidays tomorrow. My Father in Law arrives from the UK today too so the festivities are certainly underway here.

Christmas has arrived

Yes our household is now the proud owner of a tree. Our school doesn’t have a tree sale so we support another local elementary PTA each year and get our 9 footer from them. I refused to let the kids decorate last night as the tree was wet and I didn’t want them electrocuted while we were out. That didn’t go down well with them at all, so this morning I was verbally assaulted from 7am onwards with “mommy get up! We want to do the tree”…I tried to hide under the duvet after a late night out but it didn’t work. My kids are relentless.

Another sign that Christmas has arrived is that our elf, Maximus, has also returned. Lying in bed the other night, about to fall asleep, my Husband sat up with a start – ‘f*ck’ he said.

What, what, what?! Have we left the gas on? Have we forgotten to pay a bill? Have we left the children somewhere?

No – worse than that – he explained – “I haven’t moved the f*cking elf”

On Thursday I had my monthly trip to the salon. I wanted less length on top and went for a more textured look, along with a lighter color to highlight my faux hawk. I am pretty darn happy with how it turned out. I got to wear my new Boden Off Duty sweater. I absolutely love this year’s version – the knit is looser and it drapes nicely, the sleeves are also longer. It’s the perfect winter jumper.

Last night we went out for dinner – maybe our last night out together before Christmas what with parties, cheer competitions and the arrival of relatives. We had a fabulous evening as always. Stella joined me for the photo session but quickly lost interest.

I was very excited before we left as the tree had arrived!

Today my elves have been dressing the tree while I hold the sofa down exploring our new Hulu service – I am obsessed with all the British shows we can now watch!

Thanksgiving

I had a lovely week with family and friends and I have overindulged. Our friends joined us for dinner on Thursday and I have to say I was pretty chuffed with how the turkey came out after brining overnight. Needless to say on Friday morning I felt like I had been soaked in a bath of salt and wine too, hence I didn’t get too involved or carried away with Black Friday 🙂 In fact I had several items in and out of my Zara cart all day and didn’t buy any of them. I did succumb and buy the Off Duty jumper in charcoal and navy from Boden. I have a couple from previous years and love them so with 30% off I bit the bullet. I can never have too many jumpers!

Back on Tuesday we went to the movies to watch Hero 6 which was really good fun – popcorn and an empty theater – fabulous. I wore my fur as it was pretty chilly here in Atlanta.

Poppy and Hugh were very excited to get out of the house! Poppy is all in H&M except her fabulous red boots which are Boden – she hasn’t taken them off since they arrived!

On Wednesday, once we had bought the 15lb turkey, we headed out for Mexican so we could prepare stuffing and cranberry sauce without feeling hungry!

Funky boots

We all know I have an unhealthy obsession with boots – particularly ankle boots. This season I am smitten with all boots sparkly and patterned. It all began with these YSL boots in silver…

Or maybe the gold?

Or maybe the knee highs?

Or something totally go go girl:

Then I discovered these Valentino boots – how beautiful are these and so unique!

It doesn’t help that I have been following Tiffany Wendel for over a year now and her Giuseppe Zanotti sparkly boots are freakin’ fabulous!

So the search began for something more budget friendly and I was surprised by the choice available. Firstly these Boden Soho boots are gorgeous – I love the height of the heel!

A lot of sizes have recently come back in stock – plus there is 25% off with code 7Y2J

Zara also have a version that has a lovely profile.

If you don’t want to go all over glitter then how about these from Kate Spade? The bow detail is adorable.

Want something shiny but not glittery – then how about the Boden chic ankle boot in pewter – a fabulous neutral that can be worn all year.

Moving on to patterned boots – and for me you can’t beat leopard print. It’s a great neutral and I love it paired with all black. These Newbury boots are on my Xmas list – I’ve sent my Husband the link and size 🙂

The Sam Edelman Petty is a great boot – so comfortable and classic.

Ok so not patterned or glitter but I couldn’t help including this version of the Petty in Bone – just lush!

Eve and I often send each other links and give each other advice on what to buy or not to buy (mainly the former!). We’re true enablers. We have very similar wardrobes – maybe because we have similar body types or just similar tastes. We have joked in the past how much more we could cram in our closets if we were close enough to share clothes. Yesterday we were each wearing our Mango culottes on different sides of the Atlantic.

As Eve mentions they are incredibly comfortable and fit on the larger side for Mango – though their sizing is all over the place! These are a UK 12/US 8 and fit great especially on my waist where I sometimes struggle with waistbands being too tight!

I seem to have a thing for grey at the moment and I can’t get my hands on enough grey sweaters! My new love is the Everlane sleeveless chunky knit. Being sleeveless makes it easy to wear under jackets and it’s also dressier to wear with leather pants or skirts for a night out. The knit is so soft – I am obsessed. I dug out my old favorite Diesel Fayzas – the best jeans ever.

I’m hoping to go for a cheeky curry for lunch with my Husband today – it better be a hot one as our Polar Plunge arrives tomorrow 🙂 Just in time for my trip to Charlotte for a wedding bbbbrrrrr!

Another year

16 years ago today I married the man of my dreams. Actually I never dreamt I would snag such a good one who would tolerate me so well for all this time 🙂

We began our celebrations on Wednesday night by going retro with an Erasure gig. Andy Bell didn’t fail to disappoint with his voice or his hot pants! I skipped the pleather shorts and wore my River Island jumpsuit which I never got a full length shot of, sorry, but it’s now on sale at ASOS!

I was a little worse for wear on Wednesday after a late, late night on Tuesday. An old friend from the UK was in town so I had to take him out for a few drinks no? I got home at 3am after eating just 5 oysters all night – yikes! I cannot do it anymore! I wore my fab Zara jumpsuit for the occasion. Just be warned NEVER leave it to the last minute to have a pee when wearing a jumpsuit! As the night gets later they can get more and more challenging to remove! The shoes were bought in the UK in the Coast sale and the bag is current H&M. I am in LOVE with the fringe!

Today my Husband surprised me with lunch out and tonight we’re off for dinner. Thank goodness I killed myself at Hot Yoga again this morning – I’m telling you it is the best exercise in the world and so invigorating!

Here’s my lunch attire – still debating over what to wear tonight! This leather skirt is fabulous – so soft and easy to wear. This is a Eur L/US M so it is nice and slouchy and not too tight or short.

NYFW trip part 1

Phew – back in Atlanta. I love going away but I love coming home even more! It was actually a fabulously indulgent weekend on my own, which involved shopping, eating and a party for good measure! I have to say, of all my visits to NYC, this was by far the hottest and most humid it has ever been – it was pretty uncomfortable – so I had to keep popping in lovely places for the air conditioning 🙂

Before I left I had my haircut – thanks to Chadd and Gina yet again for making me feel absolutely amazing – no clothes can do what a great haircut can.

To travel in I wore my James Perse wrap dress and Golden Goose glitter sneakers – I was in such a rush for the cab I didn’t get a full length shot! Atlanta Hartsfield airport certainly got an eyeful of my cleavage though!

Of course I had the obligatory cocktail before boarding.

I was starving when I arrived so after dropping my bags at the InterContinental, Times Square I jumped on the Subway straight down to SoHo. My first meal had to be a Jack’s Wife Freda. I’d been fantasizing about it ever since I was there back at the end of May with Cali. It’s one of those great bar/restaurants where I could eat every meal from breakfast to dinner – and I almost did!

I then ended up in AllSaints around the corner – how convenient! I purchased the amazing Agi dress (UK 12) and the incredible Haff sweater (Medium) – I just love a cold shoulder and it makes this chunky knit super sexy! You must visit the SoHo location when you are next there – the staff are brilliant and could not have been more helpful. Trying on knits in 90 degree heat was not my idea of fun and they were super accommodating.

To celebrate my purchases I popped into Balthazar for a margarita.

You may notice I did also manage to find time to nip into Uniqlo for my Husband. Last year I bought their great Men’s cashmere crewnecks for myself and this year he requested the cardigans – the quality is outstanding for $99!

That turned out to be enough excitement for Friday – and I was in bed by 8pm!! How things change!

I’ll be back with all the exciting events of Saturday soon! Now off to take my sweet fur babies out for a walk – I missed them like crazy!

The birthday celebrations are finally over…

After continuing all week I am well and truly closing down the party. I’ve had a brilliant week in the company of family and friends and I’m now ready to get on with this damn health kick I keep talking about – all talk and no action for sure.

On Tuesday evening I headed out with some great girls from work – another Leo and a new girl so it was a combination of birthday and welcome drinks. I’ve always loved off the shoulder tops – for someone like me with a weak jawline and one too many chins I think they are really flattering and draw the eye to the clavicle.

Thursday night I was out with Cali who I went to NYC with at the beginning of summer. I always have so much fun with her – friends really have made this year’s birthday perfect. The craziness is over…

I’ve been neglecting the blog – apologies. I did warn you that May was full of events that need planning and execution! Today is Poppy’s 8th birthday. I cannot believe that 8 years ago I was lying in L&D having just had my first child at around 6.30pm…

The party was on Friday early evening and I have to say it was one of our best. I had the great fortune of catching up with Moms I hadn’t seen for weeks, some months! It was planned from 5-7pm and you can tell it was a great night as our last guests didn’t leave till 10ish – we didn’t want it to end. We were trying to make it a surprise for Poppy but of course 8 year olds have loose lips:) She loved the red carpet, VIP sign and VIP badges!

Poppy’s dress is H&M as is most of her closet these days! I find they are great for a girl who no longer wants to wear Boden appliqué, but they are still totally appropriate for a young girl.

Mikey from VibeSquad was our amazing DJ for the evening, ironically he’s a Londoner!

I tried to go with the disco theme in my ASOS Bowie t-shirt, Mango harems and silver Ancient Greeks. Thanks to the Husband for the super unflattering photo but it makes me smile – we had amazing fun catching up:)

Today after present opening we headed to the American Girl Store to pick up Isabelle – new friend to Saige from last year. I am not buying anymore American Girl Dolls…that store is my idea of hell on earth.

Lunch was by choice of the birthday girl at Verde and I decided to wear glitter, at least on my feet, for the occasion.
