Bad ass dog.

On Wednesday morning, after returning from dropping the kids at school, I was confronted with a guy in our yard trying to break into the house.  I immediately went into fright or flight mode and just started yelling “F*ck off! F*ck off!  What the f*ck do you think you’re doing??!!!”.  I was very eloquent.  I’m not sure if he was more scared of me or Tennyson, my fabulous, loyal, protective, boxer who immediately went into attack mode.  I was slightly impressed by the dude’s agility and speed at getting back over our fence.  I suddenly realized he may be armed so I headed back inside to call 911 while Tennyson told him in no uncertain terms that he would not be welcomed back.

Tennyson now has his new sign in the front yard which really should say “Beware of the big, bad ass, dog”.

It took me the day to recover from the adrenalin – I was shaken to say the least – but I felt I dealt with it appropriately and I’m moving on now.  I think they could hear me yelling in Florida!

Tuesday I headed to H&M to exchange some clothes for Poppy.  I took the opportunity to take a look at this gorgeous fringed top I had seen online.  I needed to understand why it is priced at $349!!  It is a lovely blue, but crikey I wouldn’t pay $20 for it.  The tassles feel really cheap and were already tangling and getting knotted on every top in the store.  Not to mention the top must have weighed 100lbs.  You’d need to be a line backer to wear it for more than 10 minutes.

Here’s my outfit for the day – I felt really comfortable, it’s great to wear skirts again – crap photo – I blinked:)

Yes…a sneaker post…

Sneakers, trainers, tennis shoes – whatever you call them they are everywhere right now, and nothing could make me happier.  In my closet I have Adidas gazelles, Converse sneakers and classic Chuck Taylors, Nike hi-tops (worn way back here) and of course my ridiculous Golden Goose.

Many recent sneaker posts have focused on the classic New Balance sneaker.  They’ve had somewhat of a renaissance recently.  I remember blogging about my New Balance running shoes back here and thinking what a ‘nerdy’ brand they were.  But now that nerdiness seems to be cool.  I love the fact that they have become so mainstream – I still have a lot of love for the brand and J.Crew have some amazing colors available for the Spring.

Back in 1995 I dragged my family around the streets of London looking for Adidas Gazelles in green.  You couldn’t get them for love or money after Ms. Moss made them such a style statement.  I eventually tracked a pair down in Harrods of all places!

Since that first purchase I have always been an Adidas girl.  The fact that Run DMC made the brand so freakin’ cool did not escape me either.

I now have a pair of men’s navy Gazelles.  Buyer beware – buying men’s sneakers presents all sorts of sizing issues.  Not only is UK sizing different from US sizing but the men’s and women’s sizing is different too!  Please can someone standardize shoe sizes globally – thanks.  I am a US women’s 8.5 and I buy US men’s 7.5 in Adidas.

I also have a pair of Adidas Samoas – I love how ‘neat’ this shoe is and the leather is beautiful.

These silver women’s Gazelles are amazing and on sale.  Just imagine them with tanned ankles and boyfriend jeans – lush!

The Samoas are also available in silver – I love the metallics – a far cheaper option than the metallic/sparkly Golden Goose.

For something a little more neutral I adore the grey men’s Samoas.

Yesterday I just had to get out of the house.  With the crazy weather here in Altanta (we spent Tuesday night pushing cars along our road) we’ve all been housebound.  This has now resulted in us all getting sick, irritable and tired.  Great.  So yesterday I bundled up and headed to the mall for 30 minutes to a) try and remember what day it was and b) blow some germs away.  I ended up popping into the Adidas store and look what I ‘treated’ myself to.

These Stan Smiths can’t be found anywhere online – at least where I have looked – they do have some of the red trim available on the Adidas site.  I really didn’t think they would be me – but when I tried them on I was smitten.  Super comfy and I love the simplicity of them.

Of course everyone else in the store was buying them so they will be on all the cool kids this Spring – me, Phoebe and Marc included of course:)

These Samoas were a complete curve ball.  I immediately cringed when I saw them – flowers on sneakers – totally wrong.  But again I tried them on and wow – I love them!  So different, and yes girly, and they will look great with denim shorts or my ASOS t-shirt dresses.  Again I’m sorry I can’t find them online but here they are in the flesh

As a complete aside from ‘proper’ sneakers, while I was re-ordering my Limited Edition shoes (flowers again – what is happening to me?!) I spotted these fabulous ‘slip on sneakers’ – similar to the Next versions that were available last summer.  These Marks & Spencer versions are a great price too.  I can vouch for them as they happened to fall in my cart – no idea how that happens – very strange – must be a bug on the M&S site.

I’m afraid I don’t have much to report on the outfits of recent days – it really has been crap stuck at home, but not nearly as crap as it was for those stuck on the Interstates for 24 hours.  I’m sure we’ll continue to hear more about the good Samaritans who have helped those in need over the past few days.  The thaw is here and hopefully we can get back to normal again – though our politicians will feel a little beaten up for a few weeks to come no doubt…

Comfy sneakers.

Yes I know sneakers are everywhere right now and every blogger, magazine and newspaper, it seems, has featured them – so it’s my turn with a pick of some of my favorites.  I have been a sneaker/trainer advocate for some time and always used to make a point of buying them cheap from the US, when we first started traveling here.  Friends laughed at me when I described my various pairs of trainers that were either for ‘fashion’ or ‘fitness’ – well you don’t want to wear smelly trainers that you worked out in down at the pub!

My favorites were, and probably always will be, the Nike Air Max ’95s.  I had a pair of grey with green and a pair of blue with orange, which I adored and wore both till they fell apart – unusual for me!

I am also a big lover of hi tops and again Nike tends to be my go to brand.  I love these Dunk wedge sneakers that they have designed.  As you see, like my trousers, I like my sneakers loud!

Going old school – I love these Vans – perfect with skinnies or boyfriend jeans with a simple sweatshirt for a great tomboy look.

These new Adidas ones have caught my eye too.  I love Adidas and have a pair of navy Gazelles.  I had a pair of green ones that I hunted high and low for back in the early 90’s when Ms. Moss made them a must have item.  These hi-tops are a grey marl jersey fabric – they look super comfy and I can’t resist grey marl ever – even on sneakers.

Finally, of course, we can spend a little more should we so wish.  Waiting in my closet to be worn are a pair of Marant Bobby sneakers.  As soon as the rain disappears they will be on my feet – I adore them and they are the perfect color for summer with shorts.

After Kat reminded me about the Ash Virgins, I took a peek at their new Spring sneakers and I am currently yearning for a pair of Ash Virgin star cutouts in silver – they’d be awesome with boyfriend jeans and my Zara red leather jacket:)

Coincidentally my past few outfits have revolved around sneakers.  On Saturday night we went out to our lovely neighbors for little get together.  It was a fabulous night, late and indulgent and the kids had a blast too.  I wore my new Matalan maxi skirt, old Gap striped t-shirt, Boden Union Jack scarf (old), Gap denim jacket (old) and white Converse.

Today I went for comfort, and rain is expected so the Bobby sneakers are still in their box!  I bought these Nike sneakers over a year ago and love the girly pink trim on them:)

So have you bought into the sneaker trend?  Which are your must haves?

We did it…!

…We got through the week and survived! The chaotic week ended on a high note with Mother’s Day and Poppy’s 6th birthday party.

Mother’s Day was celebrated with two beautiful notes from my children.  I was ecstatic with Hugh’s for the most part, especially only weighing 10lbs and eating salads…little does he know…but I’m a bit confused about the ‘visitor’?  MM thinks it’s the UPS delivery man:)

Poppy’s was lovely and made me well up especially as I could see how much time and effort she had taken in writing it.

“My mommy is the best mommy anyone can have.  I love you mommy.  I love going outside with you.  I love going to the beach with you.  I love spending time with you.”

What more can a mother ask for?

So then it was on to the birthday celebrations at a huge indoor gymnastics center with inflatable castles, slides, zip lines, swings and trampolines.  It was brilliant and everyone was thoroughly worn out afterward.  Thank goodness we went for the indoor option as it rained hard all day.  Previously we’ve hosted all the parties at our house with a bouncy castle in the garden, which just wouldn’t have been used today!

So it was back to sweaters again.  Not sure why I’m surprised as I remember taking Poppy to the Zoo for her 3rd birthday and it was freezing so I should be acutely aware that Atlanta’s weather is unpredictable till the end of May.  I wore my Hudson Collin jeans, Boden essential long sleeve scoop neck t-shirt from SS 2011, Boden Must have jumper from this season in quail egg and my favorite Adidas Gazelles.  I had a pair of green ones back in the 90’s and thought I was the bee’s knees wearing them around Notting Hill.

All grown up.

I think my daughter gained 6 years this morning, and all she did was put on a a pair of Old Navy skinny jeans.  It was only the other day that I was bemoaning the sticker earrings and now I have bought her some on-trend jeans that make her legs look longer than telegraph poles.  She does, I have to say, look fabulous in them, but she’s not even six yet and she seems to be gaining maturity weekly right now – where did my babies go?  Of course my son also had his new boy’s skinny jeans on too, but we don’t seem to be quite so precious about him growing up – in fact I’m willing him on!  He’s going to break some hearts one day – he’s such a dude:)  All Old Navy denim is currently on sale so it’s definitely worth a peak for the little ones.

Feeling well and truly over my cold I headed out for a run this morning in my new Adidas Techfit capris.  They were so comfortable and I didn’t feel like I was having to hitch them up all the time like some running pants – plus the print is super cool.  With all my knee problems that I have experienced there is definitely some psychological benefit in having them covered and supported.  My friend has recommended the CEP compression sleeves – she swears by them for distances so I have just purchased a pink pair on Zappos.com to try them out.  If I feel some benefit I’ll no doubt get the green too – I’m sure they will be fine to wear with shorts in the summer.  You certainly won’t miss me in these and my New Balance rainbow sneakers!

My motivational tune this morning was provided by Steve Earle – nothing like a resounding rendition of “Copperhead Road” to get the blood flowing – especially as it always takes me back to seeing him live years ago.  It also reminds me of our many weekends in Nashville pre-kids.  There was a cover band (who are probably still there) in one of the bars that always played “Copperhead Road” when requested, awesome with a cold can of PBR!

Today I am giving a nod to Kate who was out and about the other day looking stunning in her walnut-coloured Orla Kiely ‘Birdie’ coat dress, worn with brown tights and brown Aquatalia ankle boots.  The Orla Kiely dress sold out in minutes after she was photographed in it not surprisingly.  I am wearing my Boden Retro tunic, M&S brown tights and Boden brown piped shoe boots, finished off with my Boden brown leather blazer again.  Not quite Duchess material, but let’s see if I can grow out my hair and emulate her luscious locks lol!

Football and pulled pork.

This weekend has been crazy – or ‘craaayyy-zee’ as we seem to say in the South.  My children’s schedules seem to be getting out of control.  What with school, sports, birthday parties and play dates I am beginning to see their social calendars dictate my weekend.  This morning we were out of the house at 9.30am to be at Hippo Hop for a party at 10am!  Still it was lots of fun and I caught up with some daycare moms that I hadn’t seen for a while.  Then after a swift lunch my daughter headed off for a play date while I ran 8miles with a friend in the glorious sunshine.  We even saw 3 deer run across in front of us – it was amazing and well worth the aches I’m nursing now.

Needless to say I am thoroughly relieved not to be heading to a Superbowl party for beer and chilli.  While I recover from my run MM is making homemade salsa with his new pestle and mortar (yes I am spoiled) to eat with some delicious pulled pork.  I’m not even sure I will make it to half time but at least I will sleep well.

Go Giants!

My ‘throw on’ outfit today as I hurriedly got ready was my favorite AllSaints Portland jumper, Gap boyfriend jeans, and Tory Burch musk Eddies, accessorized with my fabulous orange Casio G-Shock watch – comfy casual – just how I like my Sundays.  Sorry no photo available of my even more comfortable current attire of Adidas bright pink sweats, tee and Ugg slippers🙂
