Gwen’s love for Zara.

My fellow blogger, Hollie, and I are both great admirers of Gwen Stefani’s eclectic rock and roll style – she always looks perfectly put together.  Her make up and hair are always immaculate, even for a trip to the park with her sons.  It was while Hollie and I were chatting about Gwen the other day that I realized Gwen is a fan of Zara!  I have spotted her in three Zara items just this weekend – who’d have thought it?  Gwen obviously embraces pairing high and lower end items – good for her!

Two of the items also happen to be in my closet – no surprise there.  The first is the sarong skirt – I love how she has styled this over leggings…There’s a David Bowie t-shirt on Asos that I have been umming and ahhing about for a while now – it could be the perfect tee to replicate this look.

Next up is my jacket last worn here.  Now I’m not necessarily a fan of her styling here but each to their own…though if I was Italian I’d wear that t-shirt in a heartbeat.

Finally I spotted this photo of her wearing these Zara pants heading to Chuck E. Cheeses – please Gwen how could you bear to step foot in there?  I’d rather stick pins in my eyes.

These photos of Gwen always make me want to to wear red lipstick more often and I’m pretty sure images of her have influenced my choice of attire today.

Finally – I think my children are trying to tell me something – buying these cards obviously amused the Husband no end…I hope you all had a fabulous Mother’s Day!

Any changes of heart yet?

It’s been a while since I last wore them and you’ve had the chance to consider…any changes of heart?  Anyone now tempted?  Oh well I’ll keep trying – I love them:)

We have the best weather of the year so far here in Atlanta – it’s ‘cracking the flags’ as my Nan used to say.

A new jacket.

Sticking with my formula for feeling great, i.e. jeans + jacket, I have been trawling online store fronts, perusing jackets at every opportunity.  I’ve convinced myself that now I know what works for me, at least for daily ease and work attire, surely I can justify more items that adhere to the formula?

This jacket looked NOTHING on the Zara site (a little better now with the new model and styling) – but based on plain black jacket I have that is a similar style I decided to try it.  I am so glad I did – I love it!  It is really lightweight and has lovely wide, bracelet length cuffs.  I think the cropped style works great with these Asos Saxby jeans.  The jeans were an absolute bargain and my favorite boyfriend jeans to date.  They have low slung pockets at the back and are loose fitting throughout the leg.  Not too distressed either – just enough.  If you use 30ASOSRMN you can get $30 off $150 with free shipping till April 28th.

Oooh and my current favorite nail polish was applied last night – China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy that I first saw on Eve on AllWornOutBlog.com.  It is a gorgeous neon peachy pink that glows next to a tan – LOVE it!

 Jeans – Asos Saxby // Shoes – Vince Nina // Jacket – Zara // T-shirt – Gap sunwashed t-shirt

I wanted to leave you with this – remember the Dove sketch commercial I shared last Friday?  Well Avril sent me the parody that is now circulating – I found it so funny…

Bracing myself…

…for the comments!  The dungarees have entertained several already today.  As I walked into the office MM thought it was hilarious when he showed me where the plumbing was under the sink – in fact he’s just walked out telling me the ‘chickens need feeding’…oh my sides are splitting – what a funny guy.

After Fiona ‘outed’ me a week or so ago I knew I couldn’t wait much longer before giving them their first public appearance.  To clarify – I LOVE them.  I know they’ve been featured on several blogs, and they have been the subject of many fashion articles recently, but I will say I was wearing them way back in 1998 – that’s how ahead of the trend I am:)  I wore a short pair all through my honeymoon in Cyprus – dead sexy!  Aside from being totally on trend right now, I find them super comfortable – jeans with no waistband – perfect!

Will you or won’t you dungaree this summer?

…And for those doubters out there I discovered they are great for keeping hands warm…

And just for Fiona and MM, here I am ready for tractor racing – remind me not to stand like this at the bar – or anywhere in public for that matter:

Withdrawal.

I’ve gone cold turkey.  No not with the wine silly!  I haven’t bought anything, or clicked an order button for a whole week.  I’m not sure when this last happened.  I have, however, filled several carts with things I ‘need’.  It’s actually quite fun to keep checking them and looking at them knowing at anytime I could hit the order button if I want to – I’m teasing myself;)

Yesterday we had an afternoon of severe storms so I had some time to surf online, as you can be sure we were going no where near the surf outside.  The storms were pretty darn scary, with Tornado watches – and being in a wooden shack on stilts did not feel the safest place to be.  At one point we tried to drive away from the storms but quickly realized the whole of the Alabama coast was impacted.  I felt too much like a ‘storm chaser’ guy on The Weather Channel, so we turned around and hunkered down.  I calmed my nerves with a strong margarita and distracted myself with some online window shopping – no one else in the family seemed to be that worried as plastic furniture went hurtling past the windows.

So what did I drop in my carts?  Well first of all hooray for Zara – lots of new items have appeared, along with a new model who is a bit more engaging than the previous ones this season.

This green jacket is just stunning – it looks fabulous in this fabric.

Green Jacket

One item I know I NEED is a lovely longish lace dress – why?  Well I don’t have anything like this already.  I can see it worn with converse, thong sandals, flip flops or even my Dicker boots – very versatile for any occasion.  I just wish it wasn’t $159.

Lace dress

Of course there is another pair of patterned trousers that I love – this bird print pair are beautiful and will be perfect paired with a simple t-shirt.

Another pair of shoes perfect for my feet, yet still enough like sandals to be summery are these peep toe booties.  They’d look fabulous with dressy shorts like these, or skinnies of course.

One item that will definitely be winging it’s way to me is this white jacket – once I can summon the strength to click order:)  Also I am not sure whether an XL here is really the usual TRF L – I ALWAYS need a large in TRF jackets.  I seem to be obsessed with biker style jackets this season.

One of my favorite stores – AllSaints – is having a sale right now on selected items.  I adored this Kayo Sweater dress as soon as I saw it at the start of the season.  The cobalt is now in the sale and I’m thinking this gorgeous color will be a welcome change from my AllSaints’ greys and blacks currently in my closet.

Finally Asos.com has become another ‘go-to’ site for me.  I find it a little overwhelming navigating all their items – the same reason that I don’t really like department stores – but it’s so exciting to see all the UK brands I can get my hands on in one place, with free shipping and free returns.  Whistles, Oasis, River Island and some lesser known brands are all available.  Not to mention Asos’ own brand.  For less than $60 these loose Saxby boyfriend jeans are a steal – a great substitute for the Current/Elliott Dad jeans.

I also have a weak spot for this dress – I just wish it was short sleeved for the summer here.

Not sure how much longer I am going to go before caving.  I wonder if I can make it another week?

A new haircut and an ASOS code.

I hope you are all having as good a weekend as I am having!?  It started with a great night out with a girlfriend I haven’t seen in ages.  We talked and talked and drank and drank and needless to say I was very happy the sun shone on Saturday so I could spend it horizontal in the garden:)  I’m getting too old to be coming home at 2am!

Friday night outfit:

Jeans – H&M boyfriend jeans // shoes – Nine West Austin leopard print // Jacket – Zara (old) // tank – H&M (old) // belt – Gucci

As you can see I had a haircut on Thursday too – I LOVE it.  It’s REALLY short at the back and sides – it’s basically an undercut.  It helps me channel my wild side.  So much so in fact that I also opened up my second ear piercing again…

And here’s how I spent most of Friday and Saturday in the sun – bliss!  Weird considering there was snow up the coast in NYC!

Saturday’s recovery outfit:

Shoes – converse // Trousers – Top Shop (old) // t-shirt – Forever 21

Somehow I’ve managed to get myself on the mailing list for Net-a-Porter.com‘s magazine – The Edit.  I wish they would stop trying to give the game away to MM – he doesn’t need to know I make occasional purchases on NAP!  I spotted this AMAZING suit from Roberto Cavalli – now I just need to find a spare $20k. Anyone??

As I don’t always blog at the weekend you keep up to date and find my photos by following on Instagram@PoppysStyle – it’s my new social media obsession!

Finally, if you are in the US, it appears St. Patrick’s Day can be good for something in addition to drinking Guinness and wearing green.  ASOS have a code good for 48 hrs – use GETLUCKY for 20% off – enjoy!

Feeling brighter.

I’m definitely on the mend and putting it all down to the beetroot and ginger:)  The sun is also shining here.  That can’t be said for the North East – some of who were shoveling their cars out from snow this morning.  I’m hoping for a white Xmas – MM thinks I’m mad – he’d live in 80 degree heat all year if he could.  Me on the other hand – I love my seasons and the sweaters and boots that come with winter.

You all know how much I love my boots and after the Newburys and Pistols this year I can hardly justify any more.  The Isabel Marant Dickers have been on my radar for a while – but are they now just too passé?  There are so many copies available – far cheaper – and even Boden have now joined the band wagon.  I’ve never known them to add a new item mid season like this before – but yesterday the Boho boot suddenly appeared.  Now I quite like them – but wish the top was a little lower and more sculpted, like the Dicker, and that the tabs weren’t so big.  If anyone buys them let me know what you think of them – I might be tempted to try in the sale if there are still some left!

It’s quite a milestone for the blog today – I’ve bought a tripod!  No more blurry iPhone shots!  The tripod is fabulous but I won’t tell you how long it took me to figure out the timer on the camera – or how many times I nearly broke my neck dashing into position – suave, elegant, sophisticated – that’s me:)  Need to practice that one – I look quite startled too:)

I feel like I’m cheating today as I really am wearing a sort of sweat pant.  They are jersey harem pants that I got from ASOS last year – I love them – and to be honest I normally wear them with sandals in the summer – but their comfy waistband was beckoning me this morning.  I paired them with the Boden Hampton t-shirt from AW 2011 and the radish Must Have jumper from SS 2012 (available this season here).  I love this radish color – it is perfect for all year round.  The jersey scarf was a bargain in the SS sale – it’s first proper outing and I love it – so long and soft.  So I don’t feel like I’m giving up completely in my harem pants, I’ve styled my hair and I’m wearing my Rag & Bone Newbury boots🙂

I’ve had a couple of emails/comments about my nail polish recently and this is Chanel Vamp – the lipstick it my favorite right now – Revlon Wine with Everything – the perfect subtle red.

M&S is calling.

Given my trip back to Blighty is now just over a month away I thought I’d have a quick peak at the Marks & Spencer’s website.  M&S and Boots are the two stores that I miss most over here in the States – they are so quintessentially British.  No matter that M&S takes an occasional bashing, I am still a die hard fan.  I inherited a love for all things M&S from my Mum, and whether I’ve bought knickers and bras, oversize men’s cardigans or my first career suits, I have loved everything from M&S that I have ever owned.  I remember walking into the Marble Arch store and being flabbergasted at the choices available versus our little store in Bury (which isn’t so little these days).  M&S have dressed me for every occasion from my church confirmation to my interview for my first City job to friends’ weddings.  I can’t wait to get back in there!  MM still laughs at my story of a business trip to Paris when I was the junior member of the team and I had to collect lunch for everyone – M&S butties for goodness sakes – in Paris!!

In the 12 years I’ve lived here M&S has had it’s ups and downs and has diversified it’s offering significantly.  The Limited collection is still pretty new to me but here are some items I have my beady eye on, again some are very ‘British’ and I like to wear things that you can’t necessarily buy here in Lenox Square Mall.

I love this crown print jersey tee – very patriotic and a great on trend color:

Anything with animals on always grabs my attention and this very English Bull Dog print tank will look great with a fun pair of shorts.

This bird print shell top is again very on trend and similar to a lot of prints I’ve seen on ASOS online.  I have to get my hands on this:

Finally I adore this bird cage print tee and it’s in the sale at 12 GBP (no idea where my pound sign is on my keyboard)!  I might have to get Mum to pop in this week and see if she can pick it up for me.  My only quibble with it is that I wish the print ran along the back of the tee too.

Finally I’m lusting after this Per Una necklace:

It’s very similar in style to the chunky heart necklace I’ve just been looking at in this month’s issue of Lucky magazine on Gia Coppola:

Hmmm maybe I better start thinking about keeping some space free in my bags?  The kids won’t need to take much with them will they?
